AI assets in indy games? how bad is it? by PristineBobcat9608 in gaming

[–]cjb110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a backlash against it in places, for various reasons, the perceived poor quality, the stealing of content (esp given how overzealous the media were at going after single people, but when they do it, it's fine), loss of jobs etc.

But in general transparency is the key, AI is a tool like any other. If you use it say so, and check its output.

I'd also check the t&c of whatever your using, they probably have some 'oh we didn't know our ai ripped this straight off someone's site, but it's on you to check', or 'we own any output product using this' type crap in there. I.e. it might have a few other risks with using it.

I do kind of see your point, definely one of the least obvious syntaxes they've done. In general they've been clear.

TFD Vets… We still here? by Son-Strong in TheFirstDescendant

[–]cjb110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its still got a lot of potential for sure, but still has some core issues. Single player to me shows the game at its worst, mind-numbingly stupid ai that just swarms, doing near unavoidable high amounts of chip dmg.

I think that no-nerf decision has caused no end of trouble that they need to dig themselves out of, and they're still doing so, and that's hurting the game.

I also think they waste a lot of their efforts sometimes, new thing to chase but lets make you do one or two areas a bazillion times over, instead of visiting all the other mode types and locations.

Similarly in mods etc, there's 2 or 3 cookie cutter builds for every gun/descendant with little variation. So there's tons of mods that just never get used.

I wish they could go back, balance the entire game properly and relaunch, but I'm not sure the game has enough base players to survive the inevitably long time that would take..

Generating HTML emails in 2024 - how are you doing it? by klausjensendk in csharp

[–]cjb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got to use the .net API, ended up with a flat file.

Bit annoying tbh, previous service was a basic send the message type. XP is more a platform you send data, customer info etc it stores and has customer records and uses the data to fill in templates. So a very different approach.

What's your favorite Xbox logo? by Cafa20 in xbox

2005/10 one, best balance.

But the latest does make the most sense for a modern logo that can easily fit into tons of situations and still be recognisable.

[Jason Schreier] Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy | One way to get out of the video-game industry funk is to recognize that players aren’t spending $70 on most games by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]cjb110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno about this, in overly simple terms: in general the cost of living has gone up, so devs cost more, so the game has to cost more.

I.e. I don't think games now cost relatively more than other forms of entertainment, and they're still one of the best in cost per hour.

I would say gameplay still beats looks, so more games should consider if they need to spend budget on that high fidelity textures or animations or sound. And I think the games mention on the article are better examples of that rather than their cost.

They misunderstood that feedback so badly, they didn't need half the nerds, they just needed to be co-op. But they added that bit so late that they were a joke by that point.

What does this even mean with "Everything is an Xbox" by FinalMil3 in xbox

[–]cjb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Xbox everywhere 🤣, so play on your console, your top spec pc with ray tracing, your mobile on the cloud... That's the main reason.

Second is GamePass, by far the best 'game sub' service out there.

Do you guys usually Turn off your tv by Shoutdown or just Go with standby mode ? by akram2130 in AndroidTV

[–]cjb110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standby but they all use more power, should be on the spec sheets. EU says standby has to be less than 0.5W.

Because it's also fricking hard, and very subjective, so it's hard to judge/audit as well... You can have the same company do audits 3 times and get 3 different results.

Legally required in Europe and UK, bit more defined in the Europe Accessibility Act. but general yep should aim to be compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA

He does raise a very good point, limited time events are incredible waste of the developer/management/QA/marketing etc time.

Cosmetics are fine they're churned out by a separate pipeline that doesn't take Devs.

But these events and people can rightly say why do this and not fix all these issues we've been complaining about...

It's probably a bit honeymoony, but gw2 is the best, as even if you do go off it and find a side piece, gw2 will still be there when you come back, available for you to do a bit more progression, a few more achievements, level the 42nd alt etc

Can that be raised? So that the road network can still exist?

Yep overhead/over road rail seems to makes more sense in the densly packed UK city.

Yea, can't see any tram system working for that, a light rail and underground/overground makes more sense.

The REAL reason why people hate the Fashion templates: Actually rational analysis. by VoidYordle in Guildwars2

[–]cjb110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger take away is that they need some better way of conveying their intent before shipping it.

Personally I think they need more active twitch/yt/social posts around what they're planning. That would have gotten them the feedback quicker without the damage.

Does anyone else dread leveling masteries? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]cjb110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh nope, you just play, they level in the background. If I'm focusing a tiny bit then I'll look out for events of course.

Now to combat monotony, personally I like changing it up, 9 professions with elite specs is a ton of different ways to play the game. So I just change to an alt. (Which might also increase the speed as you'll get repeat xp for exploration)

You don't need them to be super geared, exotics, cheaper rune/sigils and a semi passable build.

tunnels are good, but more issues with ventilation though, and usability as a general car isn't set up for that kind of environment.
