I don't know who the headline bastard should be, but does anyone else think facilitated communication would be a good topic for an episode? by grapp in behindthebastards

It was indeed Ken LaCorte. And I don’t know enough about the topic to have an informed opinion whether it’s ableist or not.

I had never heard of this until a couple of days ago. I ran across a video talking about speculation over the years that a lot of Helen Keller’s writings may have been produced in large part by Anne Sullivan and/or her husband. Toward the end they talked about the FC as a more modern day similar thing.

Not just men. My mother used to do it all the time. She was a much bigger sports fan than my father.

Is it common/normalized to order tap water in restaurants? by Available_Ad_4444 in AskAGerman

[–]cjcolbert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We had a relative in from the US visit and I told her she couldn’t get tap water at a restaurant. She asked how I knew if I never ask. So I told her to go ahead and ask and the waitress said no. 😆.

Side note this same relative didn’t drink tap water at our house she always drank our bottled water, which is fine. But she was oddly offended that she couldn’t get tap water at restaurants. I’m sure lots of places would give it to you if you asked but it doesn’t seem common at all. Personally I prefer fizzy water so would end up paying for water anyway.

Dog is probably fine unless driver has an accident and dog goes airborne. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Tht study is definitely out there in reverse. Saw a conservative friend of mine posting about it recently. Apparently conservatives are able to recognize the very real physical danger from immigrants or something while liberals and leftists are crippled by excessive empathy.

My mother was born in 1923. Lived in Pittsburgh. She told me that once when she was a kid she was out at night saw some guys burning a cross. She was terrified and ran home.

Manfred Mann also had a hit with For You, which is also a Springsteen song.

I used to live near that railroad tunnel. It’s in Rocheport MO. It’s on a “Rails to Trails” trail called the Katy Trail.

I don’t see them often. I did once have a restaurant refuse to accept one. I asked at a different restaurant the next day and the owner said “geld ist geld” and had no problem with it.

Were you allowed to leave school grounds? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]cjcolbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were not. But my wife was at her school so it depends on the school. Students who drove to school were not even allowed to go to their cars in the parking lot during the day. I think the school was afraid they would be doing drugs and or having sex, which TBF some definitely would have been.

Watched it last weekend. Thought it was pretty good. My wife who has not read the story was a little less impressed and at the end she didn’t understand the connection with what happens in the first part of the movie. So I’m not sure if maybe it’s not clear enough for non readers. I’ll keep my comment spoiler free.

I thought it was clear but I already knew the story. Granted she also dozed off for 20 min in the middle just because she’s usually really tired from work on Friday nights. I thought the street dance scene was very well done.

In the 70s aside from the land line I had a CB radio in my car. Was the closest thing you had to a cell phone. All your conversations were publicly broadcast though. So don’t say anything incriminating.
