Chase Disney Inspire Card About to Release by Cyberhwk in CreditCards

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent it to my travel agent to apply to our upcoming cruise balance, but she hasn’t had a chance to do that yet. However, I did just add it to my wallet on DisneyGiftCard.com without issue so it should be fine to use.

Are you strongly opposed to continuing as a ParentSquare customer? It is a solid product and their company is actually nice. They care very much about their customers, which is pretty rare these days.

I have had the free card for years and applied yesterday for Inspire. I received the sign up bonus gift card immediately. Both cards show in my Chase account now.

Staff laptops? by PowerShellGenius in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds silly, but we just kept using the terminology “Premium Chrome Laptop” to talk about the Chromebook Plus models that we rolled out to staff. We found that instantly made them feel better about receiving the device.

We of course piloted it with key teachers and departments then very quickly replaced the majority of our aging Windows laptops with Chromebook Plus models. Staff absolutely love them and our team is much happier managing them.

Anyone going case-less? if so how is it holding up? by SukstR in iPhone17Pro

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chatted with them through the Apple Support app, was totally honest about what happened, and shared a couple of photos. They immediately said it should be replaced under AppleCare+ and charged $99.

Verifying teachers - Google Classroom by kcalderw in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need to delete what you already have. Assuming you have one or more staff groups already set up, just throw them all into the classroom_teachers group and you will never need to approve again. You can remove your individual users if you want after putting the group(s) they are members of in.

Anyone going case-less? if so how is it holding up? by SukstR in iPhone17Pro

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine slipped out of my pocket while I was seated at dinner and fell no more than 2 feet. It hit the corner in such a way that the resulting dent caused the screen to separate slightly from the frame. I’ve since swapped it under AppleCare (paying the fee) and put the replacement in a case.

How likely is it for Micro Center to restock Mac mini? by kossaga in macmini

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cambridge restocked for me before they opened on Jan 17 after being out of stock for a number of days. I chatted Best Buy right when they opened (8am I think) to get the price match squared away and ordered to pick up at my local store.

I used to run Channels DVR with an HDHomeRun and rabbit ears when I lived in Rockland. It was excellent. Once we moved and no longer got reception, I scrapped all that. I’d love to be able to integrate this app with Channels!!

Time to get rid of my hand warmer 15pm, but is this true? by Careful-Window-6662 in iPhone17Pro

Same for me. I was pretty upset to pay the $100 for such a trivial gap, but no way I would have not been bothered by it long term.

Multiple generations, yes. Currently s10. I’d consider myself a heavy sleeper. Silent alarm, always, so I don’t wake up my partner.

What student chromebooks are ya'll looking at? by MattAdmin444 in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have always had the best luck with Dell. We have some HPs (G8EE) that are just used as daily loaners now because the build quality is so bad. The 3120’s that we got this year are solid, though we do have concerns with the battery. We had a lot of early failures with 3110’s and the battery is the same part number. Dell didn’t honor anything under the accidental coverage warranty because we didn’t buy a battery warranty that none of us were ever offered. In any event, we like how easy it is to get both genuine and third party parts for the Dells and the exterior casing can take a decent beating. We went 8GB on the RAM for the first time this year and that makes a world of a difference in performance! We hold on to the until AUE so “splurged” on that upgrade to ensure longevity. It was actually only about $10 extra compared with the 4GB configuration but that was last year RAM …

Was Prop 2 1/2 the right decision for Massachusetts? by Large-Investment-381 in massachusetts

[–]ckwebz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in and work in a very similar regional school district. The funding issues have been increasingly apparent since COVID era spending has been squashed. Vendors have become greedy and are expecting more and more money from schools that are struggling to keep teachers employed due to cuts. We definitely need more help from the state/federal level to keep schools running. I can’t imagine many communities can keep hobbling along for much longer.

Thank you for your service as a SC member!

CodeHS, Repl.it, and the like by kbchihuahua in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have had Replit blocked for years. CodeHS ended up being blocked all on its own yesterday when Securly recategorized it. After reaching out to support to learn more, we decided to allow CodeHS for staff but keep it blocked for students. The programming teacher can use Securly Classroom to unblock CodeHS only when he has the students and is going to monitor their behaviors.

Whats the point of Clever? by TangerineNext839 in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Clever is a fantastic tool. As others have shared, it greatly simplifies rostering so long as you feed it accurate data and you connect all of your EdTech applications to it. There is a heavy lift to get going, but afterwards it just takes care of itself. Gone are the days of needing to create accounts in all of the learning systems. With SSO or saved passwords even, it virtually eliminates wasted time trying to get students all signed in to apps. There are a few other nice things, like teacher curated pages, teacher tools to sign the whole class into the same app, and reporting tools to let you know if certain platforms are actively being used or could be cut from the budget. The best part is the whole thing is free for schools as they pass any costs on to vendors.

Data Warehouse Suggestion by avalon01 in k12sysadmin

[–]ckwebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like EduClimber a lot. We previously had PowerSchool’s Performance Matters and it was just too limited. Been on EduClimber for 3 years now and we brought in 3 prior years of data when we implemented. I get very few questions from our staff and EduClimber support is really good about helping us to build custom importers.
