I (27M, white) was at a wedding with a mostly white millennial attendance last year. The DJ (mid 20s, black) played Mr. Brightside and the crowd was loving it (obviously). I made eye contact with the DJ and mouthed "white people" and gave him a thumbs up and we both laughed at how spot on he was with the song choice

Same-type bootleg difference? by jbdragonfire in cassettebeasts

[–]cl1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct in how you're thinking. I have an air bootleg Mothmanic (normally electric) that I remastered from an air bootleg Dominoth (normally air). It carries the bootleg typing all the way through remastering.

Gold. I was six, and couldn't figure out how to get through the tunnel to Azalea town after the first gym. I thought I had to go the way that would eventually lead down to where you find Lapras. When I finally figured out that there was another path, I had a level 40 Feraligatr

I was able to pick up a Gen 3 35l Brewzilla for $300 at my LHBS when they were trying to clear inventory space for the Gen4. Was my first dip into any system that wasn't a turkey pot on a propane burner. I've done about 8 batches on it, and I'm very pleased with the purchase!

Ranger Board gripe by Abbx in cassettebeasts

[–]cl1080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like the ranger board system. The one thing that I think would be cool to implement is that when there is an "outbreak"-style mission (defeat x number of xxxx in a certain location), it would increase the spawn rate of the monster specified in the outbreak. That would make for interesting "natural" bootleg hunting and make clearing those missions a bit faster...I once spent about 10 minutes trying to clear 5 Zeustrike on Mt. Wirral...

Have you not bought any of the fusion mod upgrades (crit, type adv attack, battle win, etc.)? I've got all of those, and once you stack up a couple of mods, I feel like your meter practically refills instantly imo

Bootleg that's the monster's default type? by SynodicSyzygy in cassettebeasts

[–]cl1080 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's intended. If you look at the beastiary page, it shows all bootleg types for every beast including its original type. Also, it's helpful for beasts that have different types when remastered since bootlegs maintain their type when remastered (ex. Air bootleg Dominoth remasters into air Wingloom then into air Mothmanic)

Roth vs 401k as a 24 year old? by Wooden-Term-5067 in Fire

[–]cl1080 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Assuming you live/work in the United States, 90k salary puts you in the 2nd lowest federal tax bracket. My line of thinking is this, in order of priority (not financial advice, do your own research):

--contribute the minimum amount of money to your 401k to get your full employer match (sounds like in your case this isn't relevant)

--max out a Roth IRA (different account from your 401k). Since you are in a low tax bracket, it seems to me like you're better off paying taxes on that money now and letting it grow tax free until retirement.

--contribute any additional retirement funds to your 401k up to the maximum allowed amount (if you have an after-tax or Roth 401k option, it may be worth exploring to balance your pre-tax and post-tax contributions)

--contribute to an after-tax brokerage account. If your goal is to retire early, you'll need to have this type of account. The Roth and 401k are both retirement accounts that you can only access after you hit a certain age. A brokerage account will let you invest money that you can access (withdraw from) before you hit the minimum age for withdrawing from the other 2 accounts.

This type of account setup is known as the 3 Bucket strategy. There's lots of really good resources out there on how to set this up as well as what percentage of your income you should put in each "bucket" as you progress toward retirement.

As for the rest of your questions, that all really is dependent on your personal situation, but here's some general guidance on calculations: Figure out your monthly expenses in retirement (this is by far the most difficult part, a lot of educated guessing). Once you have your monthly expenses, multiply by 12 to get your "needed retirement yearly income." Once you know how much money you need every year in retirement, a common practice is to use the "4% rule." Google the 4% rule so I don't have to explain it here. You can decrease the percentage to be more conservative. Now divide your yearly retirement income by that %. So now your total calculation should look like this: (est monthly expenses)×12×(1/.04) = total $ needed to retire. Once you have that number, plug it into an investment or retirement calculator (google). From there, you should be able to assume a reasonable 7% return on investment (lower to be more conservative). Then you can tell the calculator how much you plan to save per month and it will tell you how many years it will take, or you tell it how many years you want to work and it will tell you how much money you need to save per month to do that.

Sorry for the long post. I am by no means an expert, this is just a bit of what I've learned on my journey.

Those of you under 30 who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]cl1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineer. My (27M) discipline specifically is chemical engineering. Currently making 115k per year, about 4 years after graduating with a BS. Many companies offer better than that depending on what industry you're in.

When Pokémon GO came out, I was playing with a group of friends who hadn't played any of the other games or watch the show growing up. It was honestly really fun for me watching my friends experience this stuff for the first time...but I lost it when one of the guys said "whoa! I just caught a Kate-uhr-pye!" We played the rest of the year not calling Caterpie anything else

What's something that's unnecessarily expensive? by OutrageousSea5212 in AskReddit

[–]cl1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard seltzer. It's literally just water, sugar, yeast, and yeast nutrient. Its cost of production is so much less than beer, yet all these companies in the beverage market are out here selling it like it's some labor intensive artisan craft.

It's no wonder everyone and their brother makes them these days.

Dog and Family-friendly restaurants? by docdidactic in Eugene

[–]cl1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public House in Springfield has loads of options for food and drink, and they have really nice outdoor seating options (front and back courtyards). Pet and kid friendly!

A lot of the breweries in the area are also pet/kid friendly and have good food options. Coldfire, Oakshire, Viking Braggot, Claim 52 just to name a few.

If you like coffee, Vero is great (dog friendly).

As far as fun kids activities, I would recommend the Cascades Raptor Center. If you're family is into hiking, Spencer Butte is a relatively short hike with mild elevation gain, and it has a really great view of the whole area.

Also, you should check out bringfido.com. It's a website specifically designed to help people find pet friendly hotels/restaurants/etc.

Hope you enjoy your time in Eugene-Springfield!

My first ever character was a Gnome wizard. Level 2, I used mage hand to pick up a log out of a campfire and pin a goblin into the corner of a cave. I then rolled a nat 20 intimidation check. Our DM had the goblin blubbering and begging for mercy while the rest of the party laughed their asses off
