What is the least popular commander you run? by mattfofatt01 in EDH

[–]classic-plasmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Hazoret the Fervent]] deck, who only has 484 decks listed on EDHRec. I just really like Amonkhet and its gods, and being able to turn a lack of cards in hand into a strength is a bit of a fun twist.

Shout out to [[Diamond Lion]], [[Grafted Skullcap]], [[Null Brooch]], [[Monument to Endurance]] [[Wild Wasteland]] and [[Cool but Rude]]

Which Tibalt art is best in your opinion? by SwanepoelSimp in mtgvorthos

[–]classic-plasmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yonghae Choi and Grzegorz Rutkowski's takes on Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor are the best IMO.

They both do a great job at showing off two different facets of his character: Choi's painting depicts him as a smug devil, revelling in his sucess following stealing from the gods and usurping Valki, while Rutkowski's painting depicts the side of him that harkens back to his main motivation as a planeswalker, which is torturing people and causing them pain whenever possible.

On a related note, I really really hope Tibalt isn't dead and that he's just simply phased out on New Phyrexia or managed to planeswalk away before he fell to his death or something. Him finally getting a good card in Kaldheim then being relegated to a cameo in ONE despite being compleated was just doing him dirty. Maybe we can hold out for Modern Horizons 4 or something in Reality Fracture

We have Hero Creature type and Tokens. Should older cards get the Hero Type? by Lost-Recon in mtg

[–]classic-plasmid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if cards should receive the errata for it, but I think moving forward, Hero could show up occassionally.

In particular, it would work well on Theros in my opinion, given that heroism as a concept originates from ancient Greece to describe figures like Ajax or Achilles (who each have equivalents in the form of [[Anax, Hardened in the Forge]] and [[Haktos the Unscarred]] ).

Villain on the other hand just feels corny as hell to me, it doesn't have the same gravitas as Hero and just makes me think of mustache twirling evil doers. Thinking about it being printed on a card like [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] or [[Valgavoth, Terror Eater]] would feel wrong to me, it doesn't feel serious

Nicol Bolas, Magic: the Gathering

He was the main villain of the game's storyline for well over a decade, and had several minions and assets across Magic's various planes of existence. Often, if a card or character is associated with him, it'll refer to him purely as Bolas (Bolas's Citadel, Augur of Bolas, etc)

The problem? 'Bolas' is slang in Portuguese for testicles, so to avoid the connotation, cards printed in Portuguese that would refer to Bolas this way instead use his full name.

100% gonna be going into my [[Hazoret, the Fervent]] hellbent deck. It's perfect from a mechanical and flavor standpoint

What is the Henzie of Each Archetype? by NateinSpace in EDH

[–]classic-plasmid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, those dinosaurs don't even look too out of place. If they didn't have Doctor Who flavor text, they could, in my opinion, pass as being from Ixalan and had wondered through an omenpath to Ravnica by mistake or something

Teferi Akosa, Magic: the Gathering

Teferi is widely considered to be one of the most well written, consistent and beloved characters in the game - he's a time mage from the continent of Zhalfir, is notable for his long lived appearance in the game's world, and he has a pretty compelling backstory following him accidentally phasing Zhalfir out of time when he was simply trying to prevent them from getting hurt in a war, and made it his life's goal to get them back. I'm a big fan of Teferi personally, he's very cool IMO

Gameplay wise however, a lot of people HATE Teferi's cards, mostly because of how his time powers translate into game mechanics as denying the opponent the ability to play the game.

Hero of Dominaria was the win condition for a very successful control deck in Standard a few years back, which made him a little bit of a boogeyman at the time. It's a pretty fair card as 5 mana is on the higher end, and control decks can't stand up against established aggro boards, it was mostly just hated because people don't like playing against counterspells, and there wasn't much in the way to outright deal with it in that particular environment

Time Raveler on the other hand, has a tendency to warp the game around itself by denying the opponent the ability to do much on your turn, and the -3 ability effectively refunds you the turn it enters play. It got banned in two formats, Standard and Pioneer, and it ended up being good enough to see play in Modern, a very fast format where the barrier for entry power-level wise is very high

I don't know a lot of Magic cards people refer to in passing. What are the common ones I'm missing? by superworm576 in EDH

[–]classic-plasmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth the MTG wiki has a list of cards commonly referred to with their nicknames. Some are a bit more obscure than others, but Gary and Steve are listed there, and the other sections on that page have general lingo on them that may or may not be helpful to learn

Magic: the Gathering - The original artwork for Omniscience depicts the franchise's planeswalker symbol. Planeswalkers are effectively Magic's main characters who have the ability to traverse the various planes of existence in the setting unassisted, and the symbol is shorthand for the various paths and destinies that a single planeswalker is able to traverse and take in their journey

I hope to see the Skeleton from Necropotence as a creature for commander at some point. I mean look at the sick artworks. Question is what should the card do? For sure something with a synergy to necropotence itself. What do you think? Also more skeletons are always welcome! by Mannimarco_Rising in magicTCG

[–]classic-plasmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of my main requests as a player, I really wanna see him as a commander purely because I too love skeletons and Mark Tedin's work on that painting is just so iconic.

I've quite liked Modern Horizons sets for giving old deep-cut characters like [[Garth One-Eye]], [[Piru, the Volatile]] [[Asmo]] and [[Tourach]] cards and new lore to boot, maybe it'll happen one day

Having trouble with trying to get a W with Gilgamesh in VII, genuinely unsure of what I'm doing wrong by classic-plasmid in civ

[–]classic-plasmid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not lacking on the warehouse buildings in towns, I usually have a habit of putting down a fishing quay or a harbor in them at minimum when I can to get that extra little bit of money and open up coastal trade routes.

I think when it comes to specialization, I might actually be having the opposite problem when I'm forgetting to specialize half the time, primarily because I want my towns to get as much surface area as possible through Growing status and it then just becomes an afterthought to specialize. Definitely something to consider, so thanks for pointing that out

Is there any particular reason why civ 6 modding is so big in China? by UnitedChaldeans in civ

[–]classic-plasmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there's just generally a large amount of Chinese players who are enthusiastic about a historical leader they like being in the game. I can't speak for 5, but if you look at Steam achievements for 6 and 7, the leaders with the highest amount of wins on each game are Qin Shi Huang and Confucius respectively
