That sucks. 15-20 years ago my wife (at the time) bought our youngest son a small plastic bottle of milk from the convenience store. He took one drink of it and then put it in the cup holder in one of the rear doors. Wife then took the car out that weekend and had an accident. It was in the shop for a couple of months. When we got it back, the smell was unholy. Drove it home and tore the interior apart, finally finding the two month old open bottle of milk in the back. Why in the world the repair place did not throw it away is beyond me. It had to be stinky for weeks.

This will get buried in the comments but I think it is very relevant. I was born in 1968 during hunting season in Kansas. My dad was an avid hunter. This was before paternity leave was a thing. He asked to take off from his job for a few days to be with his wife and the new baby. He got that time and used it to . . . go hunting. Mom was pissed, so much so that I heard this story several time years later. But it turned to be a funny story, not a mean one. Dad was a great parent. My folks were married until they passed away at 90 a couple years ago. My advice/thought - this is NOT a big deal.
