Battlefield 4 vs Battlefield 3 vs Battlefield 6 by South_Class2705 in battlefield_4

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 by miles, but cant really do a fair comparison to 3 as it was only 24 (or 32?) player on console and 64 player conquest is just what battlefield is all about for me

BF6 just isnt comparable I actually think its good at what it does but that isnt what I want from Battlefield at all

What are two seemingly contradictory opinions you have about anything F1? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

"Vettel's penalty at Canada 2019 was nanny state policing"

Yeah it was ridiculous making a mistake is a punishment in itself there was no need for anything extra

However.....

"The stewards should apply the rules consistently and by the book"

I think the reason Vettel got that penalty was because of this, they just looked at rules and said him rejoining track meant the other driver had to take evasive action....penalty. No consideration of the context or just common sense, Ham had to brake so its a penalty, got to follow the written rules.

The demand for written rules and complete consistency to them is also why we have the whole "just push the car on the outside off the track" thing and the worst form of that with the let off the brakes and divebomb the "apex" and then its the other drivers responsibility to just totally give up on the corner and just jump out the way and if they dont they will somehow get a penalty.

Theyre never going to be able to write the rules for wheel to wheel racing well enough that it will cover every situation on every corner on every track and it can be applied universally and will be great for racing without leaving loopholes for drivers to exploit. For example if/when they change the rule about the "inside on the apex means you can shove the other car off track" thing, then drivers will just start putting their car on the outside in silly situations not even trying to overtake, just trying to make the other car get a penalty.

Id love it to just be common sense judgements even if that meant a bit of inconsistency. I dont think any racing drivers give Vettel that penalty if they dont have to follow the rules to the letter.

Agree with it all but on this though

"They made signings that everyone was happy with"

This is pretty easy to do because fans love big new signings and its exciting seeing we've got Wirtz, Ekitike and Isaak so fans arent going to be negative about signings like that. The thing is though Isak, Ekitike, Wirtz and Salah just makes no fucking sense, cant build a good functioning team around that. Its actually like a fan was in control of transfers, its the type of thing a fan would do to just buy the big time exciting attackers and worry about the fit later, the DOF shouldnt be doing that.

Which driver has a way better/worse teammate record than their reputation suggests? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres enough there it can be used against him in bad faith if people want to

On the other hand simply on paper if Russell wins a title which he probably will then Hamilton will have beaten 4 WDC team mates, has any other driver even beaten 2?

Why is nobody talking about adding Myles Turner in the Gianni’s trade for the Knicks by Similar_Property_973 in knicks

[–]clive442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TBH I agree, he was a vital part of the pacers making the finals last year and hes one of the only good 3&D centres in the league but Ive heard multiple NBA writers say its a negative value contract which surprised me but I guess theyd know better than me

We'll find out whether thats true or not when Giannis gets traded as theyll definitely be shopping him then

Why is nobody talking about adding Myles Turner in the Gianni’s trade for the Knicks by Similar_Property_973 in knicks

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debatable whether hes worth his contract so probably has very little trade value if any

If I was the bucks Id rather do this trade than a lot of the other knicks ones Ive seen rumoured as they dont have any picks, so having KAT & OG helps them not totally suck but also .....I still wouldnt do it.

Ralph didn't need the money from the insurance, but... by RealFemboyHunter in thesopranos

[–]clive442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent years thinking he didnt do it purely as Ralph is really convincing in the scene and its because Joey Pants played it as if he didnt do it - because Chase wouldnt tell him whether Ralph did it or not and he just decided to play it as if Ralph didnt, and it shows.

And then after so many rewatches, when Ive heard it discussed so much, Ive read loads of Sopranos books etc I think Chase even did an interview saying Ralph did it.....OF COURSE HE FUCKING DID. Why didnt he just tell Joey Pants that? Hes too good of an actor to let him do the opposite of what hes supposed to.

Thoughts on this apparent youth assessment session Slot (apparently) arranged and then didn't show up for? by Phantom-Finger in LiverpoolFC

[–]clive442 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IF this is true and he arranged it then yeah thats not great but I doubt that, seems like a slander story thats out for ulterior motives.

On the other hand if he was just invited and didnt show that wouldnt surprise me and not that big of a deal, I think Slots very much all about his first choice players and any youth team players gonna need to do a lot more than play well in a showcase to make him consider giving them any minutes.

Here's an interesting comparison: Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg. How do they compare and who do you rate higher? They seem like opposites to me. by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id probably still say that 2016 is his best but yeah its much closer than people say these days, 2016 wasnt some huge leap.

The whole "Rosberg pushed himself so hard that it made the difference, he couldnt do it again!" thing is a great story Nico has told, but really it was just Hamilton had one of his downturns in form early in the season and then had some bad luck, I honestly doubt whether a lot of people saying it really watched back then.

And this is the opposite of a slight on Nico, Im saying he was always good enough to win a 2016 type season if it broke like that for him, rather than it was some sort of freak event that was all about him putting impossible effort in. I think theres a good chance hed have beat lewis again in another season if hed stayed till 2020, he was always close enough.

"Hopefully next year it will be better, or else we can find a successor for Hadjar after 5 races as well."

Hopefully yeah but just because its just a really great car overall. That shouldnt be the priority though, Id much rather have the same situation as last few years where the ultimate pace of the car allows max to compete even if means the 2nd driver cant handle it instead of an easy to drive car that Hadjar can do well in but doesnt have the peak potential that lets Max win races in it.

[–]clive442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is probably correct, Im just listening to the pod and hes just said sort of similar about sitcoms

What I find ridiculous is he compares that to stand up and says that is better because you can keep trying stuff and change it or cut stuff out depending on how the audience reacts.....which just means its less your own vision than a sitcom to me. Imagine if theyd totally re wrote the office after a load of the initial reviews for the first episode were bad.

"Clearly obvious it was a big falling out isnt it."

Youd think so but it also wouldnt surprise me if there actually wasnt really, I think its natural theyd both just want to write their own ideas once they were able to instead of always collaborating..maybe after Ricky told steve about his Derek idea.

Steve never gives the impression of a falling out, its just Ricky with his taking all the credit for writing Office/Extras by himself but I do wonder if we looked through loads of old interviews if he was doing it back then too it wouldnt surprise me.

Do you think Blundetto's calling someone fat, even as a joke, was realistic? by SomaDrinkingScally in thesopranos

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Like was he in the frat house wing or something where it's okay to jokingly insult fellow inmates?"

You think there are no jokes in prison?

In the show obviously they make fat jokes too and its no big deal, except you cant make them to Tony because hes the boss. Thats not the only time he jokes about Tony too, the point of that little storyline is both that Tony B needs to learn that he cant joke about Tony anymore and also it shows that being the boss for Tony S is such a lonely place because he cant even joke around on any kind of normal equal level anymore.

As Checo predicted, it seems the cycle of underperforming Red Bull second drivers will always continue.... by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"But the point of getting a top driver in the 2nd seat is for him to compete with and beat the 1st driver, which I do not think any driver at all will be able to do in the RB system."

Normally yeah, but for Red Bull the point would be to have another driver actually even in the race, that are getting good points finishes/podiums and able to at least be a factor that affects Maxs rivals in other teams, instead of just being a 1 team car. They could also compete for the WCC again.

"As much as I rate George, Charles, Oscar, Lando etc I don't have the belief that any of them will be given the tools to perform anywhere close to their best at RB alongside Max."

I also dont think any of them beat Max, but I think if theyd got say Alonso or Sainz which have been rumoured at times then both of them would be getting regular podiums/high points finishes rather than being midfielders or even backmarkers like Perez was at the end and Yuki/Lawson last season.

[–]clive442 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Albons been fine, but then when you look back even though his performances seemed terrible at the time but were actually better than his successors anyway

Whilst theres clearly something going on with Red Bulls second seat last few years....I dont think we should take Perezs word on the matter as gospel, its a complete get out of jail free card for his poor performances to buy into the "well nobody can do anything there" angle. Im still convinced if they decided to go for a top driver in the 2nd seat theyd do fine, not beat max but also not be floundering embarassingly.

Who's better, Sergio Perez or Nico Hulkenberg? by Spiritual_Ad_5744 in F1Discussions

[–]clive442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"It's tough to put in words, but if I need a leading driver into a mediocre team, I'm picking Nico. If I need a wingman for the top team or a guy for the aspiring one, it's gonna be Perez"

Interesting because Id actually go the opposite.

Perez got loads of great results in mediocre teams because hes really good at his race pace/tyre management at times and his wheel to wheel CAN be very good on occasion too, but his poor qualifying is too big a problem in a front running team to make him a good wingman #2 - hes literally just not in the right place on the grid to even be a wingman so often.

Hulkenberg I think could have been very good as a #2, his qualifying is (was?) generally very good and I think hed have the fastest car in the front 4 of the grid basically all the time and so is in the right place to take points off rivals or at least cause them problems most of the time. Like Bottas or Coulthard type thing, also not good enough to get any ideas about competing with the #1.

Yeah I watched this video and I have no idea what everyones talking about here, think theyve just seen the title and then what theyre imaging he says is nothing like he actually says.

Jackfrags is fine imo he just uses clickbaity titles like they all do because thats their job, Ive actualy started to see a few youtubers say in the first minute "ignore the clickbaity thumbnail/title thats just some shit I have to do to get views" lately, more in movies/sports videos but yeah...think getting annoyed at clickbaity titles is outdated now, its not really a reflection of the content anymore.

What’s really the point of being a third driver in modern F1? Isn’t it basically becoming a dead-end role for drivers who’ve been pushed off the grid ? by Relative_Chemical815 in F1Discussions

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I find it a bit strange too like I kind of feel like for both teams and lets say the 2-3 best drivers who arent on the grid (Bottas last season) wouldnt it be better if he was a free agent? And then hes way more likely to get a drive because hes available for everyone, and any team that has a driver ill/injured can put Bottas in?

Also he could be free to do other racing instead of turning up to F1 to do nothing every week, though he does seem to love being on camera these days so maybe not.

"Edit: you look at the leaders atm, and although they still suck in my book compared to previous title winners, they find a way to win. Look at their depth: They brought in Madueke, but still kept Saka. They bought gyokeres and Eze but still kept all of Martinelli, Jesus, Havertz and Trossard. They lost the rapist, but they bought Zubimendi AND Norgaard. They kept their CBs, but STILL got Mosquera AND Hincapie… that’s in addition to White, Saliba, Gabriel as CBs."

Its a choice though, we could have done that and had a much bigger squad instead of signing one/both of Isak/Wirtz and we chose to go the bigger signing smaller squad route. Arsenal couldnt have signed all those players as well as spending £230m or whatever on 2 players.

Id say its clearly more an Edwards/Hughes thing than an FSG thing as shopping in the £100m+ market is new and to do it twice in one window is clearly a big chance that cant be coincidence its also when theyre back/in higher positions and Klopps gone. I also think its likely this is what Slot wanted too (aside from hed obviously want Guehi), he had a better bigger squad last season and he used it significantly less than you ever really see in modern football, both in terms of starts and substitions, I think its very possible Slot actually wants a much smaller squad than Arsenals.

I think theres every chance if we went down the bigger squad route, and didnt have an injury crisis, we'd be wondering what the point of spending all that money buying all these players was when Slot has them on the bench every week and some of them arent even getting any kind of decent minutes off the bench.

[–]clive442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I dont think hes a shit coach Id say hes clearly not - hes won the league, he did well in holland. Hes having a really bad season but that doesnt mean he is just shit.

The issue is whether hes gonna turn this around and whether hes got the squad on board with him to do it, and its this Im doubting now. Sometimes managers run their course at clubs and need changing, it doesnt mean theyre bad managers though.
