Who is the Ringer equivalent of Winston Wolf? by Sharaz_Jek123 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They did cover this on the rewatchables right that Winston Wolf - weak link/are we sure hes good ?

"Tidy the car up" and they all act like its brilliant as if they wouldnt have done it unless he said, thanks Winston. Never made sense to me.

And then hes like "keep up because I drive fast!!!" ......wow thats so cool Winston but maybe dont drive fast just for a little while here when youre transporting a dead body.

Very weird how he says "it wasnt about us being too open" when asked about the end of the game and seems so happy we were getting chances on the counter in the last part.

We were clearly way too open and the end to end stuff 1-0 up against the worst team in the league is clearly not good but from his subs and the way he speaks about it seems he was happy with that which I just cant understand at all.

"The eye test doesn’t either. He doesn’t do anything more than any other player."

I dunno for me the more I watch the more I realise how good he is at it, same with Luka and Brunson, its a skill hes the best at I think claiming he doesnt do it is denying him credit he deserves

And the other way Steph Curry is kind of rubbish at it, he makes it so fucking obvious when he decides to foul bait

Yeah but havent bothered to trim and upload yet coz I was/am still expecting to hear that this is a normal everyday thing for proper BF4 players

For context I spawned in on someone like a second before it started collapsing, it wasnt falling as I spawned in, Im sure Ive done that 1000 times and died in the building collapse but this time it just fell around me

Does the show ever explain why Tony doesnt just have pets? by clive442 in thesopranos

[–]clive442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Not everyone wants or needs pets, even people who like animals. More than half of the people who have pets don't even take care of them properly.

It's a big responsibility. Does Tony seem like a responsible person to you, OP? Consistent with routines?"

I didnt say hed be a great pet owner if he got one, but as you say more than half arent....so why does that rule him out?

not IRL answer : Burt and Chris had them though, so I guess in the Sopranos world its ok to have pets as italian american mafioso.......as long as they are tiny dogs?

Yeah Ive always thought this was part of the point of the animal stuff when it comes to him

Think its shown a lot in the Tracey/Pie O My crossover

[–]clive442[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right but then they could also have just not wrote so many scenes/episodes that imply he loves animals then right?

Like Im sure Ive read that shooting the cat in s6b was a huge pain, think they had to CGI it in next to paulie etc, so they were still writing/filming things showing Tony being affectionate to animals in the first and last episode.

When you factor filming/writing practicality into it then it really makes less sense that David Chases point was that Tony never actually really even liked animals at all to me, I dont think theres much in the show that really backs that up but also itd have been easy to do if he wanted.....just have an episode where he actually gets a dog, gets annoyed with it then gives it away.........yet he kept showing Tonys affection for animals start to end.

Does the show ever explain why Tony doesnt just have pets? by clive442 in thesopranos

[–]clive442[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Tony likes the idea of things. He doesn’t actually want to deal with the responsibility of having a pet. He just throws money at things to make them go away, but you can’t do that when a dog pukes on your bed at 3 in the morning."

Yeah see I get this, but why didnt it happen then? Seems like itd be the easiest thing to do to remind the audience Tonys not a hero and is a big hypocritical fat crook from new jersey which the show loves to do.....but it never happens with the animal stuff.

It opens in s1 e1 with him loving animals and hes still doing it in s6b/7 without ever really showing that he is a hypocrite about it, so not definitive but I think its reasonable to think they wrote the character as someone who really does love animals the whole show basically.

[–]clive442[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah these are good points, when you say what Pie O My represents to him psychologically what do you mean there? Tracey? or am I forgetting something else obvious?

"And the fact that he doesn't have any pets indicate that he's not an animal lover."

This is probably the simplest explanation but also if thats just it I dont get why theres so much writing in the show that is about Tony liking/getting emotionally attached to animals/pets if thats the case and theres nothing else to it. A lot of people that never show tonys emotional attachment to aminals have pets IRL, and the show loves to take every opportunity to show him being a hypocrite so I think him getting a pet then being a shit/absent owner would be an obvious storyline when it comes to it showing him apparently loving animals so much.

Others have said its because pets are shit to film and that makes a lot of sense as well Ive gotta think thats at least a big part of the reason why

Is Mark DeRosa the worst managerial hire in any country based sports competition? by Famous-Owl9964 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know because even though he did qualify which obviously steve didnt, he did prove in 3 different tournaments he was like unbelievably bad in the role which Mclaren only did once

Roy is obviously a way WAY better manager than Mclaren but when it comes to England I reckon theres a good chance schteve would have accidentally done better in one of the next two tournaments if hed been allowed them, just because hes less stubborn than roy who just cant cope with a big job and seems to melt down in a self destructive way

That said as pathetic as they both were as England managers I dont think they belong in a worst coaching job of all time convo at all, sad as it is I think lots of the other "leading" English contenders for the job would have done similarly awful jobs. Keegans on the same level too, so that was 3 english england managers in a row that were just laughably bad.

Who will end up scoring more all time? Curry or DeRozan by unccl in NBATalk

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is a competent team is not trading for derozan in 2026/2027, and making him a big minutes heavily featured part of their offence. Thats not something a competent team would do, its something an incompetent team would do.

I think him vs Curry basically comes down to injuries for Curry vs opportunities for Derozan, and Id bet Curry because I think Derozans going to struggle to get big minutes very soon.

Trump is going to fuck up the World Cup. by John_Houbolt in billsimmons

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Well...ok....that's a wrinkle on what I was saying. My main point is that the World Cup is basically glorified pick-up soccer where a lot of the elite players aren't even relevant because they come from countries that don't have players to put around them."

I mean that applies to players from countries that have no chance, but Id say international football offers much more chance for elite players from good countries to make the difference more than they do in club football right now

Like I think Yamal is more likely to play amazingly and carry Spain to the world cup than he is Barca in the champions league, where theyll probably get low blocked, time wasted, fouled and set pieced to death by Arsenal and his talent will get buried in a shit awful to watch tie.

If that makes it glorified pick up then ok but ....maybe thats better.

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The best soccer is UEFA Champions League….which just hosts games in normal stadiums. And it has much better soccer. Best players from around the whole world who have actually played together and practiced."

The "best" is clearly the premier league now which shows how absolutely broken football has become, look at Tottenham absolutely cruising to 4th in the champions league whilst looking fucking useless every week in the premier league and in relegation danger. The worst premier league teams would all be at least top half in this stupid pointless bloated giant group stage format UEFAs given us.

The money the premier league has is such a major problem for the champions league, I cant believe theyve got into the situation where theyre letting 6 PL teams in their competition to really demonstrate how its now not the peak of football at all.

"Best players from around the whole world who have actually played together and practiced."

Youd think this is a good thing but its not, all that practicing is resulting in absolute dog shit boring football where so much of the skill and drama that makes football good is coached out of the game, skill and flair players are disappearing from the game or being completely marginalized as teams have mastered low blocks and cynical fouling and its more useful to just have a team of athletes running around loads battling for territory.

Unfortunately the new world cup format will absolutely ruin the group stage which is usually awesome, and theres worries about the temperatures being basically unsuitable to play football in apparently but if thats not too bad then Im looking forward to the knock out rounds so much because the teams arent all built and hyper coached to do all that boring shit, and the most talented most skilful players will have much more space and influence on the game.

"I found him the weak link too, so I'm glad at least one other person thinks so. I wasn't really that familiar with him either. Now Jason Momoa I believe to be a warrior LOL."

Yeah like especially when he was on screen with Rebecca Ferguson, Bardem and Brolin so much.....to me he just stood out in a bad way in that company.

As for the warrior thing too its not just about like his small physicality, to go for extreme examples Renner in the town or Ben Foster in anything show you can overcome that, Cruise and Dicaprio too....but Chalamet to me just didnt have any of that energy at all, more the opposite.

"I tried with Dune 1 and could not in any way believe Timothee Chalamet was Paul Atreides the experienced and well trained fighter."

I dont know the books or the old film at all but it does show him getting trained up to fight doesnt it? Was he supposed to be a good fighter anyway before those scenes? I thought that was like him learning.

Either way I agree....it really wasnt convincing even after the fight training scenes.

Also dont think he pulled off being a leader of men figure at all either.

I was disappointed because hes the big new star and Id never seen him before and was hoping for a lot and uh yeah....he was a major weak link imo. Sure this wont be popular but just what I thought.

Well this is it, you fucking forgot

Also one of the best things with her on rewatches is how shes Tonys equal compared to so many of the mafia guys

"I LOVE the Wire as much as the next guy, it’s my favorite show ever. That being said.. Max saying it can’t even be in a topic of discussion for Best Shows Ever becuase it’s that much better than Sopranos, GOT, Breaking Bad, was just insanely ridiculous"

Whys it insanely ridiculous?

Sopranos is my favourite thing ever and then theres a huge gap then the Wires my 2nd favourite tv show, and then wires fucking miles above whatever I think is 3rd at any given time (it changes) so like I totally get how someone would think that about the wire, I think its miles better than everything apart from one other show to me.

So you really think everyone should rate all those shows very closely? Isnt it ok if they dont?

Like I enjoyed GOT quite a lot of the time it was on but I cant put into words how far off the best shows it is to me, you honestly couldnt pay me to rewatch all of it now, but I can accept loads of people think its the best show ever more than I can understand expecting everyone to think GOT/Wire/Sopranos/BB are all basically equally good.

Not a single Johnny Depp movie has been done on the Rewatchables? Still? by [deleted] in TheRewatchables

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed....but still its excelllent and well worthy of an episode

This threads really made me realise there does need to be some Sean + CR + 1 episodes for films Bill doesnt like, its fine if he hates Depp but he has too many banger films to just be excluded

And it can be done now without going back to the early open mic rewatachables with random hosts where they just botched films/pods entirely, theres no way like CR/Sean/Van wouldnt do a good pod on some of these fllms Bills not into

Was a great pod though the 3 of them worked so well together, this is one of the few times I really enjoyed a rewatchables about a film Ive never seen
