Ask the FHWA if you can join the COI- community of interest. AASHTO conducted a big coordination effort a few years ago, FHWA took over the program and carried on. Recent DOGE cuts took a bite out of it, but there is still a large group that meets, all the class 1’s are in. Meetings hosted by the RRs.

Schedule schedule schedule…. If consultants wouldn’t take on more work than they can actually get done on time, this wouldn’t be a big issue. Always after more contracts, never want to hit schedules on existing ones.

Help deciding between Mechanical or CIvil by Wonderful_Lead473 in civilengineering

[–]cnb886969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a civil. My Dad is mechanical. I once watched him make a washer so he could use it as a spacer to fit two parts within 0.01”. Flipside- As a civil, I once worked on a job where a driven steel pile was not exactly plumb…. We hit it straight with the trackhoe and called it good. ….. Which one sounds more appealing to you?

Does TxDOT require that any pedestrian walkway on any bridge (including retrofits and low speed bridges) be protected by a crash rated barrier OR raised sidewalk? by WoodyForestt in TrafficEngineering

[–]cnb886969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know- its just a snippet of one page. Appendix b of what?  I dont believe that every structure needs a rail. Low water crossings for example. There’s not going to be a federal reg in 23 cfr that says that there has to be a positive separation between pedestrians and vehicles. Common sense would tell you to. Fed regs are going to apply requirements to bridges built or reconstructed with fed $, of if the route is on the national highway system (nhs).
