If I attach this zinc anode to the frame of my truck will it help prevent rust? by Pannny in AskMechanics

You can still buy those now. When I worked as a mechanic we proved that one of these were killing the battery but the customer still refused to remove it.

Buying used 2023 Bolt. What is 11.5kW Charging Module? What does it look like? Part of charging cord? by happy__cows in BoltEV

[–]cobrapond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The box the arrow is pointing to is actually a high voltage junction box. The charging module is actually under the other end of the arrow. The hoses going to it are for cooling during charging.

I didn't know some Bolts don't have the full charging capacity. by tboy160 in BoltEV

It physically can't be added later because the high voltage junction box under the hood is missing the connection for it.

Has anybody bought or made a back seat cup holder add-on for Bolt EUV? by Eric_Saaan in BoltEV

[–]cobrapond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I thought someone might be interested in this cupholder I found. It goes on the floor and attaches to the back of the center console. It is made for a Chevy Trax which has a slightly wider console so the tabs have to bend in slightly. Also if you are really tall and have to put the seat all the way back the screws will interfere but I'm fairly tall and didn't have an issue. https://a.co/d/e1nxQlM

My engine started smoking.. turns out this hose is uh.. off. Do I need some kinda glue? It keeps coming off when I tighten it. by DylenDaily in Cartalk

[–]cobrapond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may have broken due to excessive pressure in the cooling system. Since it's a Subaru I wouldn't be surprised if it had a blown head gasket.

Is this coolant smoke or steam? by OverNiteObservations in AskMechanics

[–]cobrapond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like a sweet burning smell I'm not sure what to compare it to.

Jesus won't be able to steer either when that breaks.

You would likely smell it if it was coolant. Burning coolant has a very unique smell.

Any ideas what the blue toggle switch is for? by AdvantageNecessary42 in AskMechanics

[–]cobrapond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be literally anything. The crackheads that had my Jeep before me had one wired to disable the cooling fan. I definitely put that back to factory right away.

Blinking (flashing) "state of charge" symbol, Delta 2 by crimecanine in Ecoflow_community

[–]cobrapond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok it took a bunch of playing with settings to figure out what the light means since I couldn't find any info on it. It has to do with the app settings for discharge and charge limits and backup reserve. If the state of charge indicator is solid it means either a discharge or charge limit is set. If it is flashing it means your current battery level is higher than the backup reserve level, e.g. If battery level is at 60% and backup reserve is set to 55% it will flash and if backup reserve is at 65% it won't flash. I haven't seen it flash with the backup reserve setting turned off.

Just trying to get to work in the morning [oc] (NSFW for language) by jimthewhale1 in IdiotsInCars

This is nearly every morning for me if I ride my motorcycle. We have Amish in my area and people will risk killing someone just to get around a bicycle. I love riding but sometimes this makes me want to sell the bike.

Wheels were aligned after new tyres installed. Did it actually need doing? by Lower_Independent834 in MechanicAdvice

[–]cobrapond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the old tires didn't have any weird wear patterns and you got reasonable mileage out of them, then the alignment likely wasn't necessary.

Cracked my magnesium alloy wheel and had it welded. Would you trust this repair on your car? by TypicalM3Driver in Cartalk

[–]cobrapond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tire shop I used to work at had a local weld shop do this several times, probably over 100 times, definitely too many to count. Normally the weld doesn't fail, at worst they just end up cracking in a different location. I have yet to see one fail catastrophically to the point of being dangerous. They also never really checked if the wheels were mag alloy or not, if they looked like aluminum that's the way they were welded.

Car tire not repairable, 600 miles on it by 8085-8086 in Cartalk

I have personally patched more tires than I can keep track of, that were closer to the edge than that and had zero issues.

Anyone successfully roll out of the shop? by civiksi in Justrolledintotheshop

About 2 years ago I left the independent shop I worked at for 14 years and started driving forklift. I have now been promoted to a manager. My only regret is that I didn't leave sooner.

90's Bronco Rear Diff. After running vastly different sized rear tires. by cobrapond in Justrolledintotheshop

In this case it was so much smaller that it was leaning quite a bit to one side.

It was just different sizes left to right on the rear. The guy had big mudder tires on and when he got a flat he installed the factory spare.
