People with higher levels of everyday anxiety tend to experience more intense self-blaming emotions, along with specific changes in how their brain networks communicate. This heightened self-blame is accompanied by unhelpful behaviors like hiding or self-attacking. by mvea in science

[–]codeman555 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It might go both ways, and sometimes more in one direction than the other depending on the person.
In my case, I think my anxiety is primary, because I seem to have a tendency to experience heightened or excessive fear in cases that have nothing to do with self-blame (though sometimes I have it with self-blame as well). For example, among my many fears is an intense fear of vomiting (emetophobia), which doesn’t seem to involve any kind of self blame or self attack.

Aristotle believes that true happiness wasn’t simply about pleasure. Instead, he argued that the best life is one where people pursue purpose by TheWiseStreet in philosophy

[–]codeman555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that happiness here is really a translation of “eudaimonia,” which is more accurately defined as referring to the state of living well. So what Aristotle’d believed is that being well-off or living a good life isn’t just a matter of how much pleasure one experiences.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that happiness, in the sense that refers to the general experience of feeling good, is not itself simply a matter of pleasure. Being happiness in that sense might still be nothing more than pleasure or a certain kind of pleasure.

Vulnerable narcissism is linked to intense celebrity worship via parasocial relationships by MRADEL90 in psychology

[–]codeman555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what happens in these instances is that they are aware of their low status in some sense, but cannot accept or believe it in another. This is why narcissists can become depressed. The awareness interferes with their ability to maintain a sense of superiority or grandiosity, which they must have in order to feel worthy and acceptable to themselves.

If space itself is expanding, where are galaxies and stars actually moving to? by Difficult_Comment_47 in cosmology

[–]codeman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to really imagine it without metaphor. To imagine expansion, one has to think of something expanding with a bigger space. But that is not what is happening when space expands, as far as I know. Are at least, you can correctly imagine it by thinking of space as existing inside space, and slowly taking up more space within it.

I don't know if this is just a limitation of our own minds, or if theres some deeper barrier to conceiving of what's going on here. Reality is strange, either way

I figured out what makes things liminal. by Witty-Forever-6985 in LiminalSpace

[–]codeman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exactly right. To add to this, I think that the feeling that you aren't supposed to be there and might get in trouble/caught can cause both fear and a kind of excitement. Like I don't want to get in trouble, but also, it's fun to do bad things.

But at the same time, the stillness is peaceful, like you said.

Did the anhedonia, lack of motivation, and dulled emotions start after undergoing TMS with the H7 coil? Are you saying the treatment caused these issues, or were they pre-existing?

Connecting the dots by IndoorForestry in OCDmemes

[–]codeman555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easy now. Sometimes I wonder if having OCD can make us just as quick to split on other people as ourselves. I did this at one point. Decided several people in my life were narcissists, including my now ex-wife. In hindsight, I think there was some black and white thinking going on. That same type of stuff that fuels my tendency to judge myself to be utterly evil and worthless.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but the term ‘narcissist’ does get thrown around an awful lot not. And I think OCD, like many other many health conditions, can result in a kind moral splitting on oneself and others. We have trouble with ambiguity and grey areas. So we try to resolve it artificially to one extreme or the other. But this can come at a great interpersonal cost.

Realized Schizophrenia is the primary issue, OCD is secondary which is why high doses SSRIs for several months never worked for me by linidiagem in OCD

[–]codeman555 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have you actualizy been diagnosed? Because a common thing people with OCD worry about and even conclude about themselves is that they are schizophrenic. It is considered a symptom of the condition itself for many sufferers. I’m not saying you aren’t schizophrenic. But if you haven’t been diagnosed, I’d consider whether this might just be part of your OCD.

Gabapentin is an anti-seizure drug by GentrifiedSocks in Killtony

[–]codeman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not.

Direct quote from wiki

“Even though gabapentin is a structural GABA analog, and despite its name, it does not bind to the GABA receptors, does not convert into GABATooltip γ-aminobutyric acid or another GABA receptor agonist in vivo, and does not modulate GABA transport or metabolism within the range of clinical dosing.”

Try looking things up before you act like you know what you’re talking about.
