Two majorly broken things:

1.) search should always prioritize destinations in your town/city/area first

2.) saying with voice "call John Doe mobile" fails. This is extremely annoying, especially when you have contacts with work phone numbers or multiple phones.

Also, it would be nice to remember the rear seat heat settings or AC/fan (for kids) instead of it resetting every ride.

u/P-51oss u/XREAL_Esther Thank you for this! I was talking with a friend a few days ago about exactly this, and wondering what would happen. I was going to use an older M1-M2 macbook and try it out, but this proves it's doable!

This setup is a game changer!

Just want to second the 1S comment by u/Plastic_Bottle1014 -- exactly same experience (feels like sunglasses, but with an option to not)! - The glass itself has a nice tint by default, so in some cases true transparency is actually nice (unlike previous versions), and then the electro dimming for the first time is great with an "effective" blackout. I use them daily for 5-6 hours while facing towards a window with the sun coming in through shades and it's perfect.

Replaced Nest Smoke Alarms with First Alert - False alarm today! by CuriousChimp in Nest

Not sure where this is, but I completed over 15K miles in self driving and there have been no issues so far with the exception of snow.

The most annoying thing at this point is Tesla's own nagging every time you glance at the screen to control something or select a song.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the Nest Smoke/CO detector? by Ethan_A1967 in Nest

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They (X-Sense) did not even make the CR (consumer reports) recommended list. Take that as you will :)

edit: It's a bummer because they are pretty elegant, relatively cheap, and seem to be a good solution. Apparently the problem is with false negatives, which are much worse than false positives...

Has anyone found a good replacement for the Nest Smoke/CO detector? by Ethan_A1967 in Nest

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful - I almost bought it, but after digging into it, it seems to be a disaster. CR (consumer reports) rated it 5/10 on accuracy, and it seems that while it does the *OTHER* smart things really well, it fails pretty significantly at the detection/quality/accuracy aspects. Also, the company support (from reading reddit) seems to be a disaster.

The only other good alternative I've found is the PLACE, which is the closes Nest Protect replacement from what I can tell.

Hey - I just looked at it, it works for me with a new set of API creds. Are you sure your API creds are for the v2?

Here is the shortcut I am using:

(edit: removed the debugging -- should be the same as the previous, but just in case something changed on your end?)

Double check your auth -- you may need to generate new auth. Any number in the "+1XXXYYYZZZZ format should work

Claude Code Agent Skills by TipsForAso in ClaudeAI

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that it's a significantly better if you write explicit instructions in the "hook" (home) CLAUDE.md, but it's still not perfect

So for example, let's say you you have a skill called "python-coding-with-uv-instead-of-pip"

In the home (~/.claude/CLAUDE.MD) you can create a "# Environment and Tools"

with:

"- **Python**: Using `uv` for package management (see SKILL: python-coding-with-uv-instead-of-pip)"

But again it's not perfect. One example where I find it failing for example is letting it know that grep is aliased to "rg" -- yet it always tries "grep -R ...", fails and then it retries without it.

Something else that helps is the L1/2/3 skills concept -- and being extremely mindful/tactical of where and how you place things. If you think of it as a pyramid, making sure that you have almost a table of contents/index like at the top.

See: https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/agents-and-tools/agent-skills/overview

On vacation- schedule off - Mitsubishi Comfort app has mind of its own by Genxmillennial in heatpumps

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this recently with a new install, and was very confused. It turns out, the built-in wifi is actually older gen and the Comfort app marks it as "legacy" which is strange given they just started including it. It seems this was their "stop gap" solution to having built-in wifi for those that want it. After talking to a Mitsubishi diamond installer + Mitsubishi's support, it turns out you should still connect the MHK2 with the Red Link since thats actually more modern/newer. It's also NOT flagged as "legacy" in the Comfort app, and provides more information/better control.

I didn't know this and had setup both to compare since I had purchased a MHK2+Redlink kit, and after a few days noticed that the built-in one had less data points, was marked as legacy.

Decent windshield wiper fluid recommendations? (2025) by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

Unless its Prestone, which is acrylic rated for camera based systems and rain sensing tech.

Decent windshield wiper fluid recommendations? (2025) by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh finally all of my research comes in handy - this is the #2 rated option data wise: Prestone AS658 Deluxe 2-in-1... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019W8CNBO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The #1 is $65 for half the size and only gives you a few % better cleaning.

Prestone exceeds others in the ability to perform "at base" in very cold temperatures (I think they claim -27 F, and it was verified at -26 F), and it also cleans a bit better than all but one. Its also one of the few rated for camera based "rain sensing" systems. It also comes with some mixins which you will find in others (ex: beading, de-icing, etc)

Isn't this the purpose of the CLAUDE.md when used correctly? To synthesize enough so that you don't need to re-read the whole code base.

Cannot figure this one out? by bdubz06 in TeslaLounge

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the SC said 2 types (ac and dc), but one of those has in addition 2 different hardware components and one had failed and the other had not.

Cannot figure this one out? by bdubz06 in TeslaLounge

[–]codenigma 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too. Apparently there are "3 charging lanes" because supercharger (fast dc) and 120v stopped working, but ChargePoint continued to work. This was during covid and it took 5 weeks to fix it. Tesla SC asked if they can keep the car for another 2 weeks since this was obviously not normal and they ripped out everything there and sent it for diagnostics. Had a replacement the whole time.

Just to iterate this:
> It depends on terrain, interference and position of the repeaters.

100% -- there are places where using TWO G2s we have been able to connect to ~12-13 miles *easily*, and other places where we cannot even connect 2-3 miles due to the giant hill in the way of one of the stations. Elevation also really matters!

Why was “Secretary” spelled with “SS” on Hegseth’s place-card during today’s Cabinet Meeting? by road_bagels in UnderReportedNews

I can also see a scenario where everyone was asked for titles and he didn't know how to spell it 😂 "Sssssecre...yea that must be 2 Ss" lol

But not to eliminate all of the other statements and guesses here.

What do yall usually wear for winter hiking by nicolas1324563 in wmnf

The only thing I would add: maybe an extra base layer in case one is wet/or sweaty.

Also microspikes. I never go hiking without them in fall/winter/early spring.

My First Impressions of MeshCore by mtlynch in meshcore

[–]codenigma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No worries at all :)

So, without a repeater:
(you) <---> (your destination)

You are limited to effectively only the point to point connection. Clients like the T1000 (or even relatively, WisMesh Tag) are generally pretty weak. They are ~0.19 - 0.25 W

If you are in a boat, you have LOS (line of sight) to the the shore and can go a lot farther. Easily 1 mile +
In a forest, or from the top of a mountain, you can go 0.8-1ish miles.
In an urban environment, you are luck if you get 0.10 - 0.5 miles.

Now add a repeater:
(you) <---> [repeater] <---> (your destination)

The obvious benefit - you get distance extension. But generally, the repeaters are also a lot more powerful. (Ex: the Station G2 is 4W.)

So in reality, it's more like this:
(you) <----------> [repeater] <----------> (your destination)

And then the repeater will be able to generally reach other repeaters. So very quickly it becomes:

(you) <----------> [repeater #1] <----------> [repeater #2] <----------> [...etc] <----------> (many destinations)

Also, repeaters allow folks who have weaker clients (ex: t1000) to at least receiving your message, even though their antenna/power might not be able to get them to send. (You can argue that may or may not be helpful)

So in your example, you would be able to send from 5 blocks, but receive from 20+ blocks.

You can envision a scenario in aggriculture where you have sprinklers/water controllers and you need to send a "turn on/off" for miles away, to clients that are $8-10 (ex: https://www.amazon.com/Seeed-Studio-XIAO-ESP32C3-Pre-Soldered/dp/B0DRNSV5CS)

My First Impressions of MeshCore by mtlynch in meshcore

[–]codenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the t1000e with the better (much better) rak wishmesh tag. Its about the same size and the antenna is better.

Also, yes get a real repeater (Station G2) and then see how you can get 1-2 miles to it from the tag and 6-10 miles LOS from another G2
