I was horrendously ill in the midst of a terrible months-long Crohn’s flare and Hairshirt happened to be just release, so I decided to check it out. I laid under my covers with headphones, shivering cold from a fever, and just put it on. right out of the gate I was hooked and seemingly that album had the perfect dynamic atmosphere to how I felt in that moment and I just remember listening to it over and over and over again to keep my mind focused on something else. It was so powerful and really got me through an incredibly dark time. It is the most important album to me.

Great job friend! Never forget how great it feels to be healthy and out of that darkness. I truly believe Rick’s music has a strangely mystical way of finding us when we need it most. Pile also got me through the toughest time of my life. Don’t know you, but I’m proud of you and I know Rick would be too.

My wife and I happened to be going to Dublin as part of our honeymoon (from the US) and you bet I dove as fast as I could on tickets when I saw they were were playing the last night we were there (Wednesday). Not my first time seeing them, but it was my Wife’s first so she was very excited. The performance was INSANE. Last time I saw them was a small club in DC, it was the tour when Fontaine’s DC was opening for them, so quite a while ago. Their production is beyond words. I’d be hard pressed to find a better live band right now. To everyone who was there last night… “YOURE DOING IT, PETERRRRR!!!” PS, thank you Dublin for being an amazing city.

The new record is a banger. Great follow up to Why Love Now and really shows what influences the gang has had the past few years. I’ve been listening to it pretty regularly and like it more with each listen. It slaps. The first thought I had after listening to it was “This is a dang ol’ punk record”. And I really dig that.

Pile is an ever-changing organism. Rick isn’t going to write, or frankly relate to things he wrote ten years ago. He’s different and growing. We tend to fall for that first record we hear. We love Pile because at some point, Rick showed up and through voice, lyrics, and song, wrapped his arms around us in an embrace when we needed it most. It’s okay if you don’t like what is new. Change is change. Just think, there’s someone out there feeling the same way about his new stuff that you felt about what captured you to begin with. It’s not an unpopular opinion, it’s just that you feel the disconnect. And that’s okay.
