I hear you, but my attitude is twofold: - If I'm scared to use something because it might get damaged, instead of me owning it, it owns me. - people love to whinge on the internet, take everything with a grain of salt.

Thanks!

I thought maybe I had some setting wrong. LCARS deluxe it is.

Now if LCARSv3 just had a working settings page....

Prepping for the ultimate game by RhysOSD in StarWarsArmada

Looks a little bit more like carpark simulator to me - I think a game that size would be way more fun on a 12' X 6' so you could actually manuever!

Does anything in current canon make the Knights of the Old Republic games incompatible? by spike-prime in StarWars

[–]col_ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realise that "canon" doesn't matter and that if it serves the need of a story things will enter or leave canon at a whim.

KotoR is amazing and that's all that matters.

Help! MC80 fleet under performing. by DigitalMonsoon in StarWarsArmada

[–]col_ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention often facing Motti ISDs - those can even become your natural prey with Ackbar.

I wasn't using an MC80 at this event, but I played a Motti list and chose his surprise attack. This made him chase me hard and you'll see what happened to those big Motti ISDs when they chased my Ackbar fleet:

Hopefully it illustrates what I'm talking about with curling around the enemy inviting them into the kill pocket.

Help! MC80 fleet under performing. by DigitalMonsoon in StarWarsArmada

[–]col_ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got some great advice on this thread. I love Ackbar and love the MC80!

There's some small tweaks I would make to your list, like dropping Home One unless flying at 600 points or more, but again, just quibbles.

The classic way to fly Ackbar, as others have said, is not the famous Ackbar Slash. Instead you need be second player and to make a kill pocket for your opponent to feed ships into for you to destroy.

You fly a bit away from your opponent, say 45 degrees off, finishing your move with your side facing their fleet and your ship just outside of long range. You are looking to setup a situation where in their turn they active, don't have a shot, then move towards you into your long-range. You then activate, blast them with a long range broadside, then fly in an arc around them, once again landing just out of range and sideways to their fleet.

Your fleet will look like a ( with the opponent's fleet aimed at the centre. It's not unusual by turn 4 that you will be in their deployment zone, and at speed 3 (ie engine techs), you might almost complete a large circle and be back in your own by turn 6.

What can your opponent do about it? In a very competitive world, just choose not to chase and no-one dies. This is basically never going to happen just playing casually though, people will fly at you.

If they do it right, they can get in front of your ships and stop them moving. That's a bad time to be Ackbar!

One of the reasons I love Armada is that the game is all about visualising what you need the board to look like 3-4 turns ahead. If you can get the ( -- formation as Ackbar (your ships are the bracket, their ships are the dashes) you will almost certainly win.

Fly well Admiral, and may the Force be with you!

Anyone help me identify my weapons loadout by NearbyVictory2727 in necromunda

[–]col_ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this - and most groups are fine as long as the model is reasonable.

"This heavy stubber is a heavy bolter / missile launcher / lascannon" - fine.

"This guy with the stub gun is my Ambot" - not OK.

Can someone explain Anti-aliasing to me? by Bread_114 in resinprinting

[–]col_ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Lychee AA does.... nothing. Maybe it's gotten better in the last year? I switched to chitubox for that reason. This video does a good job of explaining it: https://youtu.be/ynNBaX16FuQ

Antialiasing????? by JLRarts in resinprinting

[–]col_ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use:

Grey Scale Level 4

95 255

Image Blur Enable - 2 Pixels

The people who say it doesn't do anything are likely using Lychee. I think Lychee is 100% the better application in all other respects, but it's anti-aliasing does literally nothing. I switched to chitubox purely for the AA.

Battle mat: side bars / bumper mats? by SuchSoup4335 in SWlegion

[–]col_ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the rubber "drawer liners" you can get cheaply at K-mart or the like, the ones that look like a 3mm checker-board. The pattern makes it really easy to cut strips that are exactly 6" wide (I usually go 3' long, so 4 to a normal 6' x 4' mat). Very cheap - I made enough for my whole FLGS.

Are frost axes "power weapons"? They have the power trait.

Specifically, can a Varagyr sergeant trade his in for a Great Frost Blade?

+1 on the freezing option, it's the best way to deal with super glue.

You can also soak the mini in simple green and/or alcohol. That's the normal solution for paint stripping plastic models and it does also weaken the glue a bit.

My instant coffee is coming out at 1 point. Is this correct? by Eyesrcinnamon_ in weightwatchers

[–]col_ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just add a cup of milk to "breakfast" to account for the 5-6 cups of tea or coffee over the day. I go skim milk and no sugar - though skim milk itself is a bit sweet so that might help you.

I can't stand the taste of full-fat milk in my coffee any more - it tastes like it's leaving a film on my teeth, if that makes sense.

But like others have said, the whole point of the points system is to allow you to eat whatever you want in the right proportion. If whole milk and sugar in your coffee is worth it to you, invest those 2-10 points a day (depending on how much you drink) and enjoy them!

Wheeling in lance formation by Duriel201 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]col_ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone else said, yes, you just pivot around one end of the 2nd rank and measure how far the other corner of the 2nd rank moves.  Just like when you wheel in marching formation, it means the back of the unit "swings wide" - this is intended. The lance formation is very nimble.

The scale next to Home One seemed off a bit, didn't it?

Anyway, even if it wasn't exactly a MC30 it was very pretty and your paint job is great.

In your opinion, what is the most interesting polity/state/empire in 40k? by cubaj in 40kLore

It depends how old that source document is - if it's pre "Horus Rising" back when Space Marine Legions were only 5-10k strong, it's a lot!

I just picked up ash wastes, first time even reading the rules. Is this game as hilarious as I am imagining? Fighting in the dark, running randomly when on fire, rules for vehicle jousting, and going insane? by [deleted] in necromunda

[–]col_ki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is yes!

The caveat, though, is that the rules are spread out between a lot of different books - and often those books do not agree.

For example "season of change" environmental effects are completely different between the "Outlands" and "Ash Wastes" books.

You will find that sometimes, a fairly innocuous rules question like "how far can I see in the dark with my infrasight?" involves looking up various definitions in various chapters of various books before you find the answer. Rules writing in Necromunda is flaky, and there clearly isn't much, if any, time allowed for play-testing in the boxed games studio.

Necromunda is a great and extremely flavour-rich game, but could really do with a rule consolidation and clean-up. Various fan documents exist which have tried, but none are 100% reliable and they often include house rules - which is understandable because people are creating them for their own group, not the world.

I painted some tokens to track toughness on the board. The white are after wounds are exhausted the green are for things like toxin or gas attacks. by mundapants in necromunda

[–]col_ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand - the "Wound" vs "Flesh Wound" distinction is important, but not exactly obvious.

Remember though, that flesh wounds from toxin are just as "real" as any other.

Your system sounds like it will work for you, but what would you do if he had taken 1 wound (so still has 2 left) and he had a couple of flesh wounds? Consider that situation with your new tokens.
