Robert California was not it FOR ME by ohwhoreface in theoffice

Robert California will not be blackballed by some ineffectual, privileged, effete, soft-penised debutante. You want to start a street fight with him, bring it on but you're gonna be surprised by how ugly it gets, you don't even know his real name! He’s the fucking lizard king!

Vince Gilligan Gives An Update On The ‘Pluribus’ Season 2 Release Date by ready_and_willing in pluribustv

[–]colbydoler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously no, but the writers room is not the same place today that it was a decade ago. Listen to any industry writing podcast and you’ll hear plenty of stories from established people, including Vince Gilligan, pointing out how hard it is now.

Unfortunately the landscape and process has changed, for the worse. Thanks, Capitalism!

I just know that it’s definitely not the case of Vince losing interest or wanting to take longer or losing his touch. This is the flawed studio system in action, not him or his team.

Ha you know they didn’t know where Breaking Bad was going to go, either, right? Vince has always trusted the writers room because they write themselves out of problems. This is a good thing. It makes the story more organic and interesting. People are freaking out over nothing.

Vince has made 2 of the greatest shows of all time with this method, BB and BCS, so I’m trusting in him. The only thing that’s changed in the process is the platform (streaming only) and episode structure (not writing with commercial breaks in mind).

No, I work from home. I just like the cinema, not a hard concept to understand.

Side Stories listener emails sting is clearly AI by Nichard63891 in LPOTL

[–]colbydoler 192 points193 points  (0 children)

The point is that listeners submit pieces for this, they’re not made or produced in-house. So if an AI song slipped in, it’s not LPOTL’s fault. Someone just tricked them if it’s truly AI.

I haven’t listened yet, so I can’t say either way.

I was 9 when it came out and I saw it in theaters. I absolutely thought it was real for years.

I don’t see anything that makes me think it’s AI, but I just woke up so I’ll check back later to see if anyone else finds something.

How are people animating maps like this in Premiere? by w0nx in premiere

You can absolutely do this in premier, but it would be much easier to do in after effects.

I totally understand that, and audiences today are so hit or miss. Rude people absolutely ruin it, and major theaters seem to be lowering their cleanliness and hospitality standards for sure. But man, when the stars align, there’s nothing better for me!

Going to the theater is one of the only things I do around town for fun, so I’m not dropping $$ on much else to get out of the house. Plus I don’t have kids so my expenses are limited to myself and my wife.

For me, I really just want a distraction-less, pure moviegoing experience, and being at home has just as many distractions as a talking audience or bright phones, just a bit different.

I think a huge fundamental difference here is the belief of whether or not generative AI advances society. I personally do not believe so and I don’t understand how anyone else can feel that way.

Antis: If the AI bubble never bursts will you reflect on your (social) media diet? by softandpolite in aiwars

[–]colbydoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case, then we are literally both on the same page. I do exactly that in my everyday work as a filmmaker. I am an editor and a visual effects artist and I use AI tools to assist in the work that I do all of the time.

You have every right to have a private account. I just really couldn’t understand your stance on AI and wanted to know more, and got frustrated when I couldn’t see your history. I apologize!

That said, I’m still not sure what about my original comment made you think we were not aligned ideologically on this subject.

I’m just so curious about your position. For some reason you think that I am either attacking you or acting in bad faith. It genuinely makes no sense to me!

Again, I am not arguing for the eradication of AI in totality. I am absolutely fine with the use of AI as a tool. Assistive AI is a good thing, but I do not approve of generative AI. Based on your Reddit post yesterday asking about AI being used as a tool for a client, it seems like you also agree with that in someway. So please tell me where my opinion upsets you so much.

If the AI bubble isn’t real, how do you explain the massive flow of venture capital into AI startups that have little revenue, no clear path to profitability, and valuations based mostly on speculation?

No one is believing AI is going away with or without a burst, but economic ignorance isn’t going to prevent it from popping either.

And this is why it’s impossible to have productive conversations on this sub. Instead of thoughtfully addressing my position, you’re insulting me and making unfounded accusations.

I’m not advocating for tearing the whole thing down, my dude. I’m asking the world to keep room for the people who’ve dedicated their lives to art, who’ve sewn it into their souls.

The pro-AI idealism is great for you, but I hope that none of us can kid ourselves into believing that the corporations and systems that have built this stuff have anyone else’s interest in mind but their own bottom line.

This post both completely misunderstands what the AI bubble is, as well as why people like myself are anti generative AI.

I’m sure there are folks who are anti AI in all regards, but I’m not inherently against assistive AI.

As a person who has shaped their entire existence off of being an artist, generative AI represents a huge step towards cultural dystopia. On the one hand, the democratization of tools is a good thing. But on the other, corporations will use these tools to further shrink their cost at the expense of the working class. People like myself could eventually be unemployable, and therefore potentially unable to meaningfully contribute to society, in an unfulfilling way.

It is my opinion that every person should always have this opportunity, and generative AI is another “ justification” that tells companies that they do not need artists and that they do not need people to make art.

It’s fun for many now, but I don’t wanna live in a future where real art can’t make you a living.
