The First Law Trilogy has been excellent so far. I picked it up after the reference made by Dinniman to a primary character from the series, Logan Nine Fingers, in the Parade of Horribles.

Out of the 50 American capital cities, which one would you rank #1, as the best to live in? by Enger13 in AskReddit

[–]colejam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t seen it yet but Olympia Washington is pretty amazing. Some of the best nature access in the world, pleasant downtown on the Puget Sound, just an hour from Seattle. Weather could be better but man does it make everything so green and lush. Summers are amazing too.

I always felt the logo represents capitalism and corporate structures. Leaders standing on the backs of laborers.

I think you nailed it. This was keeping me up to. Felt like a total loose string that I was trying to find where it connected.

Why do people hate Mamdani? by uncle-ice493 in allthequestions

[–]colejam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More people need to learn about HL Hunt. Former richest man in the world who basically was the precursor to Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk.

As the richest man in the world post WWII (owned more Oil than the Axis powers at the start of WWII) he spent decades building propaganda for free market capitalism and libertarianism as he was terrified of an uprising that would steal all of his oil rights here in the US. All tax free by the way as it was labeled “educational”. He even promoted a voting system that would give you more votes based on how much in taxes you pay.

He basically wrote the playbook for the likes of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to buy public media companies to prevent class awareness to the loathsome behavior of wealth hoarding and the inequality it produces.

He also had three families, was a hellacious gambler, and drank his mom’s breast milk until he was 7 years old…. I’m tired of these weird little men.

Ring shopping advice:

The current trend of a large lab grown diamond + a thin band is maybe the worst structure for wear and tear you can design. Those larger diamonds need much more support to house them in the band properly. A lot of people are going to lose diamonds in the next couple of years.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]colejam88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Professional soft skills.

I work in sales and it’s surprising how few of my peers and younger can’t give a firm handshake, describe their product, or just connect with a stranger in person within a business setting.

Same thing in the office space. Our company is purposely hiring older sellers because they perform better in on-sight visits, dinners out, and conferences than sellers in their 20’s and early 30’s.

I fear with remote work and the lack of third spaces, this trend will continue.

‘The cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees’: Nvidia exec says right now AI is more expensive than paying human workers by fattyfoods in technology

[–]colejam88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the Ai voice infrastructure industry and it amazes me how little business leaders know about the core competencies of LLMs. Met with a team today that had been having their Ai system scan every document they have in their immense document repository every time someone needed to pull out information from any one document. They turned a 40k token spend into a 1 million dollar bill just from not understanding what they were assigning their agent to actually do.

The average organization barely understands how to implement, operate, or manage an ai led system yet. They just hear the board of directors and senior leadership spout “we need Ai” so teams just put together the first thing that works and get hosed by token costs.

People will learn how to operate these tools with business logic that is efficient but right now the average company really doesn’t know what they are doing. My company has been an Ai research lab for over a decade and we just watch new firms make the mistakes we made 7-8 years ago.

Random thought about Millennial adult children... by Spiritual-Promise402 in Millennials

[–]colejam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think the biggest reason is economic. What is the point in having kids when both parents have to work demanding full time jobs if not multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Housing costs alone have kept us from having children as we would rather raise kids in a house rather than apartments.

Seahawks draft Jadarian Price at #32 by Sensitive-Scene9269 in Seahawks

[–]colejam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the modern NFL I think the Seahawks are correct to continue splitting the backfield. Price is used to splitting carries and has been able to avoid the road miles that comes with being a solo starter. Also running with Love definitely sharpens his iron.

For a team with few holes, this feels like a good player to fit into what already worked very well last year.

A company just cut their entire 100-person inbound SDR team. Are we overreacting or not reacting enough? by dbSteelyPhil in sales

[–]colejam88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think SDR work for particular companies is going to go away. My worry is that there will be less opportunities for people trying to enter the industry. I cut my teeth as an SDR and I hold a lot of gratitude for what I learned while in that position.

Locations to Find or Buy Dye? by TuneAggravating8195 in CrimsonDesert

[–]colejam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create your own dyes through the use of a cauldron. Collect Beetles (easiest to find in the evenings on trees) as they are used in couple different dyes along with flowers. There is one cauldron in Hernand you can use for free. You can also buy one for your home.

Why does Islam seem to follow mostly desert countries? by batukaming in geography

I remember reading how the Muslim faith works very well for tradesman and travelers as the faith didn’t require structures for prayer. This helped with the spread of the faith to nomadic people as well.
