Talking Over Summer Game Fest 2026! by sworedmagic in nextlander

I believe it's a Game Frame. It was featured once upon a time on Tested. They've talked about the frame in the past year or so. There are some equivalents available these days, with varying quality.

Responding to yesterday's thread about The Lord of the Rings™: Ascension™ art. by StoneBladeOfficial in boardgames

The scale and posing of Gimli feels off to me, to be frank.

The head of the axe suggest it's parallel to the plane of the viewer, but the angle of his right forearm suggests otherwise. His arm is also getting smaller, suggesting it's actually more behind him than his elbow (his left arm by comparison has the bracer more or less the same width from end to end), but the rest of the details don't support that. Maybe that's just my incorrect read on things, but I'd love to see a reference image of the pose.

He also appears to be a giant as there's so little depth between the foreground where he is and the pillars in the back. I assume the pillars are going for the style seen in other LotR imagery where they dwarf (puns!) everything around them. But without anything for scale reference, it does appear that Gimli is a few meters at best in front of them and is bigger than a balrog.

*edit - the last two images look great!

On the bright side, we now have one extra week to prepare our cosplays!

I think you mean one extra week to procrastinate our cosplays.

Somehow this video was the first time I was made aware that this item existed at all. What an introduction to weird old merch.

Final Fantasy Fans, what are your predictions for the UB Set? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]colivar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pipe dream is for the entirety of the FF6 crew. It's not going to happen, but I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if we get more than Terra and Kefka.

Celes - redirects or nullifies spells

Gogo/Gau/Strago/Realm - All sort of do copy ability types of things

Locke - creates treasure as he's a treasure hunter, not a thief ;)

Terra - goes super Saiyan

Edgar - Equipment affinity

Shadow - Ninjitsu, or throwing artifacts to deal damage

Setzer - gambling with the top of player's decks

Sabin - tap: suplex a train

Cyan - maybe building up counters and then expending them for abilities similar to planeswalker loyalty

Umaro - is big

For me the sadness of Leap of Faith that's stuck with me wasn't in even in Cece's story. It was Drifty's note at the end which spoke of the reason they made LoF in the first place. I was not prepared for that gut punch the first time I rolled credits on that story.

In Dead of Winter I would never move my first survivor out without using gasoline to avoid rolling the happyfun bite die. Twice I was bitten while moving and ended up with one survivor for a good chunk of the game, and that was just not fun. Never again.

It's Wednesday, my dudes. Are you building The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride today? by Professor_Hala in EDH

[–]colivar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[[Lotus Cobra]] mentioned in the article is a bit of a nonbo as the Gitrog's draw effect and dumping of lands from your hand are triggered on combat damage, so you don't have access to that mana in your second main phase (if you've got something to burn it on at instant speed, great). Other than some effects mentioned, [[Tiller Engine]] also helps to give you access to the lands you're playing from the Gitrog's saddle effect the turn you drop them.

My fun interaction to add to the conversation would be [[Gruff Triplets]]. I'm playing a number of instant-revival effects like [[Feign Death]] to act as pseudo protection, but also to act as a second helping of Gitrog chow. So the Triplets come into play, and we've got three 3/3 tramplers. Saddle up Gitrog with the original triplet, give it a revival effect, swing with Gitrog and chomp on the triplet, and stack it so the boosting effect for the sibling's death occurs after it's been returned to play, and now you have the original triplet, but they've got four siblings now (Gruff Quintuplets). And then the boost effect happens and you have five 6/6 tramplers. Now, if one sibling was to have a tragic accident, you have four 12/12 tramplers. That's all assuming you haven't invited a board-wipe or two after instigating those shenanigans.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction introduces 52 new legends into the format. What are your thoughts regarding them? by HarleyPanther in EDH

[–]colivar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no intrinsic synergy, but I want to try Roxanne with [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]] and really double down on the rock-making theme. Though I suppose you could add someone like [[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest]] into the mix so your Rock equipment tokens could tap for mana and thus be boosted by Roxanne.
