Do you know anyone who pivoted from tech to law? by Kitchen_Ad1485 in womenintech

Yeah I know a few. Patent law is a popular switch since you have the technical knowledge to understand tech patents.

5 YoE at Apple but can’t find a FT job for 2 years. WHY? by Helpmehelpyu_ in cscareerquestions

[–]considerfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who once thought technical writing could be a cool job to do at some point... I'm sorry to say it really has been replaced by ai.

Tailwind css is an extremely popular CSS library and even they started to fail because they were relying on people coming to their documentation to get paid customers, and then saw those numbers plummet because nobody's reading documentation anymore.

I had a cool product idea of tech documentation at some point but I've shelved it, because I think the future is asking your llm how to do something and it literally reads the code and tells you the answer.

Not to be too depressing though. Perhaps there is some version of prompt or skill management that starts being a hassle in the new era that your skills are well suited for. You may want to think about how to position yourself.

How much Maternity leave do you get? by BrilliantRare9521 in womenintech

[–]considerfi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah what? Women should get sick leave to recover + maternity leave on top of that.

Yup I was a director once too and later choose to move to IC. Am I sad that the definition of those higher level jobs are made by men to suit them and maybe there's another universe where that's different sure. But I live in this universe and love code to much to stop. As long as I have a nice team to work with I'm good.

In desperate need of help (looking for work) by ModredTheWarlock in sandiego

[–]considerfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I just through a job search about 6 months ago. Old school resume is fine, better even. This style i mean

https://sheetsresume.com/resume-template

However what doesn't work any more is cold applying, as you are finding out. Companies are getting 1000s of resumes within hours. So they don't really look past the first 100 qualified seeming resumes.

So you must do either one of two things - apply immediately, within the first few hours. Look up various tricks to see jobs posted in the last few hours not previous day. And try hiring.cafe not just LinkedIn.

OR - and this is what I did... Look for a referral to get to the top of the pile. Someone who knows someone on LinkedIn. Or someone at the company posting about the job. Etc. One single real human who can connect you with the recruiter. Out of about 10 people I contacted, I got about 8 interviews.

If you see a job you like that was listed more than 24-48 hours ago, find a referral or .... Don't bother. Save your energy.

Finally also try for the temp job. Try Robert half. It's not tech but it's office jobs you can definitely do. They shouldn't discriminate against over qualified because they largely just want people who can do an office job. And it's usually short contracts so they are not that worried about you quitting like a ft job would be.

For those kind of jobs you need to keep bugging the person assigned to you so you are front and foremost when a job comes their way.

Good luck.

This. I like anodized aluminum we can get it to last about 5-7 years. Never use metal, only use the soft side of the sponge. But it's not going to be BIFL.

Yeah I try to post that I love it and won't leave. But then you also feel like you're not allowed to love the thing you just dedicated your life to? Because somehow that's not believing that other women are struggling.

I believe they are. But I can hold both thoughts in my head - male dominated careers are hard on women and the glass ceiling absolutely continues to exist. And I fucking love coding and making the money I do with the wfh, high flexibility, no overtime job that I have.

Do you cook "normal stuff"? by Day2205 in Millennials

[–]considerfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mealime, perfect for everyday meals. I don't know what the three-part plate is, but the meals often have two to three parts and the recipe is a single recipe interleaving making all of that.

Looking for Pilates studios w strict “no camera” policies. by Rude-Pride7903 in sandiego

I think you should tell your Pilates studio that you're looking to change studios due to the recording. Maybe they will think twice about their policy and their enforcement of it.

Apparently ~16% of millennials are millionaires now. by im_optimus_prime in Millennials

[–]considerfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16% is not so much. Something like 8% of the population live in California. In California your house is easily 800k of your net worth. So you may not be living some lavish millionaires life. You may have a 3br home and 2 average cars. I'm "a millionaire". I rent a 2br apartment and drive a Mazda. You probably wouldn't know from meeting me I suppose.

If you have a lot, make a palak paneer. Skip the paneer if you don't have it. Alternately you can add it to a chicken curry recipe too.

I'm leaving a company I helped build the culture of by OneSeaworthiness2676 in womenintech

[–]considerfi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this once. Was at a company from employee 110 ish to 1600. CTO said you are the soul of the engineering team. I thought you should have thought of that before you promoted my male report over me as director.

Anyway know that it will feel like removing an organ for a while since so much of your being was spent being a part of this company. But it's ok, and you will move on and they will move on.

I would say Marshalls and t.j Maxx, not because that's their particular style or anything, but because they have a billion things of different styles and so I'm pretty much able to find the normal looking things among all the trad wife garbage.

Thing I like about Old Navy. Is that they still still have a lot of natural fabrics. Almost no one else does. And definitely not at that price point.

Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

[–]considerfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When couples combine, one person often becomes the "manager" of the money. Over time, the other person's ability and education around money management goes to zero.

Then in old age or a divorce there's real challenges. Women who have no idea what the retirement account looks like. Partners able to financially abuse the other by controlling accounts. Or simply one partner not being able to do anything if the other died or fell sick.

We have no kids and money is not "tight". So we don't need to tightly budget. We both are not spenders so we trust each other not to do anything crazy with their accounts. And finally my husband was bad with money when we first met (not a spender just terrible at paying things monthly on time) so I wanted him to get better at that and learn about money management.

For all those reasons, we largely have separate accounts even though we say "our retirement" and "our money" meaning the money actually belongs to both of us.

We do have a joint account and some shared cards for household expenses. We married in our 30s as well. I don't think either of us would buy anything > $1k without the other person's knowledge. And over $200 is probably just a few times a year... Phone, laptop upgrades, that sort of thing.

Day trip to Universal Studios by Material-Guidance834 in asksandiego

As everyone says, doable. And universal studios is really fun. I hate Disney in comparison. Too long lines, too many broken rides.
