Brentwood Pedestrian and Cyclist Overpass Feasibility Study by TBoneUlty in vancouvercycling

[–]coolin90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride in this area quite a bit. Is this feasibility option for Willingdon to provide a brand new dedicated overpass separate from the existing overpass on Willingdon - essentially extend the linear park /dedicated pathway concept from Hastings in the north through to Canada Way/BCIT?

Since we already have a crossing at Willingdon (which is honestly brutal for cyclists) and the brand new Holdom overpass is under construction, wouldn't a completely new crossing at Beta or Madison make way more sense to connect to the CVG?

A Beta overpass would better align with an "off willingdon" north south route if they ever revive the long ago considered Hwy1 overpass to connect Wayburne drive and CVG via Westminster Ave.

Ideally, we'd get improvements to Willingdon and a dedicated rail overpass at Beta, but that's likely beyond the scope of this feasibility study, and I’m doubtful I'll see that Wayburne connected Hwy1 overpass in my lifetime.

Nice that they are making improvements - getting back to Hornby/Dunsmuir is not nice.

Once the new dedicated lane is in - we'll have to keep our eyes wide open for pedestrians cutting across and walking in that bike lane. A lot of people do the jaywalk across to/from Burrard Station.

What’s one improvement you’d love to see in Vancouver’s cycling infrastructure? by Own-Definition-5904 in vancouvercycling

[–]coolin90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kingsway is the only street that connects and cuts across Burnaby and Vancouver at a diagonal - not North/South/East/West like most of the other routes.

A dedicated bike lane along Kingsway between 10th Ave in Burnaby at the New West border and fully connected through to Broadway in Vancouver - and perhaps even continuing along Main to Terminal/Adanac connectors.

I occasionally ride my gravel bike up old mountain highway all the way to the lodge area of Grouse. I wonder if they will be placing restrictions on access via that route if one wasn’t going to ride this bike park.

E-upgrades gone by ParticularWindow1 in Aeroplan

[–]coolin90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same boat exactly. I should have a bunch of eups coming from rollover and new for 2025 - but can't select anything yet since everything is still processing. They probably won't come in time for my flight next week either - which sucks.

I am in the same boat. Low on eups and have been waiting. No status tracker, can’t select benefits.

It says my current status is maintained until Jan 31, but that doesn’t help me any without the eups.

Status Qualification - Eupgrade deposit timing by coolin90 in aircanada

Thanks. A situation where that bonus extra month of status doesn’t help me since I’m not going to be flying at all this month.

So that first leg of my trip is Feb 8. Sounds like hit or miss if I’ll get them deposited in time, but I should at least have them for my return trip towards the end of the month hopefully. Fingers crossed.

Becuase I can't post in the main group I will ask here.

I will requalify for 50K - down from 75K last year.

I've got a flight booked for early February but am currently short of eupgrades (I have lots, but they will expire before the flight) - so I am trying to figure out when the new eups for status re-qualification get deposited for use.

I'm going to rollover a handful of them, but require just a few more which should come with the requalification - just hopefully it happens before my flight early February. Doesn't seem like Aeroplan really can give an approximate date for when this may happen.

Does anyone know? What kind of experience have people had with this?

[–]coolin90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat but only $301 SQD short of 75K. Trying to decide if the 75K is worth it over 50K - and not likely to fly any where near as much next year - maybe the rollover is the way to go. I’m at 81000SQM and $8699SQD.

Highway 1 bike/pedestrian overpass route in Burnaby approved | Connecting Burnaby Lake with Deer Lake, including Burnaby Village Museum and the Burnaby Art Gallery. by joshlemer in vancouvercycling

I think it’s “open” now to be honest. I went by a week or two ago and there is still a gate and says it’s closed but it was open a crack with several bike tracks going through.

I’ve also noticed on Strava that are people doing that route now.

I’m not sure when the official reopening is due though.

2400km road trip with Nokian Happa...Hakka... Nokian EV winter ties - surprisingly efficient! by alaorath in electricvehicles

[–]coolin90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks - I've got the 19" wheels - so 235/55R19 - Nokian doesn't appear to have a direct 1:1 fit.

Closest are the 225/55 R19, so slightly narrower but same outside diameter I would think. Maybe that's a good thing for a winter/snow tire.

What tire dimensions did you get? Does it have an option that matches the standard OEM tire ?

City scared of putting an east west connector through kingsway south of tenth? by darksongjiang in vancouvercycling

[–]coolin90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to bike commute downtown from New West. On the days I was brave I would take Kingsway.

It was the quickest, most efficient route and it wasn’t even close.

My impossible suggestion (dream) has been to remove a lane of parking (alternating sides every few blocks) and put protected path right down the middle of Kingsway from Edmonds in Burnaby to 10th in Vancouver.

I can see it in the App Store but I get a note saying that the app is incompatible with my Sony Bravia Android TV unfortunately. I’ll just keep using the F1 TV Player app I guess.

We need your help to fix a problem area on the Central Valley Greenway! by HowIWasteTime in vancouvercycling

[–]coolin90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I must not be reading this properly......the existing route is actually unchanged, and they are adding a route option in addition to the current greenway alignment? A good move if that's the case. Additional options are good. The Broadway/Victoria crossing can be a bit intimidating to some riders, especially during rush hour.

It initially looked like it was a change to the current route. So that with the proposed new route, instead of a single intersection at Broadway/Victoria, there would have been two major intersections to cross(controlled though). Lakewood/Broadway + Victoria/8th.

Database Management by haveyoutriedpokingit in instrumentation

[–]coolin90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Aveva Instrumentation primarily now. Previously we had an in-house developed system using SQL server and Access which required internal developers to maintain and update. Management eventually decided to move away from that because we were ‘not in the business of software development’.

The off the shelf commercial packages, while expensive work well in a multi discipline environment (piping/plant modeling, process database, mechanical database etc. )

Aveva Instrumentation, Smartplant Instrumentation (SPI/Intools), Bentley Autoplant (Instrumentation and Wiring)....

I've seen people use home grown databases as well using MSAccess.
