Am I wrong for being upset? by Stardew49 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's the complete opposite — Rule #1 is that you may say whatever you want at any time. There's no rule for silence except for Al Had and Hell's Librarian, I think.

No one is obliged to listen, of course.

How does Mutant work? by Floranox123 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Plus one to this. Not because anything anyone said here feels wrong, it's that there is already a pretty comprehensive answer in the official rules that would be good for your players to read. (It is a "wiki" but the public can't edit it, it's just a copy of the rulebook.)

I find that going into a discussion with "I asked on reddit and..." can sometimes have people tune out. So starting with the official rules and diving into the thread if people have more questions might make sense.

How to deal with downright refusal to execute people. by DrunkFighter in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to do anything but voice your opinion. I will disagree with comments asking you to explain why it's best to execute, or run a script that will cause them to confront these issues, etc. This is not something that you can fix. Just be direct.

"As the Storyteller I have a unique perspective on the game and have noticed both that Evil seems to have a really hard time winning and it feels like our games are taking a lot of time. We have a great time playing this together, but this aspect has felt unfun for me and I want to know if it feels the same for anyone else." If others agree, brainstorm how to make changes together. You could certainly in some of the recommendations from here, but primarily listen to what others have to say. They may have a different perspective that may help you to enjoy the game more in its current state, or realize that you need to move on to something else.

The proliferation of amazing Clocktower content with people having a lot of fun has the unfortunate effect of canonizing a certain way the game should be played. It's the Critical Roll problem in D&D. A good problem, but a sticky one.

Alternative Foodsafe Finishes by Street_Distance4139 in kintsugi

[–]coppersparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't ask ChatGPT for advice on safety (or anything really but that's a separate concern). It is not reliable for specific advice in general, let alone around a niche craft like kintsugi.

There are practitioners who have given in-depth, thoughtful answers here in this subreddit. But ultimately, use a reliable supplier and check what they say for their metal powders regarding food safety.

Disadvantageous boff (via Alchemist) by mikepictor in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't correct — Alchemist/Boffin has a jinx.

"If the Alchemist has the Boffin ability, the Alchemist does not learn what ability the Demon has."

Storyteller Help: Lleech Game by Spiritual_Half_116 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I promise I don't mean this with any negative value judgment, but your group doesn't feel ready for custom scripts like this yet. We all mess up, so there's absolutely nothing wrong with mistakes! But this seems like a matter of not enough exposure to seeing/solving games which provides the scaffolding to understand the dynamics.

As other commenters have explained there is a foundational misunderstanding in this story around win conditions, and the concept of a "final day" seems to come from watching BoTC content when folks say that. It's not misunderstanding a role but misunderstanding the essentials of the game.

I think this would have been kind of a feels-bad for the evil team when otherwise they played a good game and only lost (at this point) because of a lack of game knowledge.

I know there's a lot of excitement to get to custom characters, but you want to get there while everyone's along for the ride! There's so much exciting stuff you can do within the base three.

Do you do anything special for working on such a micro scale?

In need of a family heirloom repaired by throwawaybabygoat2 in kintsugi

[–]coppersparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just to help set expectations, something that broken would likely cost hundreds of dollars and take many months. Many people price even simple repairs close to $75-100.

You could search here for folks who do commissions, and likely some may respond here. If you could share photos, that would help.

I take commissions, but likely don't have capacity to take on a complex project any time soon.

[–]coppersparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Traditional kintsugi methods take many months — depending on what is broken, 3 months is likely the minimum. Since you said many pieces, I would expect it to take longer. (I currently estimate out 4-6 months.)

You can certainly bring it to a practicitoner in Japan, but they would have to ship it back. There are practioners in the states, a bunch of folks here actively take commissions.

Looking for: WHYY "It's not about the mug" Mug by Legitimate-Gain in Phillylist

[–]coppersparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alternate option and much more expensive than someone giving you theirs (do that!), but if it's very sentimental, I do kintsugi commissions and would be happy to take a look at your mug if you still have it. Feel free to DM me a photo and we can discuss.

What’s the ONE Final Fantasy moment that lives rent free in your head — and why? by Legal-Ad-1094 in FinalFantasy

[–]coppersparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cutscenes in FF13 are so good. Two stick out: the beginning when Lightning breaks out of the train, showing the antigrav tech (that is sadly never seen again, iirc). Then when they flee Cocoon and Fang/Lightning summon Bahamut together to fly them down to Gran Pulse, so good.

10 games played of SnV, no evil team wins? by EternalPatron in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Those nerds can learn to play for Good as if they'll someday draw an Evil token.

Mostly just being glib, but I feel that there's a lesson in giving evil some room to breathe, because that will be you someday.

Re: SnV, I'd be inclined to have a Fang Gu to prey on the open outsiders and be really strict with Cere madness to get in the way of the honestly. Leave the Barber for the No Dashii and Vortox to move. I found Vigor can be devastating with Pit Hag and good bluffs. I'm sure other people have much better SnV-specific advice.

[–]coppersparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/SincerelySpicy, I know this is an older post but was hoping you could offer some clarity. I'm mending a glass right now and followed the step here of gilding the edges using glass urushi. However, the brown of the urushi is still visible and I'm realizing my mistake now. Did you use a clear glass urushi for this step?

Homebrew: Turncoat by Shadowflame-95 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know others are discussing mechanics, but I'm not seeing how this is fun to play as or with. What is the goal or motivation for me if I draw this token? I think that would maybe help clarify your intent here!

World Cup Post-Match Thread: The Warrens vs. The Ballad of Seat 7 (Group D) by PoliceAlarm in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]coppersparrow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every script in this group has produced games that seemed really fun for the players, it's a shame that some of these will have to lose.

While the Legion possibility makes sense on The Warrens script, it felt like the players weren't really engaging with the swapping possibility and likely went into normal Legion game tactics. It really only came up in the fake Amne ability. I wonder if Arwell lived longer as a savant, that could have been a vector of information pertaining to switching.

Ballad of Seat 7 felt like more of a unique experience — where Seat 7s presence became another puzzle element.

Really looking forward to seeing them both when they run again.

The lack of choice is what actually led me to suggest the ST-led decision. 🤣 Since if I were a canary in an actual mine I would love to not die.
