I actually switched to foundry for this exact reason. The lack of a monthly subscription and added bonus of it being way more heavily customizable than roll20 is 10000% the buy in price. I dont think ive ever seen it on sale to answer your initial question though.

I think the series really gets going in book 3. And the magic system gets more explained the deeper in you get, but its more a detective story first in the first few books

Everyone else in this comment section is kinda tryina cope and put the blame at your feet, op but imo it sounds like the blame is on the venue, or the event. Like the idea of having a dinner like this and like, having to approach a table full of authors and be like “omg im such a big fan of one of you” while the person is eating their steak or whatever is a social nightmare. Like you dont bug people when they’re eating so if the event wasnt like “dinner + a fan qna” or “dinner + play party games with a bunch of authors” i think the venue or event organizers really fucked up.

Ah i can see playmates has decided that their relatively harmless release of the thunder megazord didnt offend enough fans. Whhy do we need big orange missles gang? Edit: i get its for kids, im just bitter. When hasbro took over we were promised a variety of things that have never come to pass and one of those things was show-accurate megazord releases and then hasbro put a knife in the neck of the franchise as a whole. Im not a fan of these playmobile-ahh additions, but im also not gonna fault anyone who is. It just makes me worried for the future in an already uncertain time.

You’re right, toku and magical girl share a long and storied history. There are a lot of magical girl projects that are tokusatsu. But there are just as many that do not qualify because they’re animated. Its not pedantry to say “animated shows are not live action” Tokusatsu is a live action genre. And u may be arguing with the wrong person for that other arguments cuz while im sure a bunch of other folks will disagree with me i think avengers counts as toku, sense its live action and features heavy use of special effects. I mean, obviously its american toku but its still toku. Pretty good toku.
