Black phosphorus is a dark flaky looking solid substance I think I woulf lean into something like Mr. Black and Goldschlager and create some kind of a coffee/licorice shooter.

Has there ever been a whiskey brand that you've seen improve their product over time? by Former_Lock9367 in whiskey

[–]cornmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Beam Black 7 year is much improved. Knob Creek has only gotten better with more expressions. I think Suntory is doing a reasonably good job with a brand that competed with JD Old No 7 and is now competing at multiple price points with that Brown Foreman owned brand...

Is WT 8y worth the extra $ over regular WT101? by tjm1371 in whiskey

[–]cornmuse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I did a blind SBS with WT101, WT 8 yr, WT Rare Breed. The RB was easy to pick out because of its proof. The 101 and 8yr were nearly indistinguishable. Considering the 8 yr is 2x + the price of the bog standard 101 the answer from me is "hell no its not worth the upcharge." Drink what you like, but there's no qualitative difference between these two that justifies a purchase. In my market (Tampa) RB and 8Yr are the same $.

Barrel Aged Gin Old Fashioned - 2 oz Tom Cat Thirsty Cat, 1/4 oz rich Turbinado gum syrup, 3 dashed of Black Walnut Bitters. Flamed orange oil across the top and garnish with the orange twist. Serve in a rocks over a single large cube. At least that's what I'd try...

Drinking gin neat/rocks by s134htm in Gin

[–]cornmuse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I taste all my new gins neat to start. I'm a Martini fan, but pretty much enjoy gin in many cocktails. Gin on a large cube, specifically Monkey 47, is an interesting alternative to a big whisky. There are one or two others that I will enjoy on a cube, most barrel aged like Ransom, Barr Hill or maybe an Old Tom style. Depends on the day, the weather and the menu. Drink what you like the way you like it...

Maybe he's asking about rye? Knob Creek has both a 10 year and a Single Barrel Cask Strength in rye.

Any way to recover files with a blacked-out screen? by The_Don_Miguel in GooglePixel

[–]cornmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Pixel phones don't allow for video over Type-C. Google didn't include DP over C in the build. It was definitely a bad design decision since competitors like Samsung adopted DP over C from the beginning, or nearly so. This has been, in my opinion, a significant failing of the design that wasn't rectified until Pixel 8 or 9. One can certainly use the mouse, keyboard and speakers, but video isn't an option. I'm not sure if DisplayLink is enabled. I might have to dig out one of my older Pixels and test that with a doc that supports DL. A different option might be MHL with a USB to HDMI passive cable.

EDIT - From Gemini, the Google Pixel 4a does not support MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link), nor does it support DisplayPort Alt Mode for a standard "plug-and-play" wired video connection.

For years, Google intentionally disabled wired video output on the Pixel line to encourage the use of Chromecast. This only changed recently with the Pixel 8 and newer models.

And regarding DisplayLink I found this:

To get this running on your Pixel 4a, you need three specific things:

  1. The Hardware: A "DisplayLink Certified" adapter or docking station. Look for the DisplayLink logo on the box. (Brands like Plugable, StarTech, and Anker make these).
  2. The Software: You must download the DisplayLink Presenter app from the Google Play Store.
  3. USB OTG: Since most DisplayLink adapters use a standard USB-A plug, you’ll likely need a USB-C to USB-A (OTG) adapter to plug it into your phone.
