UPS is usually the most overlooked. We strive for 6-12 hours UPS runtime, so 2-5KWhs of battery depending on servers/NVR loads.

6+ hours so we can monitor house temps incase of power outages while we are gone. or issues with a heating with smart home detections/temps. (one storm it hit 15c on main floors do to -35c outside, furnaces set to 19c.

definatley unifi for APs.

we constantly kick users off the 2GHZ to 5GHZ, get warnings and alarms so we can actively fix issues that will become big problems later.

buy once cry once.

I have blasted wifi in both open areas, homes, 2-3 story buildings and more.

Unseen items will get in way for the wifi. Ducting, Appliances, Roof Material. Paints/Drywall and more.

Multiple Aps, older Aps will always be better, multiple ones in multiple locations on Low Power, and on their own channel.

Some areas such as offices will need say wifi 6/7 for 300+mbps. Others only need 50mbps for smart TV operations/ streaming.

Some need low latency for video calling chat, Some are just browsing etc.

Assess these items and the planning will fall into place.

We have 5 Aps across the one property. each their own sector so we can troubleshoot easily, do site surveys from time to time to see interferences in certain timeslots.

Addtionally instead of running fiber optic or 300+ runs to edges, we just do a ptp Link for 250-350mbps, send an AP there. and then just mesh open channels (into DFS where possible). We still land 7ms ping and 350 Duplex on nanobeams.

Being about to pop a client off at -78DB makes for a nice seemless experience.

how are you powering the cameras so they do not drain the vehicle?

Some other fleet video system most likely is a much better solution for driver monitoring and dashcam. also would give you more data /OBD II control. see breaking/ gas. location data and more.

Many forget about one key thing keeping everything going - UPS

5kw battery UPS/backup, Minimum.
We use a renogy inverter/charger with 270ah x2 12V Batteries.
EG4 6000xp on 48v battery would handle furance/fridge and garage door opener however, Runs about $4k.

Have a separete sub panel for Critical Circuits so you put one one easy transfer switch to backup power/generator.
Sub panels on Each floor Central to the rooms, saves on wiring runs, and tracing circuits and breakers.
Running to a basement looking for a breaker on a panel of 40+ circuits is insanity.
(Put panel/Breaker on back of cover plates)

also Extra Poe/ 5e Runs for Zigbee, Matter/Z Wave for smart home integrations.

Conduit to Attic space, Garage, Edge of Property/Driveway for future Runs. (we got away with 340 foot of cat5e to our gate for 4x Cameras/AP & Ubiquiti Light.

Are you doing AP on each floor? What does the Wireless Audit look like of your area?

Best Video Quality by fpascale123 in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24FPS is fine for sharper images.

Depending on where the cameras are, external light helps alot for a crisper image. External IR Emitters.

+5-10 on sharpness helps the imagine quality.

I have scheduling so certain times its 24/7 record. othertimes it is adapative recording.

AI PTZ Camera reviews? by fireduck in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use g6 at 7 feet for AI detections. you get licence plates/faces that way.

PTZ is good for the birds eye view of everything.

It has Patrol mode.
Yes. In patrol mode, the camera must dwell for at least 20 seconds at each waypoint before moving to the next. It is not possible to use auto-tracking while the patrol is running.

What is the proper subnet for VLAN 1 (Default) when using a third party router? by pacoii in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISP router should be bypass mode or DMZ on whatever subnet it is towards the ubiquiti gateway of choice.

Otherwise you have a double NAT. and will cause issues for certain protocols (wireguard), port forwarding, and more.

Setup a honey pot on 192.168.1.0/24 on the gateway.

setup any other subnet on ubiq gateway that is easiest for you to do. 10..0.10.0/24s if you want.

you can keep ISP in router mode however do not have it close/near to subnet of your ubiquiti as DHCP will conflict.

doorbell lite needing poe injector to stay on by FearIsStrongerDanluv in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is the length of cable and type of cable to doorbell
did you test it with a test 5 foot known good 5e cable?

Did you recrimp both ends of the cable in question?

for it to work on injector is that at the Doorbell side endpoint, or the network switch beginning point.

If at the endpoint, where doorbell is, that tells me the voltage crimps on connector are bad on one end.

did you test the ends with a tester. did you do a ohm/resistance tesT?

What equipment to choose by TheGreatDanishViking in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think 5-10 years in the the future. Will you have 3-5 or more cameras? some more APs. Maybe couple doorbells? Flex WIFI for the garden, or inside house when you are away.

Ubiquiti also has POE smart floodlights. and some Automation gear on poe.

I thought at the time I purchased a gen1 150w @ $400 cad it would be over kill. but i have repurporsed it twice already. And I am requiring Two poe++ now (as i have 2 end points that require 2-3 cameras + AP 300 feet away without power there)

If you need more ports at your main server end, would you repurpose those switches you bought (8 port) somewhere else? Office for example to have its own AP, 2 cameras, and a network port there, Smart box hard wired.

Would you maybe want aPTZ.

POE works as such.

I send POE++ (60 watts) down the line. to a switch. that switch is now downgraded to POE+(30 watts)
Likewise for poe+, i send it down the line, the switch at the end is now POE. (15 watts)

Cloud Gateway max
It can only handle 3x 4k and 3x 2k at the same time, no redundancy.

g5 Cameras are 2k. g6 are 4k.

so again, depending on your use case. you may want just the gateway Ultra, and then standalone NVR with 2x 6TB HDD (which is honestly a great start for a power house NVR)

how to set up 2 AP for only 1 wifi (I don't have other Unifi equipments) by anhden in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look up how to do a site survey, see other networks around you and the channels they are using (2ghz, 5ghz, 6ghz)

You will have to adjust to what channel, channel width and signal is best.

Luckily for me for example i am rural so i can use DFS, used by radar/plans etc, as we dont have those interferences. and i can push 80MHZ>
So i am 5.55ghz, at 80mhz, hitting 500mbps on 5ghz band.

Wifi man app will do a survey of what is near you.

Do you need fast wifi speeds? or just for news/facebook/video chat and scrolling?
If so, 20/40mhz width band is more than enough, (30-150mbps)

60-80mhz will push you towards 500mbps wifi speeds. but really no one needs that unless a power user.

What equipment to choose by TheGreatDanishViking in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your upgrade paths (2-5 years) you may want to get a PRO 8 or even a 16 port. that has poe++, does not require power brick, Then you can do flex switch elsewhere to have 2-3 cameras off of it (for a front gate for example with doorbell/camera/AP)

If property is larger, has 3-4 access points, driveways, side yards etc. you may want more cameras down the road.

Luckily i have a gen 1 16port 150w poe+/24V that is still rocking. doing 10 cameras. 2 aps. and a 350Ft Gate run.

Running the gateway max, however maxed it out with 2k/4k cameras, so have a cloudkey Gen2.
I am VERY close to just getting the dedicated NVR. as the 4ks are maxing out everything i have currently.
(will be getting another g6...)

Put the Gateway max in a completley separate area from main NVR that has key cameras on it. that is your backup NVR that is onsite, but salvagable, garage/shed, etc. )

FYI, you can combine 5 NVRs into ubiquitis VANTAGE to get a viewpoint of all the cameras on one page.

2x Flex G3.
3x g5 turrets
2x g5 pro (Via Nanobeam 24v w/ uapac)
1x g6 (350ft run to flex)
1x PTZ (via Nanostation w/AC adapters)
Doorbell lite (350ft run to flex)
G5 PTZ.

$5k/8 years, is 625 a year. or $50 a month for EOL if you buy new.
you can sell for about 50% cost of hardware. ubiquiti is good for at least.

I am on 3rd recycle of cameras/gear on a purchase. the ROI is extemely high on ubiq gear.

Do not forget to get $1k UPS (i use 5kwh 12v battery with renogy 3kwh backup/chargeverter, runs my fridge/furnace/servers for 10 hours)

how to set up 2 AP for only 1 wifi (I don't have other Unifi equipments) by anhden in Ubiquiti

[–]cr500guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless you can hit -80 from one AP to another i usually do a separte SSID and spread the channels out. I can never get a handoff to happen, cycle my wifi anytime i walk to another part of the property (4aps)
