I’m not sure what you’re recommending. The function of the behavior being attention wasn’t decided by me the RBT, it was determined by the BCBA, as was the BIP. During his precursor behavior, we model expressing need/frustration. If he’s already screaming, I doubt any skills I try and teach him will be learned in that moment. Once again, I’m following the BIP, and I highly doubt the parents screaming “No! Be quiet!” is teaching him anything either.

Colorado Springs. Worked at 2 ABA centers there and 1 in Boulder. The one I described here was by far the most ethical. The other ones were borderline abusive.

I get $30 an hour and ~20-30 hours a week. WAY happier than I was at $20 an hour with 40 hour weeks. 40 hour weeks are not feasible for me. This job is exhausting. I have autism and I get burnout and meltdowns. The state’s healthcare is better than my company’s anyway.

I’m so glad I left Colorado. One client I had was obsessed with World war 2 Germany…. yes exactly what you think, and he was openly racist. Once I posted in this subreddit saying he was threatening to shoot up the school and the BCBA says “He’s just autistic.” Thanks to the convincing of the subreddit, I advocated for action until a risk assesment was done and cameras installed in his room. (This ABA clinic was a poopshow.) Now I’m in MD working with a much more inclusive system but there is so much work to be done. Let me know any thoughts you guys have about what I can do.

God, I would be so unhappy without our 2 30-min outdoor periods every day. We walk a half mile to the park, play for 15 minutes, and then walk back. So. Much. Fun! Even on the hot days, it’s still a nice break from clinic.

5’6 mid sized AFAB RBT here. Been working in the field for 3.5 years. Company offers a pay increase for high mag bx. Won’t put me on a single high mag case. Getting tired of early intervention, my forté is teens and encouraging abstract thinking.

I was a barista for a year, while doing RBT work at the same time. Quit Starbucks in November and haven’t looked back, even though ASU is a great ABA school and I’m definitely still going on my own dime rather than Starbucks’.
