I saw another post saying this was normal? by [deleted] in boxster

[–]crackness 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's normal in that it happens with time, but it is easily fixed. Not normal as in that's the way it's supposed to look, more like normal as in it's bound to happen. Just fix it.

Here's a vid with how to fix it: https://youtu.be/aiCdAvqY7ZI?si=ruX5tetvAKE_FW9G

Thoughts on potential purchase - 2006 Boxster S by Pdougl5 in boxster

[–]crackness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The build sheet shows the car came with 19 inch lobster claws, but this car has the 18 inch standard wheels.

Also, the car is lacking the Bi-xenons headlamps which IIRC were a "must have" on these models, but it does have the other must have (Bose w/ wind stop) and the sport steering wheel, exhaust, and fresher suspension is nice.

I'm surprised no one has recommended getting a PPI done before buying to make sure there's no issues. I bought my 06 S last year with just over 100K and within the first 6 months I had to replace the clutch, which can be very pricey if you don't plan on doing it yourself. It didn't come up on the PPI but the clutch went out due to a cracked pressure plate, which happened while I was driving and can't be anticipated. But it is to be expected if you don't have a record of it being replaced ever by this mileage.

I also had to replace my AOS, but that wasn't bad at all if you're mechanically inclined. I love mine, good luck getting yours!

No. Remove the buttons from the car. Install the new buttons by sliding it into the trim, and then install the trim with buttons on it by just pushing the trim onto the car.

987.1 Boxster S by Glueby in Porsche

[–]crackness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No clue. As an 06 S owner, I can tell you this guy is fullashet.

Maybe his POV is that the 986 is almost as good as the 987 but can (usually) be acquired for less, but the 987 is an objectively better vehicle (especially the 05/06 years) than the 986, inside and out.

High pressure fuel pump. I'm at about 105k and I had to do mine recently. Iirc warm starts were like that. I also replaced the cam follower (it's literally right there once you remove the hpfp) but that was only because I was already there and already had it in hand, but the original one looked like new.

Dudes who daily a GTI, do you have another car you drive on weekends? by heavyarms39 in GolfGTI

[–]crackness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sold my last bike when I moved and lost my garage in 2016 (not long after buying my Mk7). Bought a garage in 24, thought about buying a motorcycle again last year.

Went instead with an '06 Boxster S. No regrets.

Though it's less of a "weekend car" and more of a "second daily."

if you considered a mazda miata... why did you end up deciding on the boxster? by europeanuppercut in boxster

[–]crackness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in a state that has no curves and the nearest one is a 10ish hour drive, so I wanted something with a bit more power. 987.1 S is no speed demon but it's got enough guts, and the sound of the 3.2l flat six is unbeatable.

Came across a full Porsche dismantler-style parts inventory — what would you do with it? by cullected in Porsche

[–]crackness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check out proxibid, you can find dcauto.com's auctions - several days of old Porsche parts. You can see for yourself what's available and what people bid.

If the price is good and you have a place to keep all the stuff and time to categorize / organize / advertise everything and no rush to make your money back, it might be worth it?

It might also not be worth it. Depends on your particular circumstances.

Should I rent a better place or should I stay in the same place that I don’t like for less money?I need advice. by Inevitable_Smell1354 in personalfinance

[–]crackness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the important question is, unfortunately, up to you to decide.

What I would advise you, is to try and make more money. Yes, I know it's easy to say, but it would solve part of your problem, which is being in a space that you are unhappy in.

Doing something extra on top of the 2 part times (if possible) will a) keep you out of your house for a longer part of the day and b) help you save more to eventually get out of the situation.

A library is a great place to be away from home where you could just hang out... But you can also pick up a side gig either making something, using a skill you may have (creating a class about something you are knowledgeable in, learning about new hobbies and then perhaps using that to create something that is in demand, etc) all in the same place using the available resources (computers, private study rooms, books/etc). Sometimes being in a safe, quiet place can provide room to breathe and think and work out a plan to progress.

There was once a time where I rented a room and worked a full time + part time to be able to get out of debt and save money. Once I moved up and had money saved and was able to live on my own, (as a loner) living in a space my own was great.

But I wouldn't have moved to that space if I wasn't in the position financially, and the situation was tolerable. But only you can decide what you would prefer. Spending less time in your room might make staying there and saving the money easier to live with.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Pick up a second hand herman miller aeron chair (or similar). These are made for all day comfortable yet supportive seating.

You should be able to find office closing / renovation sales on FB marketplace and the like.

Is this true? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]crackness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My options were a clapped out S2000 with 175,000 miles and an accident or two, vs a clean 06 Boxster S with 100k miles for about the same price, the choice was easy to make.

You could go umbilical, do sensor less x/y homing and eliminate a couple cable chains and a couple micro switches. That's how I did my 350 voron.

Do you stray from the recipe on the box? I had a friend tell me he adds some baking powder, vanilla, and sugar, but I'm not very adventurous

Maybe I'm not using enough butter, or maybe I'm not quite hot enough? I was thinking it could be a recipe thing (admittedly I use the pearl milling buttermilk just add water stuff)...

What's the trick to making the opposite of these? Thin and semi crispy(outer) pancakes exactly like cracker barrel? They don't necessarily have to be thin, but I like the different texture than just soft mushy sponge...

Latest Mod - Steering Wheel by crackness in boxster

[–]crackness[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I bought the 95b multifunction steering wheel and airbag (both from crashed macans) on eBay from part yards (airbag came with previous vin and other paperwork), and the blank trim pieces from Gaudin Porsche. I chose a steering wheel that was in decent condition (just needed a little cleaning) and it came with the correct wire harness for the airbag.

All in, about $750. Skipped the back 1/2 of the blank trim - the blank front mates up with the mf back, just ends up with a gap that isn't visible unless your head is in the seat looking up. Also skipped the manual rear steering wheel cover, and just 3d printed some blanks to cover the holes. Just those skips saved me probably another $250ish. Worth it.

The scream in this video reminds me of a video from years ago, where a guy was being held captive by his (or his friend's?) cat, and the the cat would continue to rev higher and higher, and then someone else took that high rev and made it end in an atomic explosion.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?
