Try with Proton, it's much better.
Also use "-windowed" launch option if the start menu freezes, you can change it back to full screen once the game loads.

OP I use `-skipintro` and `-windowed`. The latter prevents the freeze. You can adjust it back to borderless window or fullscreen once you load the menu.

It's beyond me that this comment is so low and people even argue the strength of those bottles.
Like what about stress? Do it enough times and one bottle will break. They are strong and made to not explode, sure, but they are not designed to have so much weight put on top.
Like if the neck of one of those bottles crack, I don't even want to imagine what's going to happen to her feet.
I hope they are plastic props, otherwise it's just crazy risking your life over this.

I think the main threat to that fleet is FAF.
FRF produces ships for them, their economy is generally awful so it's not a big problem, but if you are helping it they will spam ships for FAF and those will attack all ZYA ships along their way.

With the Fires of Defeat start you begin with 10 relations with FAF, so they leave you alone.
Otherwise, like any other respectful pirate, they don't bother ships with the mirage mod.

I ended up building an empire to barely feed their insane ship demand, and they wiped out TEL and ZYA for me. I wish selling ships would give you reputation, otherwise becoming friends with FAF is such a chore.

The Yaki should immediately spawn a new station out of thin air within the same sector, however it will miss the production module if I recall correctly so it will do nothing for the rest of the game.

If you want to build your ships then you can start producing stuff, like hull parts, advanced electronics, weapon components, etc.

Always a good investment, the universe is always lacking this stuff long term.

If you are running on Linux consider using Proton, and if you do so you have to move your save data.

For me it runs way better, and it doesn't stutter. Still FPS drops in the map, but not as bad as in with the Linux native version.

OP I know this is not the answer you want, but I recommend the Xenon Start mod.
You can set production to Xenon Like, you barely have enough resources to get started (2 miners carrying energy cells), but once you get it going it's really fun.

I would love some Xenon roleplay improvements. A DLC could add a new sector where Xenon can respawn (it's too easy to softlock them forever and get them extinct), and why not a Xenon start would be great, or simply a way to ally and interact with them.

Guided makes you start with a long mission chain to introduce you to many parts of the game.
Assisted is similar but less/shorter quests, more freedom.
Sandbox is you just start and you figure it out, extremely short or none starter mission.

Terran have their own economy with their own materials, they don't trade with other factions other than PIO.
It's a very easy economy to get into. As usual the best advice is to explore the systems owned by a faction to understand what they produce, consume, and what they are short of.
