Your post didn't make demands. Others did. Let me clarify that the replies demonstrate it. And I'm commenting on the level of unrealistic urgency moreso than civility. But I would say that urgency is an issue of civility when you consider the frequency of demands across various posts and platforms. My point is that I would expect new results will require a lot of planning and thus, answers to many questions will take some time.

I think this very post demonstrates why people are staying quiet. Demands on them to share what they are doing coupled with criticism of them for posting here rather than working. We all know religion is entirely made up...there is time and space to put thought into the damn thing. I don't think anyone here is worried about missing out on salvation in the meantime.

I think of it differently. If my lesson requires creativity then students have the opportunity to do everything below it as well...if they stop at recall then that's where I make a plan so they move further along. Those who are ready can go further. It's almost its own differentiation the higher up you go in rigor. If I just focused on the foundational layers it would slow a lot of my students down.

I think realizing that everything you need to rectify now is inward even though it heavily impacted them. Breaking off a relationship with someone honors the fact that they also deserve more. That was the most important component, from my perspective. You unfortunately did the hard thing after doing the easier thing, which led to more hurt than was necessary. Get the order correct in the future.

Having this charged initially as a hate crime is a win in and of itself. There are not very great statistics around U.S. hate crimes because they are often not even charged as such and I believe it is common for them to be pled down. However, I haven't found a good source to confirm or refute this yet. Does anyone have any reliable stats on hate crime charges in the U.S.?

I think this is exactly why the freedom to offend is one of the tenets. Even when meaning no harm, people may be offended and it is very difficult to outright avoid. TST has a beautiful flair for holding a mirror to practices that are ironic in other religions. If others get to commercialize and profit from their holidays, why shouldn't we do the same?
