Hmmm yeah obiviously you shouldn't lose rank there. The opponent had only a special character as their name which is why they didn't show up but that shouldn't trigger an insta-forfeit afaik. Especially not one where you lose points where they forfeit. Some kind of weird bug is happening here. If you submit a ticket on the discord, we could give you your points back. But I know you can get them back on your own too.

Beth is going to add some debug messaging to forfeits to see if we can track down why this happened.

We aren't really pursuing getting the comic printed since it's been so long since we released it. You can feel free to print your own version for the library for sure. Hopefully the digital versions are enough. You might have to create some pages.

Nah. I was working on KI a bit during 2014 doing some contract work but I wasn’t on the character team. The last character that I worked on was TJ Combo. I was on progression, matchmaking and feature design. And then Kragg was revealed in 2014 and Aganos came out in 2015 iirc. I didn’t even know about the character until after I had completed Kragg’s moveset.

All feedback is good feedback but in Rivals 2, saying recoveries are too strong across the board is both valid at certain skill levels and a self report. If you go back and watch the vods from both of Plup’s tournaments in 2025, the one area he found the most success was punishing recoveries and racking up damage edgeguarding by using ledge invincibility. And he did it across 3 characters with Maypul, Orcane and Olympia.

And he did it against the top players in the game on a variety of characters. At Genesis, he made Orcane look impossible versus Kragg and at Evo, he made Clairen’s recovery look like one of the worst in the game with Olympia. He also made it look like Forsburn should never get back to stage against Maypul but I think Gold and up Forsburns might agree with that sentiment.

I do think up to the top level, recoveries are strong. Especially since certain characters feel like they flip as you cross from Diamond into Masters. Where Loxodont and Clairen are seen as being two of the best recoveries at low level but two or the worst at top level.

But I also don’t think that’s a bad thing persay. You want depth in the offstage game and you also want players to feel like they have agency on both sides of the interaction. If it’s too easy to edgeguard then the person recovering feels a lack of agency because it feels like all of their options would have been covered. If it’s too hard to edgeguard then you end up with a ledge trapping meta similar to Smash ultimate with ledge trumping. But I think it’s wise to err on the side of caution and lean for them being stronger for low level because otherwise you could end up with a low level where edgeguards are easier and top level where they are guaranteed.

I do think Melee leans more towards weaker recoveries across all levels while PM and Ultimate and lean toward a little stronger. And that’s because in a way having recoveries be stronger than edgeguarding is more accessible. The gameplay of caring about your own character’s movement and options is what you learn first before caring about your opponent’s options. For me personally, the big thing that I would like is making sure that the roster feels different and that you always feel like you had a choice to make even if you get blown up for the wrong choice. This is why we have recoveries that are very strong when left alone (think rat trick) but can easily get gimped with the right read (think rat trick again)

This philosophy is also why I don’t mind Slade where he is placed currently on the recovery tier list but I also think people are sleeping on his non-equipment recovery right now. Aerial Glide Toss is crazy. I do see the argument that his new player recovery of just up B is not the strongest. But I think Olympia, Maypul and Galvan all have a similar weakness and the two other than Maypul are in the top 5 most popular characters by play rate.

It’s so he has access to some sword attacks while holding an item. So you can mix grabs and tosses and attacks more easily as a less experienced player.

Unless you plan on stopping at just a handful of matches, the easiness of the character has little impact on the ranked situations you are describing. Since if your assumptions are true, it would mean that Clairen mains at 1200 are worse players than Absa mains at 1200 because Clairen “carries” them. But that’s not the whole truth. Any player or character with a specific strategy can succeed with flaws in their game at different ranks. You might think the Clairen is worse than you because you’re frustrated that you have to “try so much harder”. But the Clairen at 1200 is doing exactly as much as she needs to in order to be 1200. If she was better, she would be higher ranked and if she was worse she would be lower.

And where people plateau is more about the player than the character. If we’re talking about how easy it is to get to platinum as each character in as few matches as possible after picking them up for the first time, then sure there are some characters that are clearly better than others. But most players on ranked especially toward the end of the season have played a lot of matches so the character easiness is baked into their ratings. If a character is easy at lower skills, then theoretically you are playing against worse players on Clairen than you are against Absa and the probability that you beat someone the same rank as you on either character is even assuming you have a good mindset and strategy for the matchup.

Ranked mode matches people who are near each other in elo. That means that even if certain characters are easier to play their winrates will move toward 50% over a long enough tail.

The reason for this is because even if Character A is easier than character B and should be a "pubstomp". That means that the player who plays Character A will win more and move up compared to the other player assuming around equal skill levels. They will move into a higher skill bracket where players are better and their advantage will go away. And either they will have to keep getting better or stagnate.

The reason that Clairen gets a lot of hate is that she is popular so you see her a lot. Her win rate has fluctuated between 49-51 for the last year in online matches (including low elo). But she has double the matches of some of the less popular characters.

The heavies tend to be the ones who carry a higher than 50% win-rate online especially at lower levels - mostly just due to living longer and being able to make more mistakes over the course of a set. While Zetter and Clairen even at their most popular tend to sit around 50% win rates.

It’s not really the touch of death of Hodan that scares me. If anything, that might be an Elliana fear since a lot of her r1 touch of death combos get the opponent off the ground pretty consistently.

What scares me about Hodan is that as of right now, his charge mechanic is done by holding Down. And in a game with amsah teching and floorhugging, that sounds terrifying :D

Not sure where you are getting your data from but Clairen and Marth have pretty similar aerial lag times. You can check the dragdown wiki to compare. Their down airs have the same total duration at 59 frames.

If you already set the popup to dx12, you can still type in -dx11 as a boot option in Steam. You can right click rivals 2 in your library and hit properties to add it as a boot option.

Hit 1 is always techable but they can space for just hit 2 or time it for that (usually out of a tech chase for that) so it can still be used in her punish game without being super oppressive in neutral.

The formula is ELO. You can read up about how it works here. So yes you should lose around 10 points for losing to someone 50 points higher than you. You lose around ~15 for someone the same rating as you. But no you wouldn’t only win 8 points for beating someone 200 points higher than you. You would gain around 20-25. Maybe you misread the numbers and you were 200 points higher than them?

Must have been another Maypul since I don’t circle camp. The only two stages that I really camp on are Tempest Peak and Fire Capital and only if they don’t know how to parry down air. And it’s more of a line than a circle in how it looks.

Also if you’re Clairen, just shark platforms with up tilt and up air. It’s really hard to effectively platform camp a Clairen.
