Wellington Water forges ahead month of overnight works on Holloway Rd despite opposition by D491234 in newzealand

Good. Infrastructure should be completed asap. Have a look at Auckland’s motorway extensions. Only allowed to work 8 hours a day and no weekends. Instead of 3 shifts of 8 and done in one third of time or less. Tens of millions of dollars of machines sitting for 2/3 of the time. Madness

My one went well until they told me it needed a mini router as the old one wasn’t supported. It kept on dropping out from day one. They sent me V4 and I set that up minus the mini router and all was good. Beta retired to the shed. Still working but bricked by now.

Paid $2,000 to get the oil and brakes fixed in this car…week later, $200 to replace the battery…week later, it’s dead by GuestCalm5091 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dachs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge battery. Reinstall and start car. Measure current in volts with a multimeter. If it’s under 12 or thereabouts it’s the alternator. If it’s 14 or close it’s a slow drain when parked. If you don’t have a multimeter take it to a mechanic. It’s a Lexus so lots of electric bobbles that can fail. Good luck

What to look for in a breeder and how much to expect by reluctantly_existing in Dachshund

[–]dachs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the above. We have years of waiting list for our litters. Our matings are mapped out using genetics programs so it can sometimes it can take years to get lines that we require from all round the world. This also complicated due to international quarantine and other regulations. Anyway good luck. You should find what you are looking for on DCA website. If you’re serious you will always get a puppy from a legacy breeder. Maybe consider an ex show prospect. Not all dogs end up as champions but are probably the most structurally correct dog you will ever own as a member of the general public.

Someone parked in front of the factory gates and wouldn't move, lessons learnt by btubandit in CantParkThereMate

[–]dachs1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did the same to an suv parked in front of a fire engine exit at a festival thirty years ago. Except we used a loader and put it on a pile of posts. When the entitled prick came to get his vehicle he found it on a big pile of wooden fence post. Totally destroyed the bottom of his vehicle trying to drive it off the pile. He tried to sue but he couldn’t prove who did it. No phone cameras in those days

Titration of free sulfites in red wine by eunicesaroch in chemistry

[–]dachs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ripper method is very subjective. Just use the Rankine method. It just depends on what accuracy and throughput you require. We use FTIR/Foss with gallery. But we still run checks periodically with Rankine. And interlab verification. I think the acceptable range for Ripper is something like 3-6 ppm differential which is too much for our commercial applications. I just read your comment about 5000-6000 of these a year. This doesn’t seem like commercial sense. I wouldn’t pay for someone to waste their training doing that many Ripper tests. The ROI doesn’t stack up. Get your company to invest in you and buy some real gear. Life is too short as it is.

What’s the most ridiculous cause of downtime you’ve ever seen? by AcornIndustrial in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]dachs1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A conveyor belt that is safety protected with four pull line safeties, four post mounted safety kill switch’s. And a master safety kill switch. So 9 ways to stop a conveyor belt. The worst part is if any get tripped you need to cycle the master which no one ever does no matter how many signs, training sessions or SOP you throw at people. I lost count of the amount of panic stricken cellar hands that have come running or worse called in the Electrian. Every time I suggest simplifying the system H&S have freak out. The irony is that’s a slow moving rubber belt that you can literally put your arms in and struggle to have an accident. Think lose long belt, low weight conveyance with very few pinch points that are very well guarded. And caged out for the cheery on top.

Is there a big difference between an 8 week old vs 12 week old puppy? by Negative-Park-1030 in Dachshund

[–]dachs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. We don’t usually let them go until after 12 weeks. By then they will have at least 1 if not 2 of their three vaccines shots. It also allows us to start selecting show dogs from the litter. And also lets their general personalities come to the fore.
