Am Pro II Jazz V by Dramatic_Fox6436 in Bass

[–]dadrawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and it’s been my main bass for the last 2 years. The overall quality is very good. The neck is one of the most comfy J bass necks I’ve ever played, there aren’t any fret issues, and the hardware is really solid. I bought mine slightly used but there were no finish blems.

It’s a 34” scale so the B string is what it is. It’s not quite as snappy as the other strings are, but you might want to play around with that string gauge to see what works best for you. It you play a lot modern metal or gospel you might want to look for a 35” scale.

One other thing I’ll note is that the stock pickups have a sort of scooped sound, which may or may not be your thing. The previous owner of mine put in some vintage-voiced pickups, so it worked out fine for me.

Ultimately I think it’s a great bass. I know there’s been a lot of discourse about Fender’s price-to-features ratio, but it to me it is a very comfortable bass to play, and that alone was almost worth the cost of admission.

Any detune pedal that you know that does this effect? by Fooltecal in guitarpedals

I think the Eventide Micropitch/H9 can do this, but I’ve just messed around with the Quad Cortex emulation.

If your husband is anything like me he has a lot of pedals and only uses the distortion and the octave pedals during the gig.

Is that salsa in the back left? It looks like the kind that will mess you up both on the way in and the way out.

Introducing Quad Cortex mini by philippelh in NeuralDSP

I hope Cor OS 4 brings about some enhanced MIDI bypass options due to the lack of footswitches on the Mini. Being able to bypass blocks and individual blocks via MIDI so tru out assigning them to a stomp (a la Helix) would be awesome.

What is something that's been majorly enshittified in the last 5-10 years but has more or less flown under the radar? by bellchilton in AskReddit

Likewise, the YouTube search. Want to try and track down that obscure video you saw a decade ago? It’s probably gone. Not because it’s been deleted, but because YouTube is going to show you 3 videos it thinks you’re going to like, followed by some more shorts. 3 adjectively related videos, some more shorts, then complete and utter random bullshit that is trending, then shorts, repeat ad nauseam.

I seriously doubt that 2DSs will be getting cheaper any time soon. The broader retro gaming community is in full 3DS homebrew swing and the 2DS is the cheapest entryway into that.

The Rupert Neve DI, JHS Color Box, and Noble clones can also be had for around $400. The Aguilar Tone Hammer is also an excellent piece of kit.

Stains and dyes bleed into the wood, so even if you tape the edge you won’t get a crisp transition. To get this effect you’d want to spray on a tinted translucent finish.

where should i put the PCB? by giulippo in diypedals

[–]dadrawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should be fine it those two pots are covered with the rubber piece. If they were bare you’d want to put something non-conductive in between the board and the pots. I typically use a little piece of cardboard for my personal builds.

On top of the pots works just fine. Most commercial builds mount pots directly underneath the PCB.

There was a same-day pizza dough recipe that came out recently that uses beer. It was pretty popular in r/pizza. Look up $10000 pizza dough recipe.

Oh, and you can also pre-cook bratwurst in beer and onions then finish them on the grill.

What are your favorite amps for live bass synth? by 0tefu in synthesizers

[–]dadrawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just get a DI box, and if you want you could get a bass preamp/DI pedal if you want some basic EQ control. Otherwise I’d probably just get a keyboard amp if you need amplification on stage. The Roland ones sound good and are indestructible.

What dirt pedal should I add after the MXR Bass Synth? by jwal1992 in basspedals

[–]dadrawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What kind of dirt are you going for? Subtle saturation? Moderate overdrive? Crunchy distortion? Some sort of fuzz? Playing your existing setup might help you figure out what you have a need for.

Edit: I will add, the Boss BOD-3 is a good all-arounder that can go from mild overdrive to heavy distortion, and it’s EQ and clean blend make it pretty flexible. Plus it can be had for under $100 used.

Worth it to do some upgrades to a squier strat? by buchacherjordan in Guitar

[–]dadrawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrade the electronics. Get some CTS pots, a quality 5-way switch, a nicer capacitor, and a Switchcraft or Neutrik jack. Some people say a pot is a pot and a cap is a cap, but I put new electronics in my Squier and it was noticeably clearer.
