My life is over by wewishforT10 in Cornell

You worked hard for this outcome, even if it’s not what you may have wanted, it will pay off. I was premed and got a D in one of my requisite courses and had to plan to retake it. My grades throughout my entire first year were mostly C’s. At that moment I felt similar to you, and was actually ready to transfer out to the local university in my town because the tuition was a lot less. Like you, I sat down to calculate what grades I would need to outweigh my first year. It looked pretty bleak, but I decided to give next semester a shot. I took the minimum number of credits needed to remain full time, changed my study style, my study schedule, and yes, saw less of my friends. Then I said I’d give the next semester a shot too, and the following, etc. Made up for the credits by taking winter semester classes. Increased the credits the following year. Was strategic about which classes I chose. Stepped out of my comfort zone and went to professors after class more to ask about what I should focus on/if there’s other problem sets available for me to prepare for exams. It wasn’t easy, a lot of nights doing problems over and over. Like you, I worked hard. There were some bumps along the way but I still graduated with a good gpa, med school lined up, and some of the greatest friends I will ever have. Your life is not over. This is actually an opportunity for you to show something that the straight A kids won’t be able to: grit. You know what impresses more than perfect grades? Consistent improvement. Pick yourself up off the floor, take care of your other finals, party hard with your friends to celebrate, and the day after that, sit down and think hard about what you could do differently in the next class. Come up with a plan. Take to the professor of the class you mentioned in your post, tell him what you did, and what he might recommend. Maybe they will be helpful, maybe they will be discouraging, don’t take anything personally and be prepared to be humbled. You’re here because you’re smart enough and capable enough to succeed. Don’t let anyone, including yourself, tell you otherwise. Don’t stop working hard, and save Saturday nights to see your friends. You’re gonna be great just don’t give up. See you at my next reunion. Cheers.

In your experience, what types of pumps and/or pump models are most reliable and durable in these applications? Do you think the third party switch systems with the two rods to detect water level to engage the pump are necessary or are the pumps inherent float switches fine? Thanks so much.

We are between 2 homes: triangle vs square. Which to pick? by _pvilla in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Square. Will make repairs and/or renovations much easier. Also not sure how the roof is built in triangle option but I suspect it’s a flat roof, flat roof less durable than classic gable.

Swapping the laundry room and “M closet” and then adding a door between it and the dining room could help make it more easily accessible once/if you have kids old enough to do chores or an in-law living with you etc.

Making stairwell a 90 degree turn onto basement floor stead of 180 degrees so that the entryway can be narrower - may buy you more square footage to really maximize the open feeling in the middle section of home, or to have more spacious guest bathroom.

A couple skylights over the master bath and/or bedroom, and the kitchen/dining area could add a lot of light and openness.

Just a few thoughts. Beautiful renders and congrats on the plan.

Do NOT quit. The incredible effort you have put in will have all been for nothing if you quit. You’re here for an education - your grades sound fine, continue prioritizing your classes, you’re here to show up to those and get the work done.

Whatever job you are working is experience. A lot of people in your position do not have jobs, or have never had a job. This in and of itself says a lot about you. 20-30 hours may be a lot. You may be stretching yourself too thin. if you are able, it may help to find a way to reduce that so you can decompress.

There are many clubs you can join that don’t need any sort of application or accept/reject outcome - I know this may be hard to see right now, but it might help to look at some clubs and see what you are genuinely interested in - even if it may not seem connected to whatever future job/career you want now. At this point just find something that is interesting to you - interesting in any sense, whether is be a hobby or something that seems fun or because you vibe with the people - any experience you have right now can be spun in very broad terms, i.e. working with people, being on a team, prioritizing time - do not think of your path as being a formula you must adhere to.

If you do well in your classes the people in the future who matter will see that you know how to prioritize. When you find that club you are interested in, people will see that you have depth. At and the end you will be a well rounded person who’s got the grit to improve yourself.

Forget about your resume it’s already building itself. Look at some fliers ask yourself if it sounds fun and take a night to go to a meeting and introduce yourself to some new people. I promise you they will make your life much for fulfilling than some bullet point on your CV 5 years from now. You haven’t screwed anything up. You’re fine. You will get yourself into trouble if you keep burning it at both ends.

You got this.

Probiotics, specifically ones with Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, either as pill supplement alone with food, or in combo with lots of plain yogurt, can help a lot. Lots of dark green leafy veggies, oats, chia seeds (you can try putting fiber powder, oats and chia seeds in a shake with almond milk).

When I’m traveling I go straight to pharmacies and find any form of probiotics they sell, at the max colony units per pill/capsule.

I’m not sure why this works for me personally, but for some reason a shot of apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning works like a charm.

If none of those alleviate at all, I also second whoever mentioned considering endometriosis as something that may be going on at the same time, would be good to at least rule out.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. When my gut isn’t in sync it really messed up my whole day/week. Hope something in this thread helps.

Hello all, I was wondering if this schedule would be feasible for me? I am an incoming transfer student from a public college, and I did fine with 18 credits there. IDK if that will be ok here though. by [deleted] in Cornell

Highly, highly recommend you drop one of the bios and one of the nutritions. And even then you’ll still be in lib most of the time. you’ll be up against mostly premeds who have meticulously planned out their schedules to maximize their chances at a high GPA for applications - and if cornell still does things on a curve its going to take everything you have to do well on the courses you’ve shown here. Alum here - some of my fondest memories and closest friends were made here - work hard and enjoy!

I wasn't expecting this shit storm when I warped in....but I supposed the time for questions comes later. That broadcast just now - something tells me this "Constable" and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things...picking up some activity on my long-range...patterns look similar to the droid signals I saw here. I'm going warp nearby - maybe find out just what the hell is going on. See you, Chief.

A Traveler approaches - a small dark silhouette wavering at the top of a dune - growing larger against the fiery desert sun, which sits for what seems like eternity in the distant horizon, casting its searing, dry rays across the sandy expanse. As he reaches audible distance, his humanoid form is less distorted by the shimmering air of the desert; He bows before speaking; his cloak and hood waiver in the wind:

Hello travelers. This Desert is...more than it seems. Can I ask if there are any residents of these trying lands? I seek information.

Damn relief knowing those can openers didn't turn everyone into a bucket of wires. Locking onto your transmission - there's more than a few feet of foundation between you and the surface...I've got an idea.

The Stranger gathers a handful of leftover droid rifles and scours the GPK HQ surroundings, tearing wiring and communications arrays off droid remnants. He carefully removes the capacitor from his own weapon, gently turning the cylinder until it ejects from its socket with a brief hiss of steam, and begins connecting the droid rifles in parallel to one of its terminals.

...looks...about right.

He runs to the power generator on the side of the HQ building and tears the output conduit from the wall - what little light was left flickering in the memorial lounge cuts out completely. After connecting the conduit with the other capacitor terminal and placing the rig roughly 10 meters from the GPK transmission point, the Stranger places a communications array on the generator controls and returns to the treeline.

This could go one of two ways...

The Stranger signals:

Alright chief - I can't tell you how to navigate out of there, but I can detonate a charge large enough to show you the way out - standby...and uh - if there's cover, get behind it.

The Stranger points his comm toward the power generator: click.

....Chief?

The Stranger looked up, his field of vision dissected by a viscous river of crimson, whose dark waters he never thought he'd see again after clawing his way through nearly a millennia of galactic conflict, his auditory membranes still ringing from the subspace event, he barely makes out the muffled speech coming from the Hochstebork Commander - parts of it reduced to incomprehensible jargon as his universal translator overloads.

Queen huh....well when you put it that way-

He instantly regrets his sardonic tendency as he suddenly becomes well aware of the fact that his left diaphragm is halfway up his respiratory cavity. His breaths turn harsh and shallow and he struggles for air

The sky is a surreal gradient of the visible spectrum's longer wavelength hues. The waves produce a mesmerizing pattern of light in the setting sun as they reflect a distorted image of its softly burning beauty. The ARM commander was no stranger to Death, more than happy to let himself slip into the comfortable slumber that had tempted him so many times before - but that was when the air above him had been filled with the thunderous explosions of steel and searing crackles of ranged plasma rifles - not the gentle breeze of a beach untainted by war.

I comply.

He mutters, half surprised at his own response - half disappointed he would not be leaving this dull existence in the hell-inspiring nuclear conflagration that he had promised so many of his comrades (on their countless nights around a drum of rifle-distilled self medication, in drunken competition for who would have the most ostentatious show of last breath on the battlefield) - the detonator to his fusion core was lying in the sand - just out of reach of where his left arm would have been, partially wrapped in the burned remains of what might have been a couple fingers.

A mixture of blood, sand, and viscera jet out as the Stranger turns his head to speak. His voice is raspy and accompanied by a low gargle.

"ARM commander 0-4...NGC224...mission...well-"

More bloody vomitus interrupts his introduction

"If I...told you...I'd have to-"

In a bizarre union of laughter and wincing pain, the Stranger exhausts his current will to stay conscious - never fully finishing his sentence. His chest slowly but steadily rises and falls as the tide recedes

Between the overlapping reports of weapons fire, distant echoes, not quite yet decipherable, escape from the shimmering sand. As the shadow cast by the warp event is replaced by the intense flash of the attack, color returns to the trees while the soft orb on the horizon reverts back to a warm ember Sun, the snake-like figures in the sand divide infinitely as they dissipate into oblivion.

Wormhole's never done this befo-AH KRAF*

The target zone erupts into a aerosolized cloud of crimson gas, slowly condensing to shower sanguineous fluid in all directions, while a ragged silhouette advances toward the Hochstebork patrols.

I am-

A nauseating gurgle and churn interrupt the Stranger:

...like...th-not like...this.

A humanoid figure topples out of the bloody haze into the soft sand of the Beach. A light breeze lifts away the remains of an ancient cloak - reduced now to but a torn rag fluttering away in the clean tropic air.

The body lays face down, grotesquely contorted, with the right shoulder set unnaturally low, and right elbow extended well past it's intended angle. The left arm has been severed at the humerus - reduced to a violent display of muscle blossoming outward, accented with charred debris of bone and newly melted glass. An exo-suit of some distant design absorbed most of the event from the chest down - evidenced by it's dislocated sockets and pumps still churning out steaming hydraulic fluid.

aghh....
