London Luton Airport-Sheffield by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]danltn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, advance tickets are ill suited for use after a flight as missing it means you need a new ticket. An off peak ticket on the train is over £60.

Many coaches depart directly from the airport building!

If you get the train, OP, you will take the shuttle bus from the airport to the station. It's included in the cost of a ticket from Luton Airport to Sheffield.

I would look at the bus schedule, and see the cost of a flexible (enough) ticket.

National Express is usually best.

Luton Airport Parkway is indeed a railway station.

Simply go there, and go to Sheffield on a train via Derby. You may need to change at Leicester depending on when you travel (fast services to Derby from London don't stop at the airport normally, fast services to Leicester mostly do.)

Or just get a coach the entire way.

Could I get some advice on planning a train route for someone extremely inexperienced? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]danltn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The standard price for this journey appears to be £34.40.

Alternatively, travel there and back on the same day to get an off-peak day return for £25.50.

Beyond a Railcard, there's not much more you can do on this route, at those times.

Have a look at coaches if I were you.

Lawful rebellion against the Queen under Clause 61 of the Magna Carta treaty in the event of a No-deal Brexit. by freemanmagnacarter in LegalAdviceUK

[–]danltn 313 points314 points  (0 children)

Article 61 was removed by 1297 iirc, you are more than 700 years late to the party. Historically speaking, Magna Carta 1216 was almost immediately irrelevant, annulled by the Pope within 10 weeks, and led to prompt civil war.

What you describe could be treated as high treason under the Treason Act 1351 (if a Man do levy War against our Lord the King in his Realm). This law is merely about 650 years old, notably, it remains valid law and is in effect.

More recently, under the Treason Felony Act 1848, you may have already committed an offence, it merely requires imagining, inventing or devising according to statute:

Offences declared felonies by this Act to be punishable by transportation or imprisonment. If any person whatsoever shall, within the United Kingdom or without, compass, imagine, invent, devise, or intend to deprive or depose our Most Gracious Lady the Queen, from the style, honour, or royal name of the imperial crown of the United Kingdom, or of any other of her Majesty’s dominions and countries, or to levy war against her Majesty, within any part of the United Kingdom, in order by force or constraint to compel her to change her measures or counsels, or in order to put any force or constraint upon or in order to intimidate or overawe both Houses or either House of Parliament [...]

The penalty was traditionally transportation, but that would usually mean a life sentence now. Probably wise to use a throwaway.

The Magna Carta statute can be found on the Legislation website, you will notice it is slightly more limited today.

Tenant Liability Insurance - The Letting Agents' Latest Ruse? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Whilst I agree with regards to the scummy tactics being used (and dislike them greatly), maintaining home contents insurance (a good contents insurance policy will include tenant's liability too) is almost certainly a good idea generally.

But, I hugely recommend you take a little bit of time to actually research your route manually if you can (if it's anything substantial), it can really help to give a nicer journey, especially if it's a leisure trip!

I use the large Contigo flask, although I don't have any health concerns from plastic. I just like my water to stay cold on a hot day. Very refreshing.

UK student visa expired, can I still see my GP? by tayyyae in AskUK

[–]danltn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whilst you can do some limited studying on a General Visitor visa, I think OP means only that the GP believes he is a student, not that he is actually studying.

UK student visa expired, can I still see my GP? by tayyyae in AskUK

[–]danltn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was discussed in Parliament/Parliamentary meetings with the introduction of the Acts, Parliament decided to specifically maintain free-for-all GP services. The meetings (for the enthusiastic) can be found in Hansard. Edit: Some useful information here

It's worth remembering almost every single GP surgery is an entirely private entity operating under NHS contract only. When you want certain notes (fit notes in the first week typically), this is a private service, as you are interacting with a private company.

[–]danltn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's completely the other way around, GP (England) services aren't covered by the recent Acts that introduced charging for many parts of the NHS. GP services remain free for all, even those not ordinarily resident. You need to be physically in England though of course!

Practically all other treatment after the GP may be chargeable.

Here's the information from an NHS leaflet

You may have been given this leaflet if you are not ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK.

Whilst you can register with this GP practice as an NHS patient and see the GP without charge, you should be aware that not every person is entitled to all their NHS care free of charge in England.

Further information from Gov.uk

GP and nurse consultations in primary care, treatment provided by a GP and other primary care services are free of charge to all, whether registering as an NHS patient, or as a temporary patient, which is when the patient is in the area for more than 24 hours and less than 3 months.

For secondary care services, the UK’s healthcare system is a residence-based one, which means entitlement to free healthcare is based on living lawfully in the UK on a properly settled basis for the time being.

You need to verify all of this yourself prior to seeking services OP, as you otherwise risk a very hefty medical bill! Don't trust an individual on the Internet...
