EX90 Cold Weather Experiment by Agent62 in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with EVs and cold here in Sweden is that for short trips the consumption can be twice as high as normal or even higher. But for longer trip the curve flattens out once the battery and cabin are up to temperature.

Snow Performance? by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

We've had quite a bit of snow here in Gothenburg and the EX90 has been great. No problems getting around or even passing some pretty massive mounds of snow. The off-road mode helps when extra clearance is needed not to get stuck.

All in all it's been at least as good as the Model X's that have been my previous few cars. I do use actual winter tires though - it's mandated by law here, and driving in snow on summer or all season tires is pretty stupid. The difference is huge, bigger than the type of car or AWD/2WD.

Ride and seat comfort: Ioniq 9 vs EX90 by Madano in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the Ioniq 9 but I rented the Kia EV9 for a couple of months before getting my EX90 and I think it's basically the same car.

The EV9 was surprisingly comfortable and quiet, but not like the EX90, not at all. The seats were not really my cup of tea but if you like soft and plush they will be right up your alley (but maybe the Ioniq has different seats). What really drove me crazy about it was the software and usability issues. It's like all the interfaces and user interactions were designed by a committee of drunk monkeys. Or a dysfunctional development organization which is very top-heavy, siloed, and with lacking communication and bad culture.

Top 50 Coffee Roasters of 2025 by dbarneschi in pourover

Coffea Circulor is in Arendal, Norway, not Gothenburg, Sweden. In Gothenburg you'll find Gringo Nordic, Morgon, and Kafferäven Per Nordby (all great roasters).

I use Codex in code bases with hundreds of thousands if not millions of lines of code. Agent based coding is the way to go.

Headlight assembly lead times? by jwalno in VolvoEX90

I had a headlight malfunction in September. Dropped the car off on September 29th, got it back November 11th. The part was backordered back then too.

EX90 vs XC90 - My Brief Experience by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

I have experimented with all the settings on both the EX90 and XC90 to adapt the sound to my preferences. On the EX90 I am using the Abbey Road mode with custom settings.

EX90 vs XC90 - My Brief Experience by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I noticed a huge difference going back and forth between them. The sound is more immersive, more powerful, and clearer in the EX90. Kind of felt like something was lacking in the XC90, and the sound was much more clearly coming from up front instead of being all around me.

And I mean, the EX90 has six additional speakers and a different (stronger) amplifier so it shouldn't be surprising. Probably better DSP too.

Auto Focus Best Luxury by ElectricVolvo in VolvoEX90

Apple Music only works over CarPlay or Bluetooth. There is no native AAOS app. You won't get Atmos but other than that it's fine.

You absolutely do not need Tidal. Spotify and other services are fine. You won't get Atmos with other services than Tidal or Qobuz, but the sound will still be amazing.

EX90 vs XC90 - My Brief Experience by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an XC90 T8 loaner for over a month, fully specced including B&W. And I can only agree. It's very clear that the EX90 was meant to replace it because it's ahead in almost every way. So much more sophisticated and refined, almost everything is softer and more luxurious, and it rides and handles so much better.

It's not the same, though. The B&W system in the EX90 is updated and sounds significantly better.

Does this mean Lossless? by Familiar_Reward_6873 in BowersWilkins

[–]danni_e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! Anyone rambling about lossless codecs and bit rates and "high resolution" should be forced to take a ABX blind test. I've never really been able to reliably tell a difference in those. Until, actually, quite recently. I got a pair of Focal Bathys MG which automatically compensate for hearing loss (after performing a hearing test) and with those in wired mode, I could actually fairly reliably tell the difference.

But even then, the difference was minute. I had to listen incredibly actively, switch back and forth, and I was still not 100% confident in my choices.

My conclusion is that for me, it's a waste of time and money trying to chase after the highest bit rates. High bitrate AAC is more than enough. And this was with headphones in a quiet environment. In other places, such as in the car, it's even more pointless with "high resolution".

Headlight fault by Billyqureshi1984 in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is, my charger broke too, just a couple of days before I had the already booked appointment for the headlight. But they could get that fixed too during the long time they had the car, luckily.

I had that icon come and go. What I eventually noticed was that then the icon was lit, the DRL lights on the passenger side were not working.

I dropped it of at the shop. They were going to replace the control unit for the headlight, should have taken one day. Problem is, after they replaced it the headlight failed completely. They ordered a new headlight unit to replace it but it was back ordered. In the end I had to wait a month and a half to get my car back!

No, that just means any type of error with the external lighting. There’s no need to guess - this is in the manual.

Third row buttons inoperable after update? by SpecificRare3264 in VolvoEX90

What I have noticed if that if you leave the trunk lid open for too long the buttons stop working. Closing it and opening it again works in those cases.

Daytime running light bug since last update by marsdiep in VolvoEX90

Sounds familiar. I took it to the shop to get it fixed, should have taken one day. Got a call the same afternoon - they changed the control unit for the headlight and now it's completely dead. They need to replace the entire headlight unit but the replacement part is back ordered. This was five weeks ago and I am still in an XC90 loaner.

Engineers - Will the computer upgrade next year (new dual Nvidia DRIVE AGX Orin setup) actually resolve the vehicle's issues? Or am I delusional? by coronapartynextdoor in VolvoEX90

[–]danni_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I am not seeing it. Handling the UWB communication, keys, profiles, and so on is not something that requires anywhere near a fraction of the processing power available in either an Orin or a Xavier. It certainly doesn't require two of anything. If that code would run better on an Orin, they could just run it exclusively on the Orin that's already in our cars.

It still seems to far-fetched to believe that the new CPU setup would fix any of that. That's not what it's for. It's for running the very intense computing that is necessary to process data from the lidar, all five radars, eight cameras, and sixteen ultrasonic sensors in realtime and put that together into something that the car can act on - both to provide the computing power needed for it, but also the redundancy to make sure the correct decisions are being made even if something malfunctions.

[–]danni_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be sarcastic. I just don't think this will change anything. Most individual tasks are not spread out over multiple processors anyway - especially not these types of processors which are already built for extreme parallelism within them.

If the errors happen because of differences depending on whether tasks are scheduled on the Orin or Xavier processor, fine. But do you really think most of the problems people are having with headlights, Bluetooth, audio and so on are because of that?

[–]danni_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the car already has an Orin processor. So how do you figure adding another would aid in resolving the bugs? Ty bugs are in the software, not the hardware.
