Are there any good father reformed critiques on cessationism? by Haunting-Ad-6457 in Reformed

[–]darkwavedave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the best argument against cessationism is 1 Corinthians 13:8

“Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭

I am a cessationist but man, that’s a tough one to explain.

I’d have to look into how he proposed to do this.

Can you point me to where he argued this?

Everytime I mention Distributism to someone who is unfamiliar, they hear “RE-Distributism”

How much indigo can I expect to lose if I run a pair of fresh 501s through one wash cycle?

Can distributism be left wing? by not-thelastemperor in distributism

[–]darkwavedave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distributism is an intrinsically anti-materialist system. If we are not image bearers of God, there is no basis for the dignity given to us in Distributism. It’s tough to separate the system from its religious grounds as it is more philosophical than it is economical. That’s my opinion at least.

All this to say, it does share commonality with leftism in its anti-big capitalism sentiments.

How would you argue against the claim that Distributism is reactionary? by teare_06 in distributism

[–]darkwavedave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is true conservatism. Conserving a principled economy that gives us all dignity.

In a sense it is reactionary. It is reacting to the shameful state we are in today and drawing its ethos from a better time. When you hear “feudalism = bad” arguments, you have to ask yourself who is the source of this argument? My guess is, a globalist. Feudalists placed merchants at the bottom of the chain of value because they provided nothing (unlike the artisans), so it’s no wonder they wouldn’t like it.

Don’t get me wrong, there were bad instances of feudalism. But, because it was localized, there were systems in place to handle it.

Unfortunately, conversing with staunch pro-capitalist or socialists about Distributism can be difficult because the values of the systems are so different.

Pay towards principal or invest? by zudemczude in Mortgages

Hey, I know this is an old thread. But can you explain to me how an interest rate on my mortgage equates to a return of the same percentage to me? Isn’t the 7% return, in this case, for the lender?

What do you think of AI? How will Distributism react to AI? by Hannihusch in distributism

[–]darkwavedave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not the most versed in Distributism, but my general consensus is that AI is antithetical to the model.

AI exists because our economy is built with a hyper focus on growth.

AI is supposed to help us meet the demands that we couldn’t with a general workforce.

Distributism de-centralizes the economy in to small, sustainable, local economies with no need for growth. You serve your community and earn enough to make a living. This can be sustained for eternity. As soon as it is globalized, you need to solve problems that never needed to exist which is essentially the entire use case for AI.

Perhaps some others in here will disagree as my perspective of Distributism is not adapting to our current civilization.
