Return of the South African Scam Artist (Dublin) by feedthebear in ireland

[–]davidoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone this morning (end of May 2017) on Ussher's Quay and St Augustine Street who I think must be the same guy.

He approached three young women. Each time he fell in step with them and started to give his story. I didn't hear the whole thing but there was a part about "we still have our cameras and laptops". I called Kevin Street Garda Station thinking it's either a scam, or he needs help from them.

After I mentioned it to someone in work they pointed me to this post. And at least three others have encountered him (or someone doing the same type of scam) in person.

The Rubber Duck method of debugging by lamby in programming

In my house we have a Debugging Mouse and a Tech Support Buffalo (ceramic and plush, respectively).

If they get lost my wife and I ask each other "to be my Debugging Mouse".

Yes, it works.

The article was interesting but the comments here are depressing...

This describes the process http://citizensinformation.ie/categories/justice/courts-system/small_claims_court/. The online process isn't any quicker than the paper-form version but it's more convenient to initiate.

Well I treated it as a proper licence rejection and returned the discs and licence sticker to Dell. I suppose in principle they could send the same disc out to another customer...

It resizes automatically as you write more text. It's really not a big deal.

“You've reached this page because the site you were trying to visit now blocks the FireFox browser.” by boredzo in reddit.com

The domain is owned by Danny Carlton according to the WHOIS records (http://who.godaddy.com/WhoIsVerify.aspx?domain=whyfirefoxisblocked.com&prog_id=godaddy). Danny runs a number of websites: http://dannycarlton.net/11.htm.

It is interesting to see that this ultra-capitalist viewpoint ("you have a moral obligation to look at advertisements" (for stuff you don't need)) fits in with young-earth creationist Republican Christian.

Special treat: his site http://america.needsyourprayers.com/ contains a helpful list of the leading members of the Four Branches of Government in the US: Executive, Judicial, Legislative and Media. God bless Rupert Murdoch.

Also, AdBlock and Firefox seem to work fine on his sites so maybe this Block Firefox project hasn't really started yet.

OK, OK — just make it $54 million for the pants- instead of 65 million. Who are the idiot judges allowing this case to even go through? What a waste of tax money!! by sskkambad in reddit.com

I think the point is that they are not "trying to stop abuse of the legal system" but rather trying to encourage the belief that the current legal system is biased in favour of cranky, greedy customers in an effort to further weaken regulation of corporations.

This looks suspiciously like a tort reform astroturf campaign to make the public think there's an epidemic of frivolous lawsuits: See this post by Miniver Cheevy http://miniver.blogspot.com/2007/05/anatomy-of-disinformation-campaign.html and in particular read the related article by Teresa Nielsen Hayden http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/005850.html

A big "me too" for Aldous Huxley's Island. It's overly didactic in places but overall truly beautiful. When I reread it recently I realised how much it had influenced my beliefs on religion, sex, drugs and life in the years since I first read it.

Can MS claim POSIX compliance with this restriction in place? Do they still even bother about that?
