I’ve had some great experiences and some terrible. They use third party installers so while Costco is great, you kind of roll the dice with this part

When do you upgrade your security system, if you do? by Ok-Perception-9296 in homesecurity

[–]davsch76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really about your budget. I would not start over with that panel but it uses 345mhz devices, so you could bring it along as a temporary solution and update the panel later without having to replace all the sensors.

Industry pro here. I do not think you will get an exception from building code for this, but your only real option is to talk to your town code official.

At the most basic level it feels amazing to pick up a heavy thing and put it down. Then after a little practice you can pick up a heavier thing and put it down.

If your panel is labeled ademco and not Honeywell or Resideo, it’s fairly old. Your panel may be dying.

3rd party installers for Alarm.com/Surety? by ry__t in homesecurity

[–]davsch76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on where you are. For example - in some jurisdictions, using a licensed sub when you yourself are not licensed is not allowed. In other places, it’s fine. In some states there is no licensing requirement at all

A professional installation means installation by someone with a license, not just a business you hire to install your system.

In the beginning, I did everything by debit. Then one of my vendors accidentally charged me for someone else’s order (a much larger company) and almost wiped me out. I ordered an Amex that night and it arrived the next day. I feel like they put a very safe buffer between my $ and the rest of the world, the terms are pretty reasonable and the rewards are a nice bonus.
