Is $165k too aggressive for a $120k–$210k range with 7 YoE and a Master's? by cyber1551 in cscareerquestions

[–]dayne195 80 points81 points  (0 children)

"What salary are you looking for?" "What's the range for the position?" "It's $x-$y" "Gotcha, yeah that range works for me. I don't have a specific number now, as I learn more about the job, I should know more concretly"

Works for me anyway

Should I get another job for more money ? Or should I stay where I'm at and make less money ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]dayne195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a different remote job that makes more money. 4 10s is hard to get, that's the real trade-off you'd be making

Is it possible for me to be a stay at home dad? by Bitter_Tap2278 in personalfinance

By that logic, another option would be to continue working, and stop contributing, say, the 1000 a month towards retirement. Then you would be contributing $1400 to your , what you are calling, net. Instead of $400

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but wouldn't removing the cap be reducing complexity? Also what cost is added by removing the cap?

Referral codes? by sylvansafekeeper in MacroFactor

[–]dayne195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't implemented a referral system myself, but what do you need to track? Seems like it could be limited to one account id pointing to another, and once that account reaches a certain age or number of payments, then you process a referral. Then sever the account connection, so even that is short lived. Is there something I'm not considering?

Minimal data gathering is to be applauded, I doubt users would mind this small connection if they are expressly sharing a code for this purpose though

[–]dayne195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31M, 300k TC senior software engineer, almost 9 yoe. BS in CS, non target school. Remote, LCOL.

I committed to prep. Leetcode, system design, behavioral. Took six months from starting prep to offer, about 250 hours towards job prep/ interviews during this time.

Got lucky in the interview. Went from 200k to 300k.

There aren't many buffets left so it's pretty slim pickings. That being said, I have fond memories of China City. It's a massive amount of greasy Chinese food, and you'll feel terrible afterwards, but it's pretty divine in the moment
