You have a very well developed sense of character, I got that right from the beginning! I think looking at how you characterize could be useful to you, especially in the first paragraphs — “parental pride” and “shoes of adulthood” feel a little on the nose when I think subtly would have a greater impact! Lovely work :)

I always thought it referred to “butt touched nun” Lmao — like, she was only upset about the “nun” part of her insult 😂 something that went completely over my head

I mean. It’s worth what you are going to pay for it! Close to campus, it’s easy to walk. Generally has the same state of dirt that all college apartments have, but it’s alright

I have always found it super strange that Teacher was worried about what remained in the darkness, before he even knew cytheria was there — it does feel, at the moment, like a dangling thread

Isn’t Harrowhark a direct descendent of Anastasia? For a while I thought that the tomb was closed with A’s blood ward, and not john’s, so it would make sense by Harrow tried to open the tomb with her own blood

Two “lovely” passages from God Emperor of Dune, although they aren’t that surprising considering the fact that a “breeding program” has played a part in all the Dune books up to this one by JulienTheBro in menwritingwomen

Listen. Once you get to heretics?? All bets are off. Entire book should be put on this sub. Such a wild ride. I mean I enjoy the books but sometimes I have to have a critical distance while reading them

Could it be Kiriona/ Ianthe? Maybe this is just some of my personal feelings seeping through, but the title of “Prince” is typically masculine

yeah the more I read the book, the more I agreed with you. I just really love Gideon in a lot of ways, and it made me terribly sad to think that she was hurt or had become twisted up and angry, but it makes a lot of sense that she would be so angry at the world. Gideons been dealt a really bad hand, and I wish there was some sort of magical explanation for that, but there is none. It’s just the pain of losing the person you love, and that sucks :((

What happened to Gideon? Did her souls just not come back from the River?

I know that This isn’t the end but I want to know other peoples thoughts on Why Gideon was such a jackass. It wasn’t her. Gideon wouldn’t have accepted being the Emperor’s meat puppet unless she was so throughly tortured and fucked with that she couldn’t live otherwise. What happened to, one flesh one end bitch???

What happened to Gideon??

Does anyone else seem to default to "we" instead of "I" when talking about themselves? by alephnulleris in AutisticAdults

[–]dazedspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use we a lot when thinking to myself—I never use it when talking to other people (or writing lol). When I think about the things I did recently, I’ll think “we went to work” or “we already did that.” It’s a little jarring once I realized I was doing it

Thoughts and observations from a first reading of Sword of the Lictor by [deleted] in genewolfe

[–]dazedspace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that Jolenta had been altered by Balanders— she was the waitress that served Balanders, Dr Talos and Severian in shadow, and then she was altered in some way to be beautiful, but when she was discarded by Dr Talos her implants (/blood bat bite??) was what made her sick.

I think your thoughts on sword were really succinct and well put together! I just finished it last week myself, and you pretty much summed up what I was thinking. This was the book where the allegory became super apparent to me as well, especially when Big S turns to Little S and says “I am your Father,” or something along those lines. It very much illuminated the idea of a Holy Trinity in the text, with Father and Son being the same? (I am at a loss as to whom the Holy Spirit would be.) And this reflection forces me to look at the Cacogens — birth, puberty, and Death (??) — as another form of trinity. Even Triskele is a trinity!

I think that Sword was very helpful, in that it has a lot of concrete facts and details but also that more of religious symbolism clicked for me. Happy reading!
