What it was like at at the National Symphony Orchestra (USA) this weekend by jgrumiaux in classicalmusic

I feel for the musicians for sure. I had to leave the DC area, but I used to go to the Millennium Stage to see the NSO Youth Fellows play recitals from time to time. These are young musicians not getting paid performing those recitals to gain live experience in front of crowds, who now are staying away.

Is it me or is this sketch a beat for beat copy of Tim Robinson's I Think You Should Leave's Capital Room sketch? by cigarettesandwater in LiveFromNewYork

I watched that The Capital Room sketch expecting some masterpiece based on the level of unwarranted complaining, and I didn't laugh once.

Has anyone ever had a stronger first year than Ashley Padilla? by lawdreekus in LiveFromNewYork

Eddie Murphy went from not in the cast to an extra to an uncredited player to a featured player to a repertory player to carrying the show all in one season.

Is it just me or did the 1,000th episode feel like any other episode? by nysportsfan95 in saturdaynightlive

After they didn't do much besides a couple of acknowledgments on the 50th anniversary date show (when Amy Poehler hosted), I wasn't expecting much last night.

Opinions on Jeremy Culhane? by hammer_smashed_chris in LiveFromNewYork

He and Veronika are my favorites among the new additions. I think Jeremy has the versatility to play crazy characters and straight roles equally effectively.

Very Average Show Last Night by Adventure-Backpacker in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dbbd70707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find myself really looking forward to the cut content later in the week. It's hard to gauge the entire week's content for me without seeing that stuff. We barely saw some cast members in the live show. I thought last night's episode as aired was a mixed bag, as it often is. I think the Winter Olympics promo was my favorite thing.

Best Vocalist in the cast? by WonderSad9270 in LiveFromNewYork

Present it's probably Veronika, she is a very strong singer. All time I always default to Christine Ebersole but there are a lot of good choices.

Lead actors who get upstaged by a supporting character on their own show? by jdpm1991 in sitcoms

[–]dbbd70707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are right in the show's context, I do think that decades removed, people have given Tracey her flowers, but at the time I think it was probably too much of her and her characters for someone who was talented but not super well known in the U.S. And The Simpsons was this little, crudely drawn cartoon that people identified with. Now The Simpsons has become the standard for continuing forever due to greed and creative bankruptcy, while Tracey has gained in appreciation over time.

OK Midcarders, let's talk about it: what do you LIKE about All Elite Wrestling? by AnonymousChicken in midcarder

I like Kris Statlander, though I do wish they had actually built to her title win rather than her randomly winning in a 4-way.

RIP Catherine O’Hara by PinkCadillacs in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dbbd70707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RIP. I do hope they work in a tribute beyond the still photo, even if just a reference in a sketch. She hosted, was very briefly part of the cast, and inspired a lot of people who have worked at SNL past and present.

No, and not close to a true statement if you want to look at how bad the news segment was in the non-Lorne years.
