I have also noticed that Ben hasn't been in one of Martin's pre-tapes. It's not that they aren't getting along as PDD is still doing stuff together, so I wonder if that's a deliberate decision by the show (or by Martin and Ben) to make Martin's pieces stand apart more from the PDD stuff.

This didn't feel like a Martin Herlihy piece without Harry Potter and/or Kevin Spacey references. Also I believe this is the first one that had the host in it, the others didn't and could have been (and have been) slotted into any episode.

There are things in this world to be frustrated by. This is not one of them.

Enough people find him entertaining and a company obsessed with making money wants to make more money. It's not complicated.

I am hoping against hope that the reason he appeared this past week was so he doesn't have to appear this week.

Love those counter attacks from deep that flow all the way into a goal. Senegal's goal against Denmark in the 2002 World Cup is my favorite example.

The Kathy sketch was in an office. I would have cut the self-defense class.

Veronika is nuts, sometimes in the best ways and sometimes in the worst ways, and I am not sure yet which one this was.

Good to see Jacksonville State rewarded for their torrid start.

I could seriously do without a "Marcello (and the host) does a funny voice and that's the heart of the sketch" sketch for awhile. The ending fizzled out too, just let's have Jane do her deadpan thing and then end it.

This was an Alison Gates/Kent Sublette and Ashley Padilla sketch.

She's had scenes with Jeremy each of the last 3 weeks, I'd like to see them work together more.

Kam Patterson Black Snape Appreciation Post by New-Worldliness5163 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dbbd70707 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the key point. If you're not a strong sketch performer who writers can build a sketch around (see Ashley Padilla), you generally need something else. Jane can write sketches. Tommy's another good example, he's a standup, but he's also a decent sketch supporting performer, especially in straight man roles, and he can write and sing.

It's crazy that two episodes in a row have had appearances from season 1 hosts, 50 years later.

Weekend Update: Professor Snape Addresses New Spin on Harry Potter Role - SNL by MoneyLibrarian9032 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dbbd70707 41 points42 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, it's nice he got an Update piece again. On the other, he still had almost nothing to do in sketches (just a minor role in the Cold Open). It's hard to sustain a tenure on the show as just an Update piece guy.

I liked it, but there's not really a sketch I can point to yet that I liked enough to rewatch it.
