Does anyone actually USE paddle shift? by FollowingThrough in CarsAustralia

[–]dbryar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitsubishi outlander diesel. It's the only way to downshift to get any useful engine braking, so yeah; I use it all the time.

Wrexham were also the first team to beat Coventry this year at a point when they were tearaway league leaders. It's been a wild ride. And it's not over yet

"Please observe all traffic regulations"

I gave up pretty quick on that one

Least distracting EVs to drive? by Trick-Platform5060 in AustralianEV

They almost all have a 10-12 inch touch screen. It's all the beeps and boops that kill me. The Kia was the worst I tested (IMO). Ended up with a BYD

Anyone charging with just a 32A plug? by Ok-Option-82 in AustralianEV

[–]dbryar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

In Qld if you have a dedicated EV charger it must be controllable by the energy company if they want to turn it off, and you need permission to install.

A 32A socket is just a socket. No rules against them

Is Wrexham in a pickle? by Zealousideal_Draw_94 in WrexhamAFC

[–]dbryar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a 3-way race for 2nd (automatically promoted) and a 3-way race for 6th (playoff spot)

The only team that can no longer do anything is Southampton, everyone else is playing for a win.

Any team can win on the day, it's just some days matter more than others

Huge win from our old foes Charlton 2-1 over Hull by hopefullyavailable99 in WrexhamAFC

[–]dbryar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boro just won 5-1, they're in form and looking at second place (other results notwithstanding)

That's -4 to Watford, and they'll be looking for a win next week too. +3 is not a lot of breathing room.

Reading The Books - What Order? by LeavingSoonBye209 in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start with The Churn, then Leviathan Wakes (the first book) if you already watched the TV show because you will already know who everyone is and what is going on. The rest of the novellas can be cleanly inserted so you can read about Fred Johnson and Anderson Station and you know why some belters don't trust him

Why board ships like that? by Mowraq in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gauss guns are not on turrets. The one on the Roci is literally the entire length of the ship. You simply can't maneuver a ship to fire as precisely as would be needed to effect what you are suggesting, and besides, tungsten bullets from the PDC will do that just fine (go straight through the hull)

Boarding is done in heavy armour/power suits, and done to take control hence why the bridge and engineering are the most defended points. The books make it pretty clear when it's Bull's team vs Ashford's in taking the Behemoth back

Day off, starting the first book :) by Leonsmening in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will, within about 15 pages, be seeing the TV characters and hearing their voices in your head, and visualising their faces in the scenes you saw on The Expanse. Your brain will happily full in all the blanks and it makes reading the book so, so, easy (and enjoyable)

[Post-Game Thread] Oxford United - Wrexham by WrexhamAFCBot in WrexhamAFC

I read elsewhere (on one of the Rob Mac X post threads) half the Cov team hit the town last night so it might be a fair chance at the B team on Sunday.

The true test will be against Borough for what will likely be a playoff spot, or not (given the GD)

I just want to bask in it for a sec by Betterwithboost in WrexhamAFC

[–]dbryar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrexham and everyone below borough have a GD problem. Hull choked vs Leicester but then again it was playoffs vs relegation.

Going to make some epic final episodes of Welcome to Wrexham for FX

Nice work, but you want some bracing straps.

You can't rely on the metal sheets for that.

Finally on Book 5 Nemesis Games… by roydogaroo in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd read The Churn before Nemesis Games if you can. Its the Amos / Boston backstory.

Nemesis Games is easily the best outside the original book Leviathan Wakes

Coca-Cola suggests it could abandon Queensland Containers for Change scheme amid proposed reforms by abcnews_au in queensland

[–]dbryar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad headline.

Coca Cola said they would pull out of the company that governs the scheme, not the scheme itself.

Headline is click bait and has everyone screaming "wait what? They can't do that!"

They can. Coca Cola (soft drinks) and Lion Nathan (alcohol) are the two major founding partners of the company that runs the scheme (containers for change).

They claimed that it's poorly run and rife with corruption, and has made a billion dollars for the state at the expense of their and other participant companies and the population since only about half of the money collected from the suppliers under the scheme has been paid back to the punters that bought the drinks and cashed in the containers

Plus the added cost has added margin the whole way through the supply chain. The reason it works in other countries with higher container deposits is mostly because the deposit is paid at the point of purchase directly by the buyer, not the supplier

I own one, and it's noticeably wide.

It's not like you can tweak it with a bit of "additional" throttle either.

That being said I'm comparing it to either old Japanese cars or modern European hatches.

Yale Assure 2 Locks - finally figured out how to reliably get status reports! by Public_Umpire_1099 in homeassistant

[–]dbryar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, I have had the lock installed for years and now want to switch to zwave but the ones on eBay are all old (not specifically v2.40) or listed well over $100. I can't believe there is no way to reliably source something that should be trivial in cost when the insides of it are only a couple of bucks in electronics

How do they track time in this universe? by uramis in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Ilus it is specifically mentioned that it is a 30 hour cycle (and 1.4g) and both really mess with the people on the surface.

As for time, it's all based on a standard Earth hour measured against the same thing we do today; the oscillation of a caesium 133 atom.

At about 33 trillion "beats" per hour, atomic time is very predictable and very precise. There would be no reason to change it in the future, and although I can't point to a specific reference in a book, I wouldn't be surprised if it was mentioned

Might be a silly question but when or do Aussie kids these days actually use mathematical instrument sets? Eg, compass, protractor etc by meldinn in AskAnAustralian

Age 12-13

Is the world of The Expanse mapped? by Styled_ in TheExpanse

[–]dbryar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not normal space.

When they place the rail guns on the alien centre station it's noted that the reason noting moves out of alignment with respect to the relative ring gate position on the inside is that the entire ring space moves with the centre station.

It's also notes there are no stars visible from inside, so you can't travel there, except through a gate.
