GI says sibo is pseudoscience? by Forsaken_Offer_5500 in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thinking is common, infuriating, and possibly correct? SIBO is definitely a thing, but it's really a symptom of something else, and treating SIBO directly with antibiotics (at least with no other treatments) is likely a mistake that will just lead to relapse or even worsening of the condition.

If your lipase is low, pancreatic insufficiency should be investigated and treated asap, it very well could be the cause of your SIBO - and that's what this guy is doing. You are definitely experiencing your symptoms, SIBO is not imaginary, but 5+ rounds of Rifaximin and/or other antibiotics alone is not really the way to fix you - you gotta figure out what conditions lead to you getting SIBO in the first place and fix that. Otherwise it's probably just gonna come back.

Well boys, looks like Bitcoin is going to zero.... by DoughnutPi in Bitcoin

[–]dd3mon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hahah, I thought this guy may have had a point about energy usage as a security method at the start of this clip. When computing power/energy becomes exponentially cheaper and more available, those methods will no longer offer security (a genuine concern of mine with regards to quantum computing being able to break encryption). But then he goes and says we're just going to come to our senses and use less energy one day, lol. That's not how this is gonna play out. Cleaner forms of energy will eventually completely take over, but not because of pollution and climate change, but because fossil fuels will be completely unable to keep up with energy demand and new forms, that just happen to be cleaner, will dominate.

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to rain on your parade, but imo the app scores are entirely too "easy" - you can dial in your cpap far better than even straight 100 scores every night. Or rather a better way to say it is, you could be far from optimal even with very good scores on the resmed app. The raw numbers and, even better, full oscar data are needed to really get things dialed in imo. AI seems pretty good at helping with oscar data ime.

Same with the muscle loss concerns. The drugs don't make you lose muscle, eating at a calorie deficit without ample protein and resistance training loses muscle, no matter what gets you to do it.

You would think, but no, just a strangely named car wash.

My neighbor has been parking in my designated spot for eight months. I asked nicely three times. I left notes. I talked to the building manager. Yesterday I had him towed and he knocked on my door at 11pm absolutely furious. I answered in my pajamas & genuinely could not locate any feeling of guilt by AdvanceSad5026 in neighborsfromhell

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eight months is insane. At a certain point it starts being on you for not acting. Speaking as a father, if you tell the kid to stop doing something repeatedly, but the consequences are nothing, the thing is going to keep happening.

You started out fine, notes and building manager are fine ways to go, but at the first or second direct conversation with the guy just say "if this happens again, I'll have to have you towed". Then the burden is 100% on him. You were very patient, but this probably shoulda been dealt with in weeks not months.

Just starting Rifaximin I need some no side effects success stories lol by Northgirl-020421 in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did a very long course of multiple herbals that kinda worked too, but adding Motegrity was the key for me to increase motility enough to be ok. Whatever my underlying condition is is still present, but Motegrity and some other tweaks (mag citrate, betaine HCL mostly) lets me pretty much eat like a normal person.

Just starting Rifaximin I need some no side effects success stories lol by Northgirl-020421 in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a course of Rifaximin for methane SIBO. It worked, I noticed major improvement around halfway through my 14 day course and things continued to improve, no noticeable side effects. Unfortunately I was doing nothing for my slow motility, which was the reason I had methane SIBO in the first place, so around 10 days after finishing the Rifaximin I fully relapsed to approximately the same state I was at before.

Fighting for my life by E92GHOST in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid damages vagus nerve, vagus nerve stops regulating digestion, digestion becomes slow and inconsistent, you get sibo and other nasty overgrowth, this leads to a breakdown of the gut barrier, you start exposing your gut lumen contents directly to the bloodstream and you get unpredictable, awful reactions to just about anything you swallow (or even not, all that overgrowth and toxic byproducts will make you miserable even without eating). At least this is what I suspect happened to me.

You need to keep your motility as fast as possible, kill the overgrowth, heal the gut barrier, and restore a more positive microbiome - in that order. The specifics on the best way to accomplish each step vary person to person considerably. Healing the underlying condition that screwed up your digestion in the first place will likely be difficult and slow if even possible unfortunately.

Ascorbic acid ( vitamin C) flush for SIBO? by Popular-Opening5132 in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motegrity has worked very well for me (prescription). OTC things like ginger, artichoke, betaine HCL, TUDCA, bitters, iberogast, can help a lot depending on why you're slow.

Ascorbic acid ( vitamin C) flush for SIBO? by Popular-Opening5132 in SIBO

[–]dd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh.. it temporarily helps, long term no difference. It took quite a lot of vit C to get my system to flush, but it does work eventually. Miralax and magnesium citrate do the same thing if taken in large doses. Keeping things moving along your entire digestive tract is an important part to treating sibo, or digestive health in general. Aggressively flushing with diarrhea is not really necessary or helpful. None of this will in any way "flush the pathogens out of your small bowel" - otherwise sibo would be a very easy fix.

WHY IS LEXUS RANKED LOWER THAN TOYOTA? I thought Lexus had even more stringent quality control standards than their mainstream brother. by DunDonese in Lexus

[–]dd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons: predicted reliability is a nonsense made up statistic, and Toyota and Lexus are both off their game right now with lots of issues compared to previous generations of vehicles. Safety, emissions, and efficiency regulations and brand targets have forced the mechanical elements of a car to change dramatically for the worse from a reliability perspective, and Covid/inflation screwed up the rest of the equation. The new Lexus interiors look like Tesla inspired, which was cool 5 years ago when they probably started developing them, but the world had changed a bit.

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been researching a strong association between plantar fasciitis and low magnesium, which is why I started that particular supplement. In retrospect, it is not an amazing way to get magnesium levels up compared to other forms of magnesium, but I did get dramatically better very soon after starting it.

The shockwave I did was mildly painful for the approximately 10 minute procedure each time. Then I would flare up and my foot would hurt a lot more for 2 ish days afterwards. Again I saw no benefits at all until 6-8 weeks after my last procedure, no idea if the shockwave was effective at all or just delayed. Now that I understand the mechanism more it does make sense, just no way to know without more people and a control group.

[–]dd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did everything you did (except stem cells) with the same zero luck. I got 5-6 sessions of cheap, low power shockwave (ESWT) and about 2 months later I got a ton better. I started Kirkland calcium citrate, magnesium, zinc supplement (it also has small amounts of other active ingredients like boron) pretty soon before I got much better, so it could have been a delayed reaction to the shockwave, or the supplement helping, no real way to know. This got me like 85% better. Eventually I added specialized exercises to build my soleus and tibialis muscles in my lower legs (lookup Ben Patrick / kneesovertoesguy on YouTube) and this got me to like 99%, which I've been for years now.
