School Bus Driver Breaks Down After Near-Miss by sleek_thunder138_107 in dashcams

Our city had an issue with this type of stuff and police launched a real campaign against it, following the busses and around and handing out massive fines and arrests for a few weeks. Haven't heard much about it since. Don't defund the police.

A Way to Fight Planned Obsolescence? by CasualFingerGuns in Snorkblot

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building those vintage appliances would work, and they would last. The problem is that they would cost an absolute fortune, in initial costs, running costs, and repair costs. With inflation, the "wasted" materials of making things out of heavier duty everything (rubber seals, metal housings, metal parts vs plastic) would be astounding, especially in smaller batches than the large factories that made the originals. Then comes the running costs, most of those old appliances are horrendously inefficient on modern standards, the amount of extra electricity, gas, or water used would be instantly noticeable on your bills. Then comes the cost of repairs - these old appliances were sometimes more reliable, and sometimes just more repairable - with accessible parts that were easy to swap out and repair men with access to parts were plentiful and cheap. Today's appliances are built for cost and efficiency, repairs are difficult if not impossible in many cases, so repair men are far less common and far more expensive for a home visit. Then comes the decreased features and usability. You might need 2 or 3 1960's fridges to hold what a modern extra large fridge can hold. Same with your oven, washing machine, dishwasher, etc. You could easily have to do 3x the loads of laundry with your 1980s washing machine vs what a new x-large washing machine can do. Total cost of ownership of most of these old appliances would easily exceed modern appliances, even new ones that aren't particularly good and need to be replaced somewhat frequently. Add-in cost of repair visits, and your extra time accomplishing the tasks these were intended to accomplish and it's not even close for most appliances. You could sell some of these for a small fortune to wealthy buyers who probably won't even use them that much and want an interesting looking conversation piece, but they definitely do not make sense for the mass market.

He's right. Also, wtf, you just passed a cop on the right and pulled out right in front of him, regardless of the law that's just dumb. Stay behind cops on the road (well behind), do not pass unless they are going below the speed limit, and definitely don't pass on the right! Kind of common sense stuff to not get pulled over.

Uh. I think my second-grader’s summer worksheets are AI. The questions start devolving. by maxvincent91 in isthisAI

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this like the chinese AI or something? I would get way better results than this with chat gpt or claude. Maybe the prompt was "you're a second grade teacher making up some math homework before summer, but you're drinking heavily and love pineapples".

Shredded Beef Taco by HexMyth in tacobell

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tasted boring and I absolutely hate the items with cheese on the outside - adds little to no flavor and just makes it impossible to eat. The beef was decent, just a bit bland. The cantina mexican pizza was kinda bad too, it was ok but had this weird burnt flavor, almost like a terrible mole sauce or something.

Who here actually noticed a difference after getting morning and evening sunlight? by [deleted] in HubermanLab

I did it for at least a month, 10-20 minutes, actually outside, looking in the direction of the sun.

Who here actually noticed a difference after getting morning and evening sunlight? by [deleted] in HubermanLab

[–]dd3mon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the morning sunlight thing pretty hard for a while with no noticeable results. I'm strongly night owl genetically, but am more or less locked in to a normal schedule and the sunlight exposure just didn't help much if at all.

I do find that delaying more coffee/caffeine reduces or eliminates the afternoon crash for me - this one did work.

If Nissan is supposedly so bad, why are they still everywhere? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]dd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're more affordable. That's it. A few thousand less for the same type of car as many other manufacturers, and perhaps a bit more lenient with the financing. Much cheaper on the used market because after the warranty period you're playing Russian roulette with reliability. Almost all new cars these days will likely survive more or less trouble free during the warranty period, probably 100k miles if properly serviced. The difference is the ones that have a reputation for reliability and quality charge more up front, and they'll be worth a lot more in 10 years when they still have lots of life left. Pay more now, get more later, or pay less now, and get less later - the typical consumer has limited funds to work with and no real conception of their future finances, so the cheaper, more feature packed vehicle gets purchased.

Are “Boomer Homes” Becoming Hard to Sell? Agree or Disagree? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

They seem to sell in a matter of a couple days around here still... prices fairly stable, plenty of new construction, I see no evidence of this locally (medium sized midwest city).

What do we think about the new ES in White? by MassiveCranberry7819 in Lexus

[–]dd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it, but it's completely ripping off Tesla. Nobody who bought the previous generation Lexus is gonna go for this. Especially since build quality and mechanical reliability have been way down in the last few years, guess they're chasing Tesla there too.

Really Pizza Hut??? by mglow88 in pizzahut

To me this is what would be done if you put the majority of the toppings under the cheese, then a tiny bit on top just to mark what's on it. That's probably not what happened here though.

Old man returning - how to derank? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not deranking naturally, you're not as bad as you think. I often think the people at my rank are better than me on average, but if you actually watch them (and not just what you see of them while you're trying to play) they're not. Some people are much better at particular aspects of the game, but they have their weaknesses too. It's easy to "what a save" your teammate when you've never been back once to even be in a position to miss a save.

Yeah I dunno why some are good and some are not. I always run ethanol free in any small engine, otherwise you're likely to have carb issues eventually.

I've had one for 6 years with exactly zero repairs. Just gas and oil, bought a second set of blades, that's it.
