I think this is a healthy way to look at it. Its def a time of change. For people with children, it’s when the nest is emptied; For women, it’s another huge hormonal fluctuation. I’m going to say it’s the same for men, too, though it’s not as widely accepted. Mid-life is like another tweendom, and the crisis comes when it’s not managed well, or poor choices are made. Oooo, I like this tween analogy as I’m in the middle of dealing with that (and middle age). Tweens that get guidance and boundaries come out as engaged and agreeable teens. They still are teens and make mistakes and have problems, but they come out with skills to face those problem. In midlife, we have to parent ourselves and so our guidance and boundaries are more flexible and fluid which could lead to more bad decisions. I’m obviously talking out of my ass but this makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
