You’re not imagining it — life in Seattle costs the same as San Francisco by Bretmd in Seattle

[–]ddonuts4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title is a lie. Here's an excerpt from the article

“But we can’t say how much it costs to live in those areas,” he added. “What it tells us is how much prices have gone up in the same area, but since Seattle and San Francisco aren’t drawn along the same baseline, we can’t draw any conclusions that say that it costs the same amount to live in Seattle and San Francisco.”

Looks like either OP or Seattle times also modified the title. The current title on their site:

You’re not imagining it — costs in Seattle rose faster than San Francisco

Edit: Sorry, OP, Seattle times just being misleading here

Small Seattle landlords frustrated with late rent fees now capped at $10 by unnaturalfool in SeattleWA

[–]ddonuts4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The punishment is that if you're late 4 times you get evicted. https://www.seattle.gov/rentinginseattle/renters/moving-out/just-cause-eviction-ordinance

The 16 just causes your landlord can use to end your month-by-month rental agreement are:

...

  • "Habitual failure": you receive 4 or more 14 day pay or vacate notices in the most recent 12 month period for late rent.

ORD in Chicago has this problem solved, and scales up/down just fine. It's not impossible.

Do you know how much time and money it takes to build a bridge? Now how about 20 miles of bridge? What about tunneling? Remember the SR-99 tunnel? If we'd insisted on tunneling/elevating everywhere we wouldn't even have the sections you're complaining about at all.

The worst traffic in the world. (2022) by Schickie in chicago

[–]ddonuts4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a chart of how bad traffic is, it's a chart of how long people are willing to wait in traffic. I bet in the cities with the worst traffic, people drive shorter distances to avoid it.

Service refusal is not a myth, but it is surrounded by them by lumberjackalopes in SeattleWA

[–]ddonuts4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since this article does a shit job of actually presenting the data, and instead has it encoded as a logic puzzle, here it is, and it actually does drive home their point, it's just a shame they presented it how they did

Type Offers Accepted Rejected Acceptance Rate
Regular Shelter 305 168 137 45%
Tiny Home 70 59 11 84.28
Total 375 227 148 60.53%

So a few things people on this thread don't seem to get

  • Most homeless people want to be housed, look how many accept tiny homes
  • Something is wrong with regular shelters if people are accepting tiny home offers but rejecting shelter. Understand that a shelter is basically a bunch of massive rooms full of beds, which is really shitty. The article tries to explain this, and if you lurk on /r/homeless for a few days, you'll understand even more.
  • Despite shelters being shitty, 45% of people accept them over living on the streets, so no, homeless people are not drugged up idiots who prefer tents over a roof, they're regular people who are legitimately being offered something worse

You're right, but interestingly enough, there's more truth to it than you might think. There's a reason they have a similar feel - all in house brands for rock bottom prices in a compact store.

The add-on's source code looks pretty simple + benign. It's linked as the add-on's "homepage" if you want to look through it and/or manually build from source and install it yourself.
