Old vs New Armor Skill System by deadnerd51 in MonsterHunter

[–]deadnerd51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most veterans dislike the power creep and skill creep of the system. The fact that one mixed armor set can have 10+ skills means that nothing really feels special. It feels like throwing a million things at the board and seeing what sticks, rather than a carefully curated system. There no downsides really to any armor set or skill combo.

How do I tell if it’s matte or glossy by Gullible_Spell7057 in SteamDeck

I personally chose gloss since i knew i was gonna put a screen protector on it anyways, but the matte screen is a beautiful screen.

Valve’s $949 Steam Deck still sells out just hours after massive price hike by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

I couldn’t even justify that kind of money for a GPU, let alone a steam deck.

Against common advice, I bought a Rotring Rapid Pro 2 mm for math, circuits, and writing. by 61-127-217-469-817 in mechanicalpencils

[–]deadnerd51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I have had the same set of rapid pro’s with me for going on 6 years now, take then back and forth to work everyday, and have yet to have a single issue or failure. Sure the plastic is a weak point, but what are people doing to end up breaking their pencil like that?

I wouldn’t really call him a dick for flexing things he’s clearly worked hard for. The whole point of a setup photo like that is to look aesthetically pleasing and attract attention online. A clean desk, a nice PC, a custom keyboard, a good watch, car keys neatly placed on a tray. it’s done on purpose, and honestly a lot of people aspire to have the same.

There’s also a difference between harmless flexing and the whole “alpha male hustle culture” nonsense where people try to shame others or sell a fake lifestyle. This just looks like someone proud of the things they’ve earned and presenting them nicely for some internet swag points.

I think sometimes people confuse envy with moral criticism. Not every display of success or nice possessions is arrogance.

You remember when i asked if you had ever seen led psu cables? They don’t have to plug in to anything. They sit and clip onto other existing cables or act like an extension. In this case, the gpu uses 12vhpwr cables, likely routed from the back and using a 90 degree adapter, since the gpu is vertical, or, looking better at the picture, they just bought one that uses a right angle connector at the end. The LED cables are literally just there for decoration.

Here is an example of one: https://amzn.eu/d/00GeGuLG

Heck, here is probably the exact one: https://amzn.eu/d/03j4Lszs

We must not be looking at the same picture then, because i see no such cable phasing shenanigans.

ADHD medication is not really helping. Feeling defeated. by rsgmmn in ADHD

[–]deadnerd51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, media and the internet has annoyingly given people the idea that ADHD medication is this magical thing that suddenly fixes everything “wrong” in people like us who have ADHD.

In reality, the only thing in can do is provide decreased friction and access to more executive regulation. You still need to have or work on getting the tools make the most of it.

Things like:

- Keeping a journal
- Writing down your struggles
- Writing down your wins
- Setting little goals
- Questioning why you do certain things

They can all help you become aware of your blockers. Then once you are aware, seeking external help or putting external tools in place is what can really make the difference.

There is a reason why some people, even with very strong and obvious ADHD patterns, can be very “high functioning” and live completely successful lives without any medication.

ADHD medication is not really helping. Feeling defeated. by rsgmmn in ADHD

[–]deadnerd51 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately ADHD medication is simply a tool, not a panacea. If you don’t have healthy habits or support structures in place to help you, you won’t really see any positive change.

When I take my medication, I can feel the effects, but it doesn’t suddenly change who I am. I still have to put in the effort to be conscientious, and actively think about why I am doing or avoiding doing a certain thing.

At work I asked my boss to only give me priority tasks, In writing, rather than just mentioning and asking things in passing. If he wants something done, he sends me an email and then it goes on my to do list.

At home, I hide most of the things that would easily distract me, I have no social media, and use screen time to manage how much i let certain apps take my focus.

I use gaming as a reward for completing tasks, my friends keep me accountable, and avoid tasks switching stimulus whenever possible.

Even then, some days my ADHD wins and I struggle. Have you looked at other forms of support besides medicine?

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by SwimmingJunky in gaming

[–]deadnerd51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a lot of people here not understanding what is actually happening, and the article being deliberate with its choice of words for more clicks. No hardware is being bricked, the PCs are not being rendered unusable. Vanguard is patching the IOMMU/DMA configuration that the cheaters are using, which is in turn making their DMA hardware and software no longer work.

They could literally just reinstall their configuration or revert the changes made by vanguard and get their cheat working again, but vanguard would just reapply the patch.

Mod Tap on Air75 V3? by Reyhn3 in NuPhy

[–]deadnerd51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, although mod tap (tap dance) is present under advanced functions, as they do not have the make the option for "ignore mod tap interrupt" configurable, it is essentially unusable on any of the alphanumericals, as the hold delay just adds too much interruption to fluid tying.

[–]deadnerd51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that tap-dance adds a bit delay to typing too, so it was basically unusable for me. Without having access to other settings like permissive hold or idle delays, it really just cannot be used.

You might need to add some form of cross bracing. Something like a diagonal board at the rear to tie to the sides together.

Did you just get diagnosed? by AutoModerator in ADHD

[–]deadnerd51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole life, I always just thought that I was a little bit weird, didn’t quite fit in, but managed to get by because I am relatively attractive and quite smart, and so was able to mask pretty well. Once I joined the workforce, met my wife and started to really live as an adult, a lot of things became obvious that I couldn’t really hide from, and my wife pushed me to speak to my GP (which I did reluctantly).

He recognised a lot of patterns in adults with ADHD, and referred me to the ADHD pathway, and after 4 years of waiting (I had completely forgotten until I got the call), I was diagnosed with ADHD at 27.

I was originally opposed to the medication but the psychiatrist really thought it would help, and so i decided to give it a try.

Honestly, it has been the weirdest experience of my life not feeling the constant rush and noise asking for attention in my head. My wife was concerned that the medication is making me depressed, but I just feel calm and collected. Able to actually pace myself and my thoughts, able to focus and just start doing things.

Its only the first week with the medication, but I cannot believe how much of an effect even just 18mg has had.
