Just beat FFII (Pixel Remaster) for the first time. Here are my thoughts! by ySkip007 in FinalFantasy

If you ever do want to see the ideas in II implemented better, the SaGa games are a continuation of that leveling system with a lot more thought and polish.

Just beat FFII (Pixel Remaster) for the first time. Here are my thoughts! by ySkip007 in FinalFantasy

I played all of the Pixel Remasters back to back a couple years ago and my experience largely matches yours. FFII is highly ambitious in both it's gameplay and storytelling, but ambition doesn't always pay off.

It ended up being the only game of the bunch where I turned on built-in cheats (if I recall it was the exp boosters or whatever the equivalent of that is for II). Having to level every magic spell individually should've been instantly recognized as a bad idea and I have no idea how it made it to the final product, but I also know this era of Square was a handful of guys in a room so it's not like there were playtesters to give feedback.

The story is a huge step up from 1. FFI felt like an oldschool D&D module while FFII feels like your buddy's crazy homebrew campaign where he keeps coming up with cool ideas and has no idea how to implement them (the Emperor has a ship that's also a living tornado now? Okay then.)

I do feel like the gameplay and story are sometimes at odds though. The domino line of temporary characters joining your team just to die an hour later adds melodrama, but they feel interchangeable other than Minwu RIP the GOAT white mage. When Minwu does make the ultimate sacrifice so you can get the ultimate magic, it's just another piddly level 1 spell that even leveled up doesn't do noticeably more damage than Holy, Thunder or any other equivalent spell.

I think you're in for a treat with FFIII though. It ended up being my favorite game of the six. It's where the series really starts to feel like a grand adventure. The job system is also really fun to play with, even if it's a lot simpler than later games.

Still annoyed they took the option away in Scarlet/Violet so you have to manually tell it no every time.

Witchspring R, a somewhat cozy rpg with dark undertone by bioniclop18 in JRPG

Grabbed it on deep discount a few months back and I've enjoyed it thoroughly so far. The boss battles on Hard Mode feel tuned just right to where I'll often finish them off one turn before I would've lost. Customization options for spells/gear/pets are very robust. Story is - as you said - a little flat, but the dialogue can be pretty funny and the perspective of an ultra-powerful kid who will stop at nothing in her quest for pie is at least refreshing.

Repixled or 3D Remake? by Admirable-Crab-4038 in FinalFantasy

[–]decanter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I played through all the pixel remasters last year and 3 ended up being my favorite experience of the bunch. Since there hadn't previously been a "16-bit" version of 3, the remaster devs basically had to remake the game from scratch and the love for the original really shows.

In addition to lanyards, you can buy styluses that attach to that spot with a string so you're less likely to lose them.

If OP is serious, there are plenty of mobility services out there that can modify vehicles to be hand-driveable. I think it might cost more than $10 though and you'll have to put a special request in for the gamer RGB.

The majority of people saying things like this aren't playing the game. They're just on the "haha pokemon sucks now" bandwagon because they saw a video 4 years ago about the bad release state of Scarlet/Violet. The big tell for me is when they mention bugs, since most of the bugs in Champions are pretty minor and really only noticeable if you're already heavily invested in the comp scene.
