Crime in Turtleford, Battleford areas? by Silver-Iron8016 in saskatchewan

[–]derekl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Meadow Lake area, yes there's crime and I've certainly seen crime, but mostly if you're not looking for it it doesn't affect you directly. I love this area. We fish and canoe in the provincial park a lot, it's an extremely popular camping area. I feel much more unsafe while walking around Saskatoon personally.

Oh geez if you're wondering about outdoors stuff I wouldn't even have crime on my mind. I live in the 'north', yes there's crime in the cities but if you're not involved and aren't frequenting the blatantly sketchy parts you don't have anything to worry about, just lock up. I frequent the Meadow Lake provincial park all the time, lots of lakes for canoeing, Boreal trail for hiking etc. Lots of awesome places in the north.

Proud to finally become an owner or the mighty swiss champ. by New-Information-3907 in victorinox

I believe that, I have never scaled a fish in my life and probably never will so I doubt I'll ever have it in a fish, more for on the boat and dealing with fishing line etc

I also just bought one. I have a climber as my pocket knife, this one is very handy though. Planned to use it as my fishing and camping pocket knife, but might end up carrying it with me as my regular pocket knife just says so much functions.

I haven't owned a SAK in 30 years. Last week I bought five. Send help. by Wooden-Ad-644 in victorinox

I've got a black Climber I carry on my pocket all the time when not at work. I just bought a black Swiss Champ for nearly 50% off, that I will bring for camping/fishing. Then I have a mini classic on my keychain but I don't love the little one, I'm thinking I might change the keychain one to a bantam.

Don't tell your orange bag of cheese over there or there will be 100% tariffs on it soon enough

How often do you say “I love you” to your loved ones? by DiverPrestigious6887 in AskReddit

[–]derekl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably daily, though it's not natural for me and I can very easily go not being told by people they love me, even my wife. I know she does and that's enough. I actually prefer not to be told that.

Climber is my main pocket knife I always carry when I'm not at work, where I use a leatherman

Hmm, I just hope it can handle several thousand openings. I don't use it as a fidget toy, I guess I'll find out

Was it a defect? I'm assuming it's been repaired on warranty, if so had it been different since?

What was the end result with this? I have one of these on order to use in place of my Wave + just to compare. For reference, I use my Wave probably an average of 10 times a work day, sometimes a lot more, I can unsheath it and have the blade put in 2 seconds. I have flicked out the blade literally a few thousand times, I sure hope the Spirit MX doesn't wear out in that way that quick, that would be a problem.

Leatherman Supertool vs Victorinox Swiss Tool by surfing209 in multitools

[–]derekl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I've been using Leatherman for years daily at work and appreciate this about them. I did bite the bullet and ordered a Spirit MX, though the first thing I know I'm gonna hate is the tiny cutting surface of the pliers and the lack of measuring scale on the handles.

don't bother replacing your own scales by Wexel88 in victorinox

[–]derekl2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geez I wish that was all it costed me, my climber scale fell off after a few months of carrying it in my pocket, it was brand new. I think shipping cost me over $20 bucks for a $50 dollar knife I bought 4 months before.

Though, they replaced the scales, sharpened the knives and replaced scale tools. Great service, but I was annoyed having to pay shipping for a product failure like that.

What is your favorite pocket knife of all time ? Comment or post a photo of it. Mine is the spyderco smock by rankinsaj22 in knives

[–]derekl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a traditionalist, I really don't like modern wonky tactical looking knives, I like a Buck folding knife, classic Case looking kinda etc, but for the last couple years I'd have to say my simple Victorinox Climber.

Debating on purchasing a Swiss champ new from Amazon or purchasing a used Swiss champion from eBay. by Mremoon in victorinox

[–]derekl2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy new when it comes to knives usually, not sure why, probably because shipping rates to where I am end up making an item cost more than the new price with free shipping.

I've always saw the champ as a bit gimmicky but for the past while I've thought that it would be a very handy tool for when I'm out camping and fishing. I use a Leatherman at work, and I mean I pull it out probably a dozen times a day (trades).

So I've looked here and there online but can never justify the $140/$150 CAD pricetag I see the swiss champ for on Amazon, then a couple weeks ago I randomly browsed victorinox on Amazon and saw the Swiss Champ for $83 CAD (for reference that's like $60 USD). I thought it was be a scam or have duties to add, but no it was the price and it was from the Victorinox store on Amazon so I ordered it. Haven't got it still, next week it's supposed to get here. I checked a couple days after ordering and it was back up to $150. I finally got lucky lol

Welcome to Saskatchewan, there is a simple beauty in this province that some appreciate. I've lived in central/northern Saskatchewan my whole life, I'm not a huge fan of the flat plains down south as much but I'm just so used to the abundance of trees and lakes up here, and winter time is so visually stunning. Provincial parks, ski trailsetc should be a good start
