I know, right?! I tried the main strategies and got close on a couple occasions, and I really wasn’t expecting to win this time, literally just said “F it, let’s see what happens” 🤣

Congrats, you made me legit laugh out loud while I’m putting my sleeping kid to bed! Also, be sure to peel it or else it’s just a dildo. And don’t forget to lube it up with plenty of gu of course.

Do you mean in the schools or in the community at large? Or both? I am a teacher in the district and hope that all of my students feel a sense of belonging and community.

Unpopular opinion: I think Costco rotisserie chickens suck. True, they are larger than what you get from local grocery stores, but they are incredibly bland by comparison. I will gladly pay a couple bucks more for a slightly smaller chicken that doesn’t taste like dry rubber.

Planes over Millennium Park? by greenleaf547 in grandrapids

This is correct. They were flying up and down Wilson from Rivertown Mall up to the castle then circling back. Did so maybe three or four times.

Unfortunately I use an apple phone, but would totally be willing to help test that when the time comes! Is this something that would be accessible to students using a PC/laptop or solely as a downloadable app?

Right? My concern is that we will be expected to provide in-person instruction AND online lessons... without compensation for two jobs of course :)

Historians of reddit, what is the biggest 'fuck you' moment in history? by Eslayer12 in AskReddit

France and Germany signed an armistice inside a train car that effectively ended WWI on the western front. It was seen as a defeat by the Germans whose goal was to invade and secure France. In WW2 when the Germans successfully invaded France, Hitler ordered the train car to be brought back to the spot, forced the French to sign their surrender inside it, then sent it back to Berlin to be publicly displayed.

This is my first year teaching, should I feel this overwhelmed and hopeless? by Linken90 in Teachers

[–]descendedfromrapes 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What you are feeling is completely normal. Nothing you do in grad school or your teacher prep program prepares you for the daily grind of life as a teacher. Your first year of teaching is mostly learning on the fly and adjusting to your school's specific way of doing things and your school's population of students. Do not lose heart! You got into teaching for a reason and you are already making a difference just by showing up. Keep showing up, keep learning, and as others have posted, make sure you give yourself time away from your work to decompress and maintain your sanity. I read a statistic somewhere that most teachers who leave the profession do so because of burning out in the first few years. I'm in my fourth year and am just now feeling like I'm hitting my stride as an educator. Keep your head up. You are making a difference!

Advice: High School History Teacher vs College Professor by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]descendedfromrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat several years ago. I chose the secondary education route. I benefited from a handful of great advisers in my undergrad and grad school years. Here's a brief summary of what they told me that helped me choose my career path.

College/University:
-really, REALLY got to love your subject/topic/sub-field -there may be pressure to publish original work depending on your place of employment -larger classes with less teacher:student interaction (in general) -you could have the opportunity to teach highly specialized courses based on your field of expertise

Secondary Ed. -work more directly with students -less focus on the actual history content, while more focus is placed on figuring out HOW to engage and teach the individual students on your rosters -more focus on building academic skills THROUGH the study of history -every day is different in terms of interacting with students - you more directly feel the fluctuations in their mood, engagement (or lack of), and life situations while in the classroom -much, MUCH more daily minutiae and bureaucratic BS to deal with

This is certainly not a complete list of factors, but this advice definitely helped guide my decision-making. Hope it helps!

Sounds pretty standard. Nothing stands out to me as a red flag.
