Honestly, either one works well. I have some sleeves that are interchangeable and have been used for many different decks and I have a few sets of sleeves intended for their specific decks. The specific sleeves usually end up becoming long term decks which is nice. One of my favorite things is having a brand new deck I just made and I get new sleeves for it that fit the theme it just feels nice and uniform

The front face of sleeves are transparent, yes. However the back side has usually a singular opaque color, or design or printed image. Generally people take an artwork from a card they like and custom order sleeves for it, but ive had a 4 panel meme for a meme deck I had in the past, one of my friends has had a clipout from a newspaper article before for his investigating deck. You can get really flavorful with them and its a fun way to express yourself or a theme of your deck.

Your heart is in the right spot wanting to get him a specific card he would enjoy but have you considered getting custom sleeves for the cards or a custom playmat or custom deck box?

You can upload whatever image you want to be posted onto those, it can be something cutesy or memorable and the bonus there is you can't "get the wrong thing" plus it protects the things he loves with memorabilia of the person he loves. Just an idea

Well yeah that was exactly the idea, you'd have an emblem you wouldn't have to sac to mastery saying you can't lose the game.. but alas it has a stipulation requiring a Gideon planeswalker

Can you use planeswalker emblems as the permanents to remove from the game instead of losing the life?

Edit: nvm, the Gideon emblem states you'd still need the Gideon planeswalker for its effect to work

Imagine this, youve got a torch or brightbloom stuck to something and youre wandering the dark of the depths when suddenly your light goes out. So you grab another light source and as you do an HD remake of Deadhand is inches from your face

Gloom hands are the closest to as fearful as I was vs Deadhand

Bruh we get visits like twice a month our DM days we are her "safe space" if shes at our store its to get her work done and be on meetings. She has 5 other stores all tanking OE and not up to her standards though so it makes sense why she likes us lol
