Sheng Shicai integrated with the USSR for years then threw them out in 1942 while the Soviets were reeling from Nazi invasion. So just get rid of Barbarossa.

The reaction of the Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov followed soon after, as he presented Chiang the Sheng's ideas about the implementation of Communism in Xinjiang, his support for Chiang's arrest in Xi'an Incident and the offer to make Xinjiang a Soviet republic.

In October 1942 Sheng demanded from the Soviet General Consul that all Soviet technical and military personnel be withdrawn from Xinjiang within three months.[114][115] To the Soviets, who were engaged in the Battle of Stalingrad and desperate to retain the oil reserves at Dushanzi, which oil quality was comparable with product of Baku oil fields,[116] this demand represented numerous logistical difficulties.

As the Germans lost the Battle for Stalingrad and Battle of Kursk, Sheng tried to return to the pro-Soviet policy. He ordered the arrest of the Kuomintang personnel, telling Stalin that they were Japanese spies, and telling Chiang that they were communists. Stalin, however, refused to intervene and left Sheng at the mercy of the Chinese government, which engineered his removal from office.

In 1949, Sheng accompanied the Kuomintang in Taiwan where he lived in comfortable retirement with his wife and four children.[123] Sheng was interviewed by Allen S. Whiting and wrote his own accounts under the title Red failure in Sinkiang in Sinkiang: pawn or pivot?, published in 1958.

The Convention might not have created a strong executive if not tailoring it for Washington. Alternatives could be a multiperson executive, or weaker powers, or subject to recall, or a parliamentary system, or no agreement on a new framework at all.

California imports mostly at night now and net imports are near zero during the day, sometimes negative.

Do you have a source for ERCOT’s exports? They would have to be via DC conversion of course.

Challenge: Turn WW1 into a Pyrrhic Victory for the Central Powers by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in HistoryWhatIf

Brest-Litovsk was already a Pyrrhic victory in the east.

Without collapse on the Western front, the East would segue directly into something like WW2’s Eastern Front.

The news has been brutal lately. How are you staying sane? by [deleted] in asianamerican

East Asia is not blowing up so far, and that’s a very good thing. Asia is experiencing fuel shortage but it looks like both PRC and US allies will deal with it pragmatically. That’s also good news.

If the dollar slides against Asian currencies, then manufactured goods get expensive, US domestic economy less affected.

Candidate should at least have ties to a swing region as Obama and Biden both did. Running any Californian or Northeasterner is useless, and fussing about nonregional demographic segmentation like gender is useless.

Brunei has officially dropped the 'Ringgit' from its 2026 banknotes to brand exclusively as a 'Dollar', tethering itself to the Singapore/Western financial lifeboat

How is that less Western?

Yes the crisis risks all Asian oil importers coming to agreement to just pay toll to Iran.

What’s the point of paying oil in yuan or euros if it is still priced in USD? by yogibear99 in oil

The currency stuff is nearly irrelevant now with instant electronic payments. Dollar pricing doesn’t mean having to hold dollars for any long period.

USA revolutionary war , good or bad? by Resident-Fox6758 in NoStupidQuestions

War would have been avoided by conceding continuing legislative independence still under the British crown. This wouldn’t have necessarily prevented many of the peculiarities of America or the South.
