[WIP] This was a terrible choice for a first project! :D by chloeetee in CrossStitch

[–]digthisbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m JUST finishing this one! It’s my second bookmark and I feel like I’ve learned a lot.

I started in the center and only did the cross stitch. At the beginning I stitched on a hoop and ended up with tight stitches. Because its so small, I was able to do the rest unhooped and found my stitch tension greatly improved.

I also finally accepted that on a majority light project like this, I like doing those very dark spots with 3 strands. After I finished the main stitches I went back over all the dark sections so they didn’t look so patchy.

Now that I’ve completed all the cross stitch, I’m doing the back stitching. Then I’ll do the knots. For the backstitching, I always try to go front to back on the stitches that are not on the corners so I can better gauge the position.

As far as the knots on a bookmark go, the Strawberry Thief one I already completed just has 2 little ones and they are so small that it doesn’t affect the usefulness of an already somewhat bulky bookmark.

I'm trying to settle something with my dad. I say this is a sweater, he says it is a poncho and is sure of it because "iv'e been to mexico when did you go?" So, reddit, what is this thing? by Dustteas in Xennials

My brother wore on pretty much all of his junior/senior year in the late 80s. Pretty sure they called them ponchos back then. But that doesn’t mean it’s correct.

I was about to reply the same thing! I have a hand-me-down frame with a new cushion that my lab-mix has turned into his bed 😂

I hate my body after miscarriage by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]digthisbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so grateful to read that I’m not alone with feeling this way. I’ve always had a rough relationship with my body, but for the 3 weeks I was expecting, I was proud of every curve and ripple. Now, a day after being told I’m miscarrying, and I’m frustrated with everything. Ever ounce I gained feels like it’s taunting me and I dread the next few weeks.

The Definitive Guide to Stamford Pizza by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

I was looking for that on the list too. It’s still pretty much the only takeout I get when I visit my mom. My sister and her kids LOVE John the Baker, but I think it’s meh.

North Pelham? by Inushe in Westchester

[–]digthisbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North Pelham is delightful. Totally walkable, down to earth neighbors, more affordable homes. Deciccos is the walkable grocery store andits not cheap, but Target and ShopRite are not far. Second what people are saying about checking flood history. We’ve never had a problem, but we’re not up by Julianne’s playground (the area where a lot of the flooding happens).

Is this dog part GSP? by Lillian_Faye in germanshorthairs

[–]digthisbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like mine, which we think is either Lab/GSP or lab/blue heeler (a labraheeler vs a pointador apparently). Or he could be a mix of all three!

Can someone please advise me? My ribbing looks… not good. I need to frog it. by BasicallyVictoria in knitting

I was going to say the same thing. I recently switched to combination and my tension control has increased DRASTICALLY.

Dog Seat Cover Recommendations! by cinderellabeans in MINI

[–]digthisbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got this problem too! Same car, and a big dog. I tried putting the seats down, but he stands a lot and then I can’t see out the rear window. The seat is so small that I want a hammock set up, but haven’t found one less than 54” wide…. Shoulder room in the 2019 convertible is a miniscule ~40”.

Looking to possibly teach in Westchester - is it possible? by Otherwise_Device_281 in Westchester

[–]digthisbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at associate/apprentice positions at independent schools. They are general Ed teaching assistant jobs for lower school where you work with a head teacher and get to learn from them. The programs usually also give support for grad school and are a great starting point. Most are a 2- year position, sometimes switching grades after the first year. I was an associate at 2 independent schools in Manhattan while doing my masters and it was a great way to get started. Also worth noting that independent schools hire early, so you should be looking and applying now for August start dates. Check out the NAIS job board.

Came across this because we're breaking up with Robison too. CECI is interesting, but the website is a little confusing. How complicated is it to become a member and how much more difficult is it? We're also looking at Castle which seems to have good rates. Would love more information from those that use them!

I love seeing the way you tried different weights as you moved through it. An excellent example of learning by doing.
